Petry is a much better shot than Hakanpaa, but I feel you. I also believe Hughes has already stated he won't retain on Petry's contract, though. If I did my math right, that deal should leave you guys with 12.5-13M in cap space this off-season... which will be just enough to sign Robo and Otter according to projections I've seen? 7-8M for Robo and as much as 4-5M for Otter?
If we took Hanley instead of Hakanpaa, maybe we retain on Dvorak instead, just to save some face for Hughes, but I would expect a little something coming our way in terms of picks in that case, a 3rd for a 4th/5th or something perhaps.

JVR fixes the pp plus huge moves
JVR goes to Seattle, then they trade him(with some salary retained, and other pieces they drafted likely) to the Leafs for Rielly, who will be more likely re-sign close to his birthplace? He was rocking that YVR shirt during post-season interviews, boy can't wait to leave.

I like Athanasiou, I feel like others do not so much... maybe LA does value him though? My thought here is that LA is thin on top6 talent, so Jo might be as tempting for them as anyone.
I believe Drouin will play in Montreal next season though, to be honest.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Buddy, Pesce is probably the most underrated defenseman in the league. He's borderline top 20 among D men. He's the best DFD in the league from all underlying metrics and has elite base stats. He's not an offensive dynamo, but he's still amazing as a D man.
It's clear you don't watch the Canes super close, but it's FAR more likely Skjei gets taken over Pesce. As I said, they rejected a Pesce + Necas trade for Laine because Pesce is untouchable, not Necas.</div></div>
At no point did I say Pesce is someone they want to trade, or even should trade, this is just what I did here. Get over it, buddy, it isn't real.

They say Canes need to get rid of "tweener contracts" and Gardiner isn't the first one gone is a pretty big tell that they don't pay attention to Carolina</div></div>
Only trolls here are the ones who assume any ACGM that doesn't match their idea are trolling.
No one would want Gardiner, gonna have to wait, or buy that one out. I chose Pesce precisely because he has value. You can see I also assume Hamilton gets re-signed as well, so other comments out it being the the only RD are kinda misleading.
I dont watch Carolina super close, but I do know you can't keep all your good players forever, I do understand he is in all likelihood not going anywhere for the duration of his contract.
Canes have more and more signings to make though, and tough decisions come along with that. Could probably get more value for Pesce, but I didn't feel like going too in-depth since any Seattle trades on this board are 'CLEAR TROLLS' as well.
ALSO: Sure I liked the idea of Aho coming to MTL, but really we would just be even more screwed by the cap than we are at this point. He is good but not enough to redeem Montreal at the moment. Canes are the ones who got played on that exchange, my friend, by Aho.

like i said in the description; rangers could probably get CBJ to throw a pick of some kind in. But realistically these guys were both taken first round of the same draft, and have pretty close point per game numbers over 500+ games played (0.55 for Strome, 0.45 for Jenner)
You also have Jenner at 55% faceoffs and Strome at 45%

C for Laine Grit for Rangers
Strome seems like the best of the gettable Cs out there... they could probably get CBJ to throw in a later pick in this deal tbh
Rangers might have a desire to exchange skill for a bit of extra weight to throw around? He can flip back and forth 2-3C while Chytil matures.
CBJ gets someone closer to a 1C than Domi, completing a top 'skill' line of Laine-Strome-Nyquist for CBJ to build around with all their picks coming up.

Weber-Myers
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheAlien</b></div><div>Does Van get faced with a recapture penalty if they acquire him tho? I know for Luongo both Florida and Vancouver were faced with a penalty</div></div>
I think how it works is that as the contract goes along they track "net cap benefit"(NCB), which is basically the difference between the player's actual salary, and the cap hit. So any year that a team is paying the player more than what their cap hit is; NCB is accrued. If they pay less than the cap hit, the total NCB starts to reduce.
Basically since the end of the 17-18 season, Weber has been getting paid 6M, which is ~1.8M less than his cap hit. His first year in montreal, though he made 12M, so NCB for MTL was around 4M after that season. After this season the NCB for Montreal, or any other team who acquired him, will be negative, and therefore no penalty for anyone but Nashville.
For Luongo, the first year that Florida acquired him they paid 6.7M and his cap hit was 4.5M due to some being retained by the nucks. so first year they gained 2.2M NCB, but second year he only got paid 3.4M, with a cap hit of 4.5M... so the NCB dropped 1.1M from that 2.2M mark. then he retired.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheAlien</b></div><div>How does the cap recapture work if Weber retires</div></div>
from what i can tell, Nashville would have to pay anywhere from 6-24M(6 if he retires in 2023, then 8, then 12, then 24) ... costing them more later he retires(assuming still before contract ends of course). they made a revision for contracts like this, and parise, suter, etc ... where they can now spread that cap hit out over a few years, i think the most per season they can be dinged is equal to his AAV, though.

I do like Lehkky, but I feel you'd need something for them to attempt to swallow that Weber contract, even if they think its likely he would retire early. In the end I think the Habs might have to choose between Armia and Lehkonen this off season, and I like Armia a bit better when he is going.

Barrie will get paid more than that I think, plus what it will take to pry him away from Connor...
Lehkonen is 2.2 to qualify, Kotkaniemi might be a bit more. I'd pass on Stastny+Werenski and just re-sign Danault ... I like the idea of an established C of course, but I am not sure how gettable Kuz would be, I'm not great at trade analysis though.

idea was that CBJ fails to sign Laine, opts for full reset, and Jones isn't interested in sticking that out, so they flip him for the younger dahlin. skinner contract helps stay above the floor while in 'tank' mode

I know Ceci has found a role in Pittsburgh, but that doesn't mean Ottawa should be interested in bringing him back. Zub is <strong>miles</strong> better than him, and having him out of the top 4 is ridiculous.if they add a D this offseason they should look at someone like Zach Bogosian to play on the 3rd pair.</div></div>
Point taken on Zub, I am not in the Sens market so not quite as familiar with him at this point. I also re-jigged the forward lines with Stutzle at wing. I don't think Coleman hurts, but you are probably right, and the money <em>is</em> better spent at a later date. Both him and Granlund.
