Nobody is going to give 'top 10 RHD' value to Pesce in a trade. Oilers wouldn't trade Bouchard 1 for 1 for Pesce.

Which is fine. If canes do move him, I would think that they would want some scoring coming back so this deal doesn't make much sense anyway.

Got to find away to trade him
Nurse is buddy buddy with McDavid and Drai. They ain't moving him. Plus he has one of the worst contracts in the league. If Oilers don't win a cup with this group, it'll be because of Nurse and his ridiculous contract. The Campbell signing was also horrible. All they needed was a cheap backup type for a year until Skinner got more comfortable. Now they stuck with that. Lol. Imagine if the oilers had an extra 9 million right now to add a goalie and some depth forwards.
Hannafin isn't going to be happy until he's playing in the US. Why would you want a player who doesn't want to play for your team.

That's already an overpay.

Bouchard ain't getting moved.

He still put up 60 points last year. Monahan was done 3 years ago.

I agree with the Tkachuk take, they'll be lucky to get half that package for him. Frankly, he's over rated and I seriously doubt he'll ever have a statical season like he just had again.

.912 SV%, 2.85 GAA, 2.0 GSAA in 18 starts would have him as the best goalie on Edmonton, and they get him for two playoff runs (signed for next year as well). If Edmonton doesn't think that's worth a pick that will be in the 20s, that's their loss.</div></div>
Adding 5 million to the Oilers cap would mean they have to trade away either Yamamoto, puljujarvi or McLeod. Don't think management wants to do that.
The goaltending problem has been overblown by the media. Since the coaching change, the team has miraculously been: great at 5 on 5, vastly improved its depth scoring and has gotten good goaltending. It's amazing how much better a goalie looks when the team in front of him is playing really good. Take Carolina, they've been plugging in goalies for years and somehow they all seem to play great there. Oilers are finally learning to play good TEAM hockey.

Petry is already 34, with 4 more years at 6+ million. Oilers don't need, nor can they afford that contract. I wouldn’t take it for free. Lekhonen is a good player, but he's more of a luxury than a need. The oilers forward group is pretty set for the next 3-4 years. The young guys are playing well and there's still Holloway who should be ready next year.
Archibald is the exact type of player the oilers need to keep. Kills penalties and hits everything. Kassian is the only other forward that hits. You may not like his contract but the oilers need him in the lineup.
The Yamamoto deal is absolutely ridiculous. Even if you're really high on Zadina, you can get him for a waaaaay better price than that.
Varly ain't coming to Edmonton. Mike Smith will be the starter come playoff time. Next year will be a tandem of Skinner and Smith/Koskinen.

edmonton oilers scouting canadiens heavily
I don't think the oilers are even interested in Lekhi. There's already a bit of a log jam at forward. yamo, puljujarvi and Mcleod are all RFA'S that are gonna get nice raises. Doesn't make sense to add this guy. When Nuge comes back, he centers the 3rd line.
If oilers are scouting the Habs, it's probably for someone like Kulak.

They'll be looking pure rental. I don't think they can afford to add contracts with term. And broberg looks promising, but he's not ready yet. I'm not a fan of Barrie either, but they just signed him to a 3 year deal. Name the last player to sign long term with a team and then get traded in the 1st year of that deal. It doesn't happen. It's a bad look for the organization in terms of future UFA signings. And the oilers already have a huge problem with players not wanting to play in Edmonton.
Left shot D for 2nd/3rd pair. Broberg, Nemo or Lagesson can draw in if injuries occur. All those guys can play either side as well.

Rocket lineup after unrealistic perfect TDL and Draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>I see a lot of fans on here taking that stance but honestly Chiarot is not as bad as everyone on here thinks. Many say he is slow but he had the game winner in OT where he out skated 2 defenders to create a 2 on 1. Then there are people who say he can't pass to save his life but he makes decent passes all the time and in fact just last night he almost sprung Suzuki on a breakaway in OT while on the PK. He just hit the defenceman's skate with his backhand pass. Also for an example of not only his passing but also his creativity check out the GTG from last night. He is literally facing away from Pitlick spins in the corner to create space, as he is spinning he looks to the net and places a perfect pass right onto the tape of Pitlick for a tap in. Chiarot gets a lot of flack cause he is not the flashiest player but he is a highly skilled player, playing a defense first role. He wins 1 on 1 battles, makes zone entries difficult, and clears the front of net. Sure he cross-checks and punches guys in the head and plays physical but that is hockey, show me one D man who doesn't cross-check opponents in front of the net or a physical player who doesn't punch guys in the head any chance they get, see Marchand, Gallagher and Hyman for examples. All players do these things. The difference is that Chiarot isn't as flashy as some of those other guys. It's always nice to watch a Nurse skate up ice and score a beautiful goal but 9 times out of 10 that goal is scored because of a battle won along the boards or a stick in the lane that deflects a pass in the defensive end. Chiarot wins a lot of those battles that create those opportunities. Check out what a rival league executive said “They’re asking for a first-round pick and a good prospect,” said one league executive who works for a team very interested in Chiarot’s services.
“I don’t know if we can do that, and I think it’s a bit high, but I’d ask for it too. You can say there’s a lot of D-men on the market, but there are none like him. A guy his size who moves really well. A guy who can play 26 minutes in a playoff game. And he just does everything.”
See the story below for a good understanding of why Habs fans view Chiarot as more than just "pylon" as many trolls like to call him.
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/with-a-strong-performance-chiarot-could-be-leaving-canadiens-on-high-note/</div></div>
I'm not saying Chiarot is a bad player in any way. I've seen some of those plays you mention above and agree that he's playing really good. There's definitely some good chemistry going on in Montreal right now.
And that's why someone will give you guys a 1st for him. I still hope it's not us. I don't see him being "the missing piece" to something great happening. I could be wrong though. But history says that almost all high priced rentals aren't worth it.
