hahahahah, I though I'd lighten the mood and hit you with that one. In all seriousness though I think teams would line up if Laine truly is on the market. I don't think Chevy has really put him out there yet, think negotiations are still underway. I do remember one of the insiders mentioning that TOR and WPG will not be negotiating contracts after September 13th and they will be looking for the right trade, so I expect to see Connor, Laine and Mitch signed. In reality, Connor is probably the only one out of the 3 that signs before camp starts.

RFA trade discussion
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ccc</b></div><div>Laine I think too but honestly I think Connor has a good chance of being moved. I just see him being a better sale as he’s already complete no one can say he can’t do this or that cause He plays a good rounded game so he can possibly get a more fair return because as we’ll know, we all argue on here about laines trade value; so Connor could be a more solid and defined return</div></div>
That also could be reversed. The jets imo would rather move Laine cause he's a less complete player and he's gonna cost more than Connor. The guy is a perennial 30+ goal scorer and teams will "laine" up waiting to bid for his services ; )

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ccc</b></div><div>Oh yeah 100% we gotta wait preseason will be a better inside look. But kakkos size is nice but he plays like he isn’t “big” he’s got that little finesse. He reminds of Meier a guy who’s got a big frame and game but plays with little finesse and moves that kinda make you think he can’t play hard but man Meier can. And man I hope Kakko can do the same. I think Europe is putting out a lot of great talent, Finland is looking scary for upcoming World Cup/ olympics</div></div>
I just enjoy the fact that every season it seems, and since the new CBA, the rookie class has impressed, and that trend should continue. There are a bunch of high-flying kids on the Swedish team, Holtz and Raymond. They look like sure-bet NHLers.

Thread:
Heiskanen is overrated
There's a bunch of factors when getting into this type of thing. If your just looking a talent vs talent, its completely subjective. Some people value guys who are analytical beasts more than others who trust their "eye test" ability for example. That's just the way it is. No right or wrong answer really. Unless its blatantly wrong like "Dale Weise is a top line winger...".
If its taking contracts into consideration, A guy making 10M whose a superstar vs a guy who is on an ELC and is already showing signs of being a budding superstar may be equal in value in that sense. If you get what I mean? How cheap a players contract is can make up for that players difference vs the other player.
There's also the thing about what makes a player better than another? Is it simply points or P/60 or Corsi, etc etc. Its not perfect science so as long as both players are clearly in the same echelon, there is no wrong answer there too.
The problem on this site is people like to put the carriage before the horse. Its no disrespect to Heiskanen. He has to earn it and he simply hasn't earned it yet. (Not by his own doing, he literally hasn't played enough to earn it yet) Once he does he could potentially then be considered "better" than those players in a certain perspective but could be considered already better in another perspective. It really all depends on the parameters and how serious you want to take an arbitrary discussion about 1 player being better than the other. In all seriousness, who cares? It doesn't change anything what one person perceives is a better player than another.

Marner and his ego traded
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jfstompers</b></div><div>he just saw them pay Tavares Mathews and nylander then he puts up 90+ points and you think he doesn't want to be paid too. idk if thats what id call ego.</div></div>
People keep saying this as if it's true. Tavares took less than market value. Nylander started at Draisaitl money. They overpaid Matthews for the term but there would have been a legit offer sheet concern that Toronto would have had to match given his star status, thus either saving money or at the very least a huge headache. Marner doesn't have that leverage.
If 11x7 was on the table back in June it would have made Marner the highest paid winger and tied for third highest AAV in the entire league. An unprecedented offer for a 22 yo winger.

Eriksson has negative value. Tyramkin has zero value. Virtanen and a 2nd alone won't get Ghost. Its not that you'll necessarily have to add more, its that you'd have to replace the two pieces in the deal that valueless/negative value with something of value.

Leafs paid a 1st to get rid of Marleau's contract. You are not getting away with a 2nd and Tryamkin. I doubt Virtanen is enough to get Gosth...

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ExpiredmilkYT</b></div><div>It's also odd considering you traded Montour (good trade for both sides imo), yet now your GM wants to trade for an older version of him.</div></div>
100%, and before that we moved Vatanen, and we gave up Theodore to Vegas. I don't understand how Murray thinks lately. why give up Kase for Faulk when we could get Ceci for peanuts in comparison (I know Faulk is much better)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ccc</b></div><div>Oh yeah I think this trade is terrible, even if Kase needs a year to fully heal after playing like 20 games and they shut him down for precautionary and than he can play 82 next year Anaheim gets a really good pick in a stacked draft lol. It’s a win win. They keep him they get all the decisions, they trade him they could trade and easy 60+ point guy that Anaheim needs, and needs more then Faulk</div></div>
100% agree, I'm a fan of Faulk but not at the cost of Kase

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ccc</b></div><div>THE ONLY justification I can see is that ANA isn’t confident about his health and see him bouncing out again before TDL and being out the year and than soon the trade looks like a early judgement call gone right. But who knows. And yeah the move is head scratcher, that’s the only thing I can why they trade Kase</div></div>
Yeah and I get that train of thought, and to be fair I can't see his physicals so I don't know how bad it truly is. My thing is if CAR wants him this bad, he has to be at a point were a full season isn't something that is unattainable for him. I just see so much potential in Kase I would hate to move him in what would effectivley be a win now move when IMO the team isn't built to win now

Player vs Player 8
This is tough because you're comparing a guy with one year of success who is likely going to get even better, with guys who have had years of success already. If we're talking about potential then I'd take him over a bunch of guys here, but just for a year I don't think you can justify taking Miro over any of those guys, although some of the matchups are close.

Im sorry this is disgusting
The time has come for Dubas to crank up the pressure on Marner. To date, Dubas and the Leafs have been completely professional during this negotiation - that ends now.
Dubas' playbook:
Sep 11 - Make best and final offers at 2y, 3y, 6y, 7y, 8y to Marner. Maner has the ability to accept any of these offers. Let him know that he has a week to accept the offers. If not accepted by Sep 18th, make the offers public.
Sep 18 - Make offers public. Let everyone know that these offers expire effective Sep 30.
Sep 30 - Announce that a deal has been reached or that negotiations are officially closed. Marner will either sit for the season or be traded.
The above strategy will not sit well with Marner's camp, but at least it ends all public speculation about what the actual offers are. This puts the ball completely in the player's hands. The time to be professional is over.

Greedy Marner
You are looking at it really really narrowly.. Matthews is more than just 1C (also he is centerman and elite elite goalscorer which both of adds atleast 750k in terms of value). he is most likely the next captain, leader, young up and coming superstar and one of the best forwards in the league with skillset that only few in the league have. It was quite overpayment (by circa 500k), but Marner is not that. Not a leader (especially not with that attitude towards team), not a captain, not a goalscorer, not a centerman and not one of the best forwards in the league. This is all negotiating tactics and until Oct 2, let them do whatever they want even tho Im angry but after that date if he does not sign a (I would call it) "reasonable overpayment".. and if he is not signed because he declined overpayment of 11x7 which is already ridiculous offer, then **** him and rightfully so. Matthews was not greedy. It was gentlemen making a deal at right time. Ive heard that all parties in these negotiations were gentlemen-level good and profesional with Matthews taking a stance in the negotiations as well and it was really satisfying negotiations from both sides Ive heard. I dont see anything greedy in there.
EDIT: Taking 5yr 2nd deal in NHL is one of the most common things in NHL and 99% of players making that move didnt leave their team and signed 8yr contracts or longer afterwards... 8yr deal for Auston would be around 13M..
