This is largely wishful thinking, particularly since he's becoming divisive in the room.

Hey now, you're not hiding your MTL fandom behind a Columbus ACGM...we're not interested in handing you Johnson, unless <em>you're</em> giving <em>us </em>the quality, and <em>we're </em>giving <em>you </em>the quantity.
I don't see us trading Laine unless it's for an NHL-floor prospect that's nearly ready now, plus picks that are heavily conditioned (like, a 3rd that upgrades to a 2nd if he plays 50+ games, and upgrades to a 1st if he scores 25+ goals). Otherwise it makes more sense to keep him.
Most of the other moves I'm actually pretty okay with. It's a reasonable, sensical roster that's better than last year's, so props for that!

I think Jacket's retaining 1.9M per actually saves them a small amount of real money. Avoids the extra 3 years and on the third year actually saves cap from a buyout. Costs more cap the first two though, obviously the first with Husso on the books.

Re If Marner Waives
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>Marner isn't extending for CBJ FFS if that is your logic just hang it up. Marner will go test FA because he doesn't owe anyone anything nor is CBJ going to give him 12 mil per.</div></div>
This is such a lazy argument. The whole premise of this specific ACGM is that he waives for Columbus, and he's not waiving for somewhere he wouldn't consider extending. Why in the world would he waive for a bottom-4 team as a UFA-to-be otherwise? Why would Columbus ever consider trading anything for Marner in an assumed non-playoff year unless there was an extension in place?
Suspend your disbelief for one second for the sake of a conversation. If he's not going to extend <em>anywhere </em>because he's going to test free agency, he's going to stay in Toronto and then walk.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>
You are also over here assuming CBJ is buying out Elvis.
A team with no real organizational depth in net, in one of the worst goalie markets in years, isn't buying out a goalie.</div></div>
Tarasov and Greaves both proved last season that they're better options already. We have organizational depth, we just need a vet backup that isn't going to b**** to the media and demand a trade when he plays himself out of 1st or 2nd string. Hence the probable buyout.

Re If Marner Waives
I'd classify this under "aggressive offseason", in which case it's probably one of my favorites...which means trade values likely skew Columbus' way. That's especially true on Marner, I think that's the max offer CBJ give, but it's also lower than where other teams would be willing to go.
I wouldn't change much. A lot of things have to go right (Fantilli taking a huge step, Laine bouncing back fully, Marner meshing well, Tarasov playing like he did at his peak last season, Nylander finding more magic in the tank, and basically half the bottom-6 developing), but it's not out of the question that this team pushes for a wildcard spot next year.

CBJ accept, I'd assume that 2025 2nd gets swapped for ours this year with Philly as part of the conditions on the Provorov trade, but then we'd just send you this year's 2nd (36 OA).

Blue Jacket Fans give feedback
Voronkov doesn't need a new contract until 25-26 so he can get scratched off the list. As for KJ, Sillinger, Marchenko, and Chinakhov, they're all going to get bridge deals except maybe Marchenko. There's no point in trading any of them away, especially for picks, when they're all perfectly affordable and still developing. Hold onto em and see what they become unless you can trade for a 19-24 y/o upgrade.

That’s a fair assessment from a non-jackets fan of laine. Jackets aren’t going to sell that low on him but no team will pay what he’s worth when healthy. Jackets don’t need the cap so are better off hoping he can stay healthy and have a rebound season and get more value for him next offseason or next trade deadline

How to fix the roster
Columbus would give you Elvis for free, and probably retain up to $2M, but not more. And we certainly wouldn't be paying assets to make it happen, a buyout is actually the more attractive option in that case. We don't really need Voit (got plenty of fringe NHLers and prospects) or Akhtiamov (we already have a better, younger KHL goalie in Ivanov), so they aren't needle movers.
I'd counteroffer Elvis at $1.75M retained for FC. Giving up draft capital just isn't more attractive than what's a relatively cheap buyout.

Honestly, I'd rather just keep Sillinger. I don't see Necas as adding much that we're not already in the process of developing, and I don't see him aiding significantly in that development.
...also, how in the heck do you manage to have Laine and Brindley at center but Jenner and Voronkov on the wings? Or Voronkov on the fourth line? And where the heck is Texier?

trading some RFAs
I don't like the idea of trading for Cirelli with Sillinger here, and I'd rather have the cheaper, younger Sillinger. Cirelli is elite defensively, but he's a 3rd-line shutdown guy making too much money for too long. Sillinger on the 4th line is a waste when Kuraly fills that role now and LDBB fills that role later. I think adding Cirelli at the expense of Marchenko, who we need more, is also a waste.
I'm fine with the Necas trade, and that's the kind of trade we should be looking for, but Carolina might not bite.
I do like the Dillon signing, and if we add Silayev at 4OA that's an elite left side in 3-4 years.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChrisNapoleon</b></div><div>Can't wait for people to say "Jackets decline" without explaining</div></div>
Much of the time, the explanation's already been given so many, many times over that it ceases to be interesting to do so and responses become merely rote actions delivered just for the sake of reminding people that our team has its own ambitions in the League rather than existing to fuel those of others.
In this case, the reasons for the "no" are:
* we're in no hurry to move Gaudreau; he's been more than fine here
* Lee's capacity as a potential mentor would be useful but that's literally the only value he'd have here
* the pick is of no real interest because the prospect pool here has already been built - we're at the "grow and develop the kids" phase rather than "add more kids" - and the pick isn't high enough to get someone good enough that it'd be worth setting that aside.
