all good points however saying that too much money is **** blocking the future of the team is ridiculous when you look at the Crosby and Malkin whom together makes 20.4 mil... look how that team ended up.. Syd is 4 years into a 12 year contract that may average 8.75 mil but reality he is getting over 10 mil this year as his contract is front loaded.. it seems to me last year everyone was saying Pens wont win the cup as they have too much money tied up in Syd, Malkin, Kessel Letang which between 4 of them made almost 35 million..
oilers will trade nuge to free up cap room, invest in Puljujarvi and yamamoto, pakarinen as well as Shlepy and let maroon and Letestu go next year as they develop their younger stars to replace them..

I am not worried about the cap for next year because lets face it.. Nuge is not a $6 mill a year player.. he doesnt put up the numbers so he will be trade bait at some point in time.. plus alot of the guys who has contracts expiring end of next season are not big money players... RFAs will get resigned the UFAs are gone...

What I think the Oilers will do between now and training camp
Not bad... Drai should be more around $7 - 8 mil per at 8 years.. franson may be a bit high... $2mill plus bonuses based on performance he has just been too inconsistent of player

Colorado 17-18 cup run(it's just a joke)
Not a cup run but a definitely improved team.. Jussi, Jagr and Franson are not enough to compete with the western teams like nashville, Edmonton, Anaheim and Chicago.

@exo2769 Philly has never been a team that builds to the future.. they always want to win right now. .. Nuge gives them scoring and Sekera shore us some D with loss of Prov.. maybe 2 draft picks is over zealous ...
@oilnate - Hornqvist is older and to stay younger and competitive Pitt would have fix for now and lots of draft picks for future building.. would keep the team competitive for years. - Oil would get experience for the now and a player for future who would be worth the sacrifice of the talent and draft picks they give up.

Oilers 2017/2018 season
I tried to balance out with some seasoned vets that can put up points on 3rd and 4th line plus help with playoff and adversity experince. as well as maintain some young strong talent moving forward in future years as Jagr and Iggy are 1 year deals leaving $30 mill in cap space the following season for McJesus and any other contracts / decent free agents.. with Benning, Nurse and Klef coming into thier own Oil can sacrifice Sekeras age and skill and stay strong on blue line.. Duschene is there to shore up talent with nuge gone while Puljujarvi, slepyshev and Caguila get better..

Honqvist for Nugent Hopkins ?? straight up is not realistic especially with Oilers buying out Pouliot contract...
I like Honqvist and would do the trade if you sweeten the pot.. either a 2nd and 3rd pick or you add Gnuetzel and Oilers throw in a 3rd in '18 with conditional 4 in '19 and a 7th pick in '19 and '20

Nugent-Hopkins Deal
Oilers would never do that Nuge deal without a draft pick as the value is not there.. maybe with a condition 3rd pick they might..

YES that Philly trade!!!! Keeps us young and strong, with a bit better skill and size plus gives us a great young D-man who will be future top 2 pairing. and gives us draft picks to build for future. At same time Philly gets the playoff push players for the right now that they have been searching for. 2 guys that can help compete against the Penguins when they face them
I changed Nesterov's contract to $2.25 mill as he has some decent numbers and consistency and given a defensive minded team will only improve to a good third pair or even second over time of which you use as trade bait when contract nears end.
Honqvist adds scoring touch especially in playoffs as well as Iggy comes home to Edmonton adds size strength and grittiness for deep playoff run.
AND.. gives us $32 mill in cap room next year!!
