2023-2024 NHL Discussion Thread #5: The Final Stretch
Dallas has such a good roster. they have seven 20 goal scorers(!) its a shame one of dallas or winnipeg is gonna be eliminated first round.
out of the east i think it would be funny if philly went on a run. panthers seem too good to be true kinda like last time they won the presidents trophy but damn theyre fun to watch

it would be nice to get out of schmidt’s cap hit entirely, and it kinda sucks to scratch a $3M player after trading for him, even if he is great depth. i dont see it being realistic for either team. also edmonton is in win-now mode and wont trade ekholm whos been good for them for draft futures

exactly what i was gonna say. good for EP, great for canucks and fantastic for canucks fans. he’s underrated imo

not sure how high LA is on kaliyev but is lohrei good enough to play 1st pairing into the playoffs and push forbort to a healthy scratch?

Jets arent done
as much as i would love TK i agree flyers are very unlikely to trade him. when has a team ever named a player to their captaincy then immediately shipped them off? the price would be very high, too.
i also think perfetti is in bones’ doghouse now but the jets wont give up on him. the org still highly values him and i think he’ll become a solid top 6 player, similar to scheifele’s development. it took scheif 4 years to figure out the nhl, perfetti just needs to gain a bit more muscle and i think he’ll break out huge next year with a full consistent season.
seems like a walker deal is a certainty at this point and he’ll be relatively cheap since apparently philly doesnt have the appetite to re-sign him. that’ll be a good add

i wasnt surprised but that’s because i agreed with his reasoning. kudos to the leafs however for pulling out 4 wins

finishing touches
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jets27</b></div><div>TK does slot in for perfetti I just don't see perfetti ever being a guy ho can drive play or be very effective without great line mates he looks scared and if we have a chance to win now I really don't think it is in our best interests to play him in the playoffs. that being said I can see the potential and he's a very skilled player</div></div>
i really dont agree with this, perfetti has shown he has multiple levels he can still reach. hes good defensively, has taken hits to make plays this year and has stayed healthy so far. lots of progress from last year and he’ll only get better. he has the most pp goals on the jets iirc sometimes playing net front (aka eating cross checks). obviously areas to improve in like faceoffs but hes the long term success solution (and the short term gap between him and konecny isnt large). time will tell if he’ll pan out as a true centre at the NHL level but he’s a lock on the 2nd line for probably a long time

highly unlikely jets move perfetti. i like konecny and hes a great player but perfetti is playing well, hasnt reached his ceiling yet and will be cost effective for longer. and this move doesnt address any problems the jets have, since konecny is literally replacing perfetti at the cost of depth and futures. i wouldnt mind seeing them grab another defenseman tho, maybe give some of our depth a chance to play elsewhere

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jpsnow13</b></div><div>Monahan will help the PP, PK and faceoffs, all areas Winnepeg needed help.
That line up is very well balanced, and they still have capspace, so they could still add another piece (RHD?).
It would need to he a body swap though (Stanley out?), because their roster is full and I can't see them waiving anyone.</div></div>
iirc we’ve previously successfully waived AJF and toninato so that’s why i chose them.

i like couture but his contract length doesnt really fit with what id like to see being done to fill holes (2C) internally. also agree with san jose needing to be very strategic with their last retention spot

idk how i feel about andersson because our D is playing well and has good chenistry, but adding lindholm would
be huge to fill the 2c hole. id be fine paying a 1st+lucius even without an extension because of how potent we’d be plus his help on special teams

Glass
i like this idea a bit more, i think glass can hit another level and its true our PP sucks right now. i dont know what the likelihood of us re-signing barrie is but obviously he wants out of nashville so it’d be good for them to get something in a trade. not sure where glass is playing in their lineup but perhaps a 2nd instead of stanley would be better received?
