Most overpaid player on each team
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>V123</b></div><div>Why Nic Hague?? I think he’s underrated and underpaid. I would like to know why his contract is bad for you??</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MisstheWhalers</b></div><div>I don't see anything wrong with Hague's contract, he's pretty solid and everything we hope Stanley can still become 🙏.. lol
I guess Karlsson's contract would be the worst one on Vegas but he's still a good player so his contract is fine at this point and had a great playoffs, cant believe he was an expansion draft giveaway.</div></div>
disclaimer that i too don’t think vegas has any *really* bad contracts and hague is not a bad player. and also i thought it was $2.92M, not $2.29M (to be fair it’s a weird number lol). but the rationale would be he’s still a 3rd pair defenseman with minimal offensive upside, and they need every dollar they can

GET A GOALIE
the longer offseason has gone on, the less i think a hellebuyck to njd trade is likely. nor do i think its best for both teams. njd is at the beginning of a very promising window and having hellebuyck for a year has the most value to the jets as they’re going to try the hardest to re-sign him

2023 NHL Offseason Discussion Thread #4 - The quiet period
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyScotty</b></div><div>I think there is a clear-cut TOP 4 pairings in the NHL, and the arguments to be made start around the "5th best" ranking with less all-around greatness and situational pros/cons, deployment, and playstyle factoring in.
<strong>Great all-around top pairings:</strong>
Toews-Makar
Martinez-Pietrangelo
Slavin-Burns
Lindgren-Fox
If Lindholm-McAvoy was an actual full-time pairing: I'm sure they would rank high. As would Heiskanen and Josi if they actually had a solid/regular partner.
<strong>In the Running:</strong>
Siegenthaler-Hamilton
Anderson-Doughty
Dunn-Larsson
Samuelsson-Dahlin
Forsling-Ekblad
Lindholm-Carlo
Grzelcyk-McAvoy
Sergachev-Cernak
McNabb-Theodore
Middleton-Spurgeon
Morrissey-Pionk
Pelech-Pulock
Petterson-Letang
Hedman-Perbix
Ekholm-Bouchard (small sample size)
Chabot-Chychrun is one to watch if they stay healthy and together.</div></div>
calgary has a sneaky good D core, especially if they get kylington back. i also think toronto’s d is getting too much hate

in the end we’re discussing/speculating, i think you can absolutely have an opinion if a player is overpaid or not on a brand new contract. there’s a few more players on this list that also just signed new contracts
that said, i might’ve picked hague

This team is nasty
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ross_Johnston</b></div><div>toronto was one of the best teams in the league that year. winnipeg was mid but had star power. vegas was one of the best teams in the league lol. it wasn't an easy path to the finals.</div></div>
toronto wouldve been third at best in any other conference by points and they had the luxury of beating up on only canadian teams, all of which had flaws. vegas was a good team yes but not world beaters (even the wild pushed them to the brink). the lightning showed them what’s what and rinsed them
this discussion started by you implying adding depth without star power is sufficient in the nhl, using the 2021 habs as an example. and you’ve ignored the point they had an elite goalie. in a mangled year from covid in a weak-ish division they barely made playoffs, and without price they wouldn’t have at all. a team without elite pieces doesn’t win in today’s nhl

you fail to mention their elite goalie (which detroit currently also lacks) plus the canadian division path to finals lol

im ready for the pain.
there’s an odd collection of players here honestly. im expecting a lot more trading off of depth players. i know granlund has deteriorated but his style isn’t that of a 4th liner, so there’ll likely be a lot of line shuffling

HELLEBUYCK FAKSA OFF-SEASON ACQUISITONS
i like the thought you put into the description but thats a pretty bad return for the jets. also wondering why bother acquiring hellebuyck if you acknowledge the habs wont make playoffs? he’d be a useless rental or paid a lot well into his 30s to keep him

i like sokolov, depending on what the jets do this year (blow it up, make a playoff run, etc) i’d be interested if the pick was upgraded. jets need some young centers to really step up tho.

yeah probably the same boring as usual, but then again that’s what makes ACGMs so fun. id also be surprised if CBJ gave up on sillinger since they also lack quality centers

unless i’m missing something, leaf’s gain about $2M in cap space and actual salary owed
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>So, the issue for the Canes here is that they need another top 9 forward. Nylander is an upgrade on Teuvo, but it doesn't fix the Canes issues. I see the idea, but now Carolina's LHD situation with Brodie, Slavin, Skjei, Orlov... there's just not enough RHD and that does matter for the Canes, it's why they didn't go after Brodie when he was a free agent.
Also, the lines on here... like, you should get an infraction for 4th line Jarvis</div></div>
i see what you’re saying about the handedness but brodie does normally play right side<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Falcon_talon</b></div><div>AND Marty on the 3rd line instead of Noesen is an L</div></div>
so you guys would essentially just switch the 3rd and 4th lines? i mean, this is what happens when you have a deep team, good players at the top and bottom of the lineup. i put nylander with bunting for the toronto connection and iirc staal has chemistry with fast but im not a canes fan so
