Hawks should take a gamble on Kaapo
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Terrifiedofeveryone</b></div><div>It’s interesting that fans making ACGMs trading for Kakko seem to be placing him in their top-six despite the fact he’s apparently only worth a 2nd. The majority of Rangers fans don’t want to get rid of him at all, turning down these kinds of trades has nothing to do with Kakko’s value in a vacuum, but rather what he provides to the team as it is trying to compete. A 2025 first does nothing to help the Rangers now.</div></div>
There's not 1 player on the Hawks roster outside of Bedard that would be in the Rangers top 6, let alone top 9. The point is, a rebuilding team has the flexibility to take a flyer and not loose much if they can't extract more value from Kaapo and if not, they overpaid slightly. The Rangers on the other hand need help now and a 1st round pick gives them an asset to help them get help now that arguably is better than they would get for KK. At this point, he's probably worth a 2nd, so Hawks slightly overpay and Rangers get that asset to make a play for someone else.
Trades don't always happen in vacuums.

At best a late 1st. He's had 5 seasons in the NHL, your statement might be true after his first 3 seasons but after 5 seasons, not under contract (although an RFA), he's probably worth a 2nd and maybe a late 1st on a good day.

In all seriousness if Moore, Rinzel, Nazar, or a 1st are the table the Rangers definitely consider it.</div></div>
Kaapo is not worth Moore, Rinzel or Nazar; not a chance. At best he may get a late 1st but more likely a 2nd rounder is about the best the Rangers can expect in return.

He's likely worth a 2nd for a flyer, but Rangers fans go crazy so was being generous :)

Toews is done as a player by all indications. If he's not, it would be very unlikely Toews wants to play for a team that is rebuilding.
Stamkos is not going to sign with a rebuilding team either, even for an overpay.
The Hawks may sign Zadarov to a short 1 or 2 year deal, but not beyond that.
Hawks are rebuilding as you know, they don't want to win a lot of games next season either as they position themselves for a lottery pick in 2025. The summer of 2025 is likely when you see the Hawks get a bit more aggressive in free agency and in 2026 even more so as the 2026/2027 is when their competitive window truly opens.

Offseason Series - HAWKS
Hawks aren't going to be interested in that Dallas trade, and Vlasic on a 7 year deal will make a lot more than this. He's top 5 out of the entire NHL in the defensive zone statistically. If the Hawks push to lock him up long term, which I believe they will, Vlasic on a 7 or 8 year deal will command a minimum of $5.5M and could be as high as $7M. This also why I think ultimately they agree to a bridge deal for $3.5M to $4.5M as both sides are going to want to revisit his performance in 2 to 3 years.

True but the big question is can Norris stay healthy. 50 to 60 games a year at a almost $8M cap hit isn't ideal obviously.

I don't know honestly about this. I think the Hawks could take Palmeiri for free to retain half and trade at the next year's TDL. At $2.7M, he would garner something back at the TDL IMO, maybe a 2nd or 3rd so it's almost like free assets.
I agree though, that Wahlstrom is a bust, but maybe sign him for $900K and help Rockford out.

Of the four, the most he's with is JT at 80 minutes all season and....is worse with him than without? If you want to be obnoxiously specific, Robertson <em>has</em> played with the top four forwards, but based on the TOI it's basically negligible. And even when he's been put with them, it doesn't provide any evidence it's actually boosted his production. Entirely plausible he'd get more goals and assists with them, but that's not what has happened this season which is what you were implying.
We can look at Kurashev next, whose<a href="https://www.naturalstattrick.com/linestats.php?fromseason=20232024&thruseason=20232024&stype=2&sit=5v5&score=all&rate=n&team=CHI&vteam=ALL&view=wowy&loc=B&gpfilt=none&fd=2023-10-10&td=2024-04-18&tgp=2000&strict=incl&p1=8480798&p2=8484144&p3=8477450&p4=8474870&p5=8473422" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">most common linemate</a> is Bedard. <a href="https://www.naturalstattrick.com/linestats.php?fromseason=20232024&thruseason=20232024&stype=2&sit=5v5&score=all&rate=n&team=CHI&vteam=ALL&view=wowy&loc=B&gpfilt=none&fd=2023-10-10&td=2024-04-18&tgp=2000&strict=incl&p1=8484144&p2=8480798&p3=0&p4=0&p5=0" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">Narrowing it down</a>, he's played more with Bedard than with anyone else. The values also imply he's not only been significantly less productive without Bedard than with, they've been pretty bad together in general. Maybe that's just consequence of the Blackhawks overall season. Regardless, he's absolutely been strapped to Bedard this season.
So my original post still stands. The "Leafs player only good because other good players" argument doesn't work with Robertson. Absolutely makes a strong case for 2nd best forward on your team considering he doesn't need to rely on star players to produce and actually has knees. He's absolutely worth more than a 4th or whatever pittance picks he's been getting on this forum.</div></div>
Happy to point out what you are missing. Look at Robertson's point production on the top two lines and you will see that 80% of his point production this season is on the top two lines. He also doesn't have the defensive game Kurashev brings which is what Kurashev is known for. Furthermore, Robertson when he produces is not next to one star on the ice like Kurashev (who outproduces him), but two starts be it Nylander and JT or Matthews and Marner. Kurashev and Bedard play with guys like Joey Anderson who couldn't even make the Leafs squad comparably.
I'm willing to bet hands down 31 GMs in the league would rather have Kurashev with his two way game and rarely injured versus the small fragile Robertson who can't produce without two stars on his line.

Hall's been on a rough decline. I wouldn't invest a lot in him being that good next season.</div></div>
He has played with both Matthews & Taveres and as such Marner and Nylander. Look at Robertson's production with those lines versus without.
Hall and Kurashev are both better, especially Kurashev who plays a complete 200 ft game and is very good defensively. And no, Kurashev has not been tied to Bedard the entire season no different then your argument with Robertson and the top 2 lines.

A) There's zero acceptance problem with Chicago fans what the plan is in Chicago
B) Robertson would not be the 2nd best forward. He's not better than Kurashev or Hall and his numbers would plummet in Chicago without the help he gets in Toronto.

San Jose has a big need for defense and have a long term build going on. As such, it only makes sense for them to fill their need at defenders first rather than forwards given the development time involved in a defensive prospect versus forward prospect.
Hawks probably are looking very closely at Levshunov, but he and Korchinski wouldn't be an ideal pairing as both are offensive D-men. Vlasic, who as a rookie is playing first line against the top competition and ranks top 5 in the league in the D zone (the only Hawks d man this season with positive analytics), would be much more ideal to pair up with Levshunov. Korchinski plays the 2nd line behind Vlasic.

Probably yes, even though Nylander is peaking now and the next couple of years without aligning to the Hawks rebuild plan which is to say their window won't begin to open for another 2 seasons. My only hesitation is I don't love his $11.5M cap hit going on 29 years old in a month as such, but the value on paper weighs in the Hawk favor for sure.

Not a chance Hawks select a LHD guy. Vlasic is top 5 in the NHL in the defensive zone this year playing on the first line and is a rookie. Couple that with Korchinski and the Hawks are set on the top 2 lines on the left side. Then they have 3 or 4 prospects on the left battling it out for a future 3rd line spot and 2 of which are for sure locks to play in the NHL.
