Quiet Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChrisPy97</b></div><div>I actually really like this
My only gripe is with lines. For now I would keep Batherson on the top line since he's had great chemistry with Tkachuk and Norris, and then give either Dadonov or Brown the 2RW spot. I like Granlund because if Pinto goes off he can move to the wing and let Pinto get the 2C, while letting Paul or White slide to the 3C,
I've always liked Granlund period, and think he still has something to offer and just didnt work in Nashville. I like the Bogosian signing too - low risk low term and low salary (I think we could actually get him for less but maybe not - depends how much he cares about moving to Ottawa), and basically a better and cheaper version of Gudbranson from last year.
Also this is small but I think Gustavsson will be above Daccord on the depth chart</div></div>
My thought process with the lines is basically that I think White has more to give offensively, but he's just overburdened as a C. I would start him on the 1st line, to see if he and Tkachuk can find a bit of that chemistry they had as rookies again. If it doesn't work, you can move him to the 3rd line and move Dadonov or Brown up.
As far as Batherson is concerned, I think the Sens are better served putting Stützle and Batherson together on the Granlund line. I like Granlund, but he's not exactly a line driver, and putting Stützle with two complimentary guys by putting Dadonov/Brown/White there too is asking a lot of him at this stage. With Batherson, we at least know that those two wingers can push the pace of play whoever their C is (they got good results playing with Tierney after all. I think this will get the most out of Stützle and Granlund, and helps the team more overall than loading up the 1st line.
Also I would rather see Gus vs Daccord at this point as well, but from an asset management perspective they need to find out what Daccord is. Daccord is older, and would need to clear waivers to be sent down which I believe Gus wouldn't need.

Like what you’ve done but I do agree Schwartz, Ullmark and maybe Granlund get more $$.
Also definitely Korenar > Dell. Sad cause I like Dell, but he’s at the tail end of his career.

Brady is not signing that unfortunately. Also that Gustavsson deal is horrendous. He was incredible this year, but it was 9 games. He'll get a Similar deal to what Daccord got.
No point in signing a 4th liner if it pushes Formenton out, but I doubt Greig plays this year.
I like Oesterle, but I wouldn't go multi year. Sanderson is coming at the end of this season, and that 3rd LD spot should be left open after this season for Mete to push to grab hold.

2021 2nd round pick (DAL)
What is this?
If I know Honka signed in the SHL, don't ya think GMPD knows it too?
If I know winger Tufte can't score, don't ya think GMPD knows it too?
Bourque might make it one day, but your problem is, Ottawa isn't rebuilding anymore, Batherson is a part of the finished product.

I think those declining from a TB standpoint are undervaluing Batherson, Zuband Gustavsson.
Batherson scored at a 50 point pace in his first full season in the NHL, while Cirelli regressed scoring at a 35 point pace. To me, I don't see Cirelli as any better than Colin White right now and would play behind Norris and maybe even Pinto who really impressed in his short time at the NHL.
Zub is the type of dman Ottawa needs more of. Strong defensively, makes the right decision way more often than not and solidifies any pairing he's on. He turned Reilly (who was picked up for a 5th) into a guy who was traded for a 3rd at the deadline. I think the world of Sergachev but with Chabot, and to a much lesser extent Brannstrom and Mete we don't need more offensive defencemen.
To top it off Gustavsson is likely the goalie Ottawa protects in the expansion draft, that's how high they regard him.
I don't think Ottawa would need to think long and hard about this trade as it doesn't fill their needs, even if the value is close.

What it Sounds Like Holland is Doing
Ullmark is arguably the best option for teams looking for a young starter. I think he's getting close to 5 mill or 5 years of term on the open market.
I think RNH is gone. His options in EDM are to be a bottom 6 C, or play LW, this guy is a centre and teams will covet him. Minnesota and Columbus come to mind.
Tatar would make a lot of sense, the familiarity with Holland. Schwartz could be a fit too

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChrisPy97</b></div><div>Agreed. He reminds me a lot of Bergeron before Marchand broke out</div></div>
The thing is Bergeron also reinvents himself - like he's turned into an elite bumper and a better shooter while in his thirties, and on top of that always been a better PKer than Larkin, but Dylan isn't that far off in terms of 5on5 qualities. He should be a pretty clear 1C to most people, especially if he can stay healthy.

Oilers 2021 Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChrisPy97</b></div><div>I appreciate the position. If I'm Edmonton I'd leave Palmieri alone (he's likely staying near NY cuz that's where he lives and is from), sign Coleman like you did but for the third line, and then go after a true top 6 winger like Hoffman, Hyman, or Tatar. You could get any of those guys for about $1 million more than that Palmieri contract</div></div>
Ah I didn't know that he was from there. Then yeah, he likely is staying in NY. I like your three suggestions. If Hyman hits the open market I would probably prefer him out of those three options, but they're all solid and can play a top 6 role.
Thanks for the feedback!

Oilers 2021 Offseason
I like the overall strategy and all of the players you-ve targeted to sign. I only demur to the realism of the Palmieri signing -- I don't think he's going anywhere that they don't virtually guarantee him top-6 minutes.
That being said, the bottom 6 was exposed by Winnipeg and I think you're going to have to find some impact players there. But this is a good foundation from which to start.
P.S. Welcome to CapFriendly, by the way. This may be the best initial effort I've ever seen on CF.

Shedding more vets for assets
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChrisPy97</b></div><div>All great points! Totally understand
I think there's a bit more value and potential to Tippett maybe - I see him as a maybe better Patric Hörnqvist-type player, in which case he could fit in the top 6 of most teams. I also think since Florida already has Hörnqvist himself as well as Denisenko, that Rakell is an upgrade they can afford.
I'm not sure Manson is worth that much, although I can understand wanting it. He just hasn't been able to show enough the past two years, at very little fault of his own. I think they should keep Fleury or at least make room for younger D so I would keep one of him or Shattenkirk. On that note I based the Volkov decision on my own opinion plus a couple mock drafts done by some pros. It's almost impossible to predict these things, but with the amount of quality defense out there I think they're more likely to take more swings at young forwards who might do better with increased opportunity, like Volkov. I also always forget how there were just some nothing picks (Methot, Berube) that barely had any roster impact at all. So who the heck knows lol.</div></div>
Agree completely on Manson. My main point is that it's probably more valuable for them to keep him and ease Drysdale in as opposed to giving him away for nothing. I just don't see Niku being any sort of answer long term, other than the fact that he's a RD that can fill a spot next year. It's definitely "fair" value, I wouldn't argue that at all. If we could shed Shatty instead, I'd be pretty content. He's a complimentary piece on a solid team, which we definitely aren't :tearsofjoy
No argument from me on Tippett either, and the more I think about it, the more entertaining I think a Comer-Zegras-Tippett line would be.

I think they will trade varlamov (5 mill cap hit) because of the emergence of sorokin. They could also use a buyout on one of clutterbuck/komarov. I think beau will get something like 4.5-5 mill x 4-6 years

It'd be interesting to see who he has on his NTC too. A lot of guys have the Canadian teams on there to avoid the high income tax rates.

I don't know...I don't think you really worry about Rico at this point. Not a ton of point doing all of this just to make the lateral move of getting Granlund IMO. Edmonton could probably just buyout Neal, and get Granlund themselves if they really wanted to.
I'd love to get a bit of value out of Silfverberg, but don't see it happening without retention.
I feel like Rakell likely gets a 1st+so/so prospect instead of Tippett+2nd+3rd. Tippett seems like a playoff-type player, where it's more valuable to bang and crash, so I'd assume the Panthers would prefer to hold onto him.
I'd prefer to get a 2nd+meh prospect for Manson if we're intent on moving him. Personally, I'd rather keep him to eat up some of the dirty minutes so we can actually ease Drysdale in, as opposed to throwing him to the wolves like we did this year. I'd also assume it's one of him, Shatty or Fleury who ends up going in the expansion draft. Stolarz would be a wildcard pick, but is still more likely to get picked than Volkov, IMO.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChrisPy97</b></div><div>Oh I agree. It was my indirect way of saying that Draisaitl isn't a realistic target. I absolutely think this would be the asking price (btw if they had Leon it might not be a top 5 pick) - he's a top 5 player in the world.
I do think they should extend Werenski but I would try and put the onus on extending Jones somewhere else through a trade. He's been an issue and I guarantee you his camp's idea and Jarmo's idea of what he's worth are far apart. Some people on ACGMs give him around $9 mil... I would say right now he's not worth over $7 mil max</div></div>
Gotcha. I don't know if Leon does push them up that high though. You lose Werenski, and all of the sudden that's a huge hole on the back end that's almost impossible to fill internally.
Jones-wise, I just don't know if you can get the return on him through a trade that you need to for it to make sense. He obviously had a rough year (Not too many BJ's had a decent year...), and I think I'd be more interested in seeing what he can do under another coach. Tort's style obviously never promoted offensive creativity. I think we'll see someone brought in who can get guys like him, Laine, etc. going before we'll actually see any of them traded.
Cheers!
