<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>seanross</b></div><div>I like your thinking but I think your value are way too low. Chiarot could get us at least a 2cnd round pick, if not a first. He’s what a contender look for, a big guy who can play a lot of minutes. Instead of meh prospect, we should go get a first for Toffoli. Petry with retaintion could get us a prospect and a pick. Id also put Poehling on that 3rd line, I dont see anything great about Olofsson. He’s not even an Ahl player.</div></div>

I agree the return value may be low, I did this in 30 minutes with the goal of clearing every player who potentially wouldn't be part of the core for MTL in two to three years.

Chariot for a first would surprise me. It's not exactly the same situation as, for example, what Goodrow was traded for two years ago. As stated in another comment above, Johannesson is really underated. The 6th round pick could be moved up to a 3rd, I might agree.

The ''meh prospects'' are actually playing well right now and will continue to develop. Noah Ellis is a big RHD who can move the puck well, he's gonna play in the NCAA for at least the next two years. Donovan is a big right-handed center with speed and hand hability. Vikman is a 6-2-1 goalie playing in the WHL this year, although he doesn't have the greatest stats it is still an actual tangible return instead of a 5th round or later pick. You could make an argument about another prospect from another team being a better return by himself than those three for sure, but I specifically looked at the VGK prospect pool and that's what, in my mind, would be an acceptable return. The 4th round pick could also be changed for a 3rd.

I am of the pick-a-player-instead-of-a-pick school, meaning that you know what you get with a player right now instead of waiting to see what you can have with a pick two years from now.

Which is exactly what you get with Wanner, a prospect, another big RHD who can move the puck with ease. I changed the 4th round pick to a 2nd, since everybody seems to value Petry more highly. The difference between a 1st round pick and a 2nd round pick from Edmonton this draft year (meaning 20th or more) won't really change much.

Poeling on the 3rd line instead of Evans, I don't know... Maybe if Evans gets injured or plays badly, which for the time being he is very not.

Olofsson has been playing in the SHL, Sweden's elite hockey league, for two years and a half now. I would argue that the level of players between AHL and the SHL are actually closer then most people think. These are real men with real skill playing in Sweden nowadays. Same with the NCAA and the Liiga.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Habs4ever</b></div><div>Although I agree with you, go read some of the comments on RDS. I cannot write in French but I can read it very well. Almost everyday there is a comment about language. It is heavy to always be dealing with that. I knew in 1987 I was leaving Quebec not because I hated the place but because I was tired of the same arguments all the time. In 34 years of living outside of Quebec, my ears have only heard it once that they did not like the people in Quebec, only once in 34 years. Now I am not blind, I know there is currently many people in Alberta that are angry at the pipeline being cancelled and I am reading online that it is perceived as Quebecs fault. But when I speak with my extended family members still living in Quebec, they still complain about the language stuff. Back to hockey, I believe the head coach will be french or bilingual. But there are plenty of French speaking coaches, so for me this is a mute point.

I am going over the 6 goals. 1 empty net, so 5 goals. Of the 5, 3 of them are players picking up the wrong players in their defensive assignments. Price was weak on the 4th goal. But he is getting absolutely slammed by the comments already. If those players pick up the right players, you have no need for the extra attacker and the game finishes 3 to 2 for MTL.</div></div>

Lol, RDS comment sections do not represent the opinion of the majority.

I definitely agree that the language argument gets heavy, and I do have empathy for those it can affect negatively. Im not gonna go into politics discussions here, since this is a hockey forum but to put it simply Quebec province has always been different than the rest of Canada (as the saying goes: "...except in Quebec"), both culturally and in spirit.

Price has and will always be slammed if he can't make a game saving save or lets in more than 3 goals repeatedly in a short span of games (even though the defense in front of him don't do well). He's getting paid 10.5 M$ to do just that.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy739</b></div><div>1. a single season of success followed by nothing is just that. (CHI loaded up on LD in the off seasons knowing he'd go back to regular production)

2. Vedejmo is 1/41 contracted players in a log jam for minutes in Laval . if we had an ECHL team half the roster would be sent down . Either way you dont move him out you mutually terminate sending him back to Europe to develop like WPG did with Vasalainen before bring him back to play in the AHL this year a more complete player .

3. What part of ''babysitter in Laval '' escapes you?
or are you seriously suggesting Kovy,Weber and Gallagher get sent down to mentor the youth ?

Weise has produced on pace with Weal and had an impact .
old or not he's been chosen over perceived better players since his call up .
MTL has started winning to since he has come up as before him we were the joke with two 8 game losing streaks before December was over
Sometimes a spark plug is needed .</div></div>

1. Chicago sport media don't seem to share that opinion, at least what I can find on Gustafsson for this season. Chicago loading up on LD is exactly why he won't resign there.

2. His contract termination possibility and AHL/ECHL balance is not a short term concern. The window for a cup is closing and Vejdemo is not going to be an important piece for the next few years.

3. Babysitter in Laval for a 1 million cap hit, yeah I got that part. Weal and other bottom 6 guys come and go. It just happens to be Weise becoming a UFA this summer.

The spark plug you're talking about is Kovy and the awakening of Petry / Charriot. They aren't perfect, but they really started to contribute offensively. Credit to Julien and the training staff to actually implement a new style of offense-first hockey.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMs</b></div><div>Holy smokes, watch 2 entire Chicago games and you wouldn’t want to trade Kulak for him. He is so bad defensively, not worse than Erik Karlsson but close</div></div>

He's better than Scandella, Mete or Folin both defensively and ofensively. He's -4 , so relatively decent compared to others (Chicago D men average is at +0.4 / league D men average is at + 0.7)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMs</b></div><div>Byron on the 3rd line and Lehkonen on the 4th l m a o</div></div>

Those line combinations aren't poured in concrete, injuries and/or line chemistry would definetly force Julien to mix it up.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy739</b></div><div>What's sad is my biggest objection is really Vedejmo who since coming to NA has lead Laval with Evans almost by themselves as always injured MTL depleted their rosters.
Joel Bouchard talks about Vedejmo in the same way Claude Julien does about Lehkonen since his very first public address after his 1st practice and never stopping . </div></div>

I watched the last ten or so Laval games entirely. Vejdemo just doesn't seem fit for the big leagues. Bouchard might think otherwise but at 23 years old and with an already stacked center prospect pool, I don't think he's worth keeping around.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy739</b></div><div>
i mean obviously not bringing back Weise makes no sense. Young guys love him , Domi called him his '' all time favorite teammate '' recently during Weise's 500th NHL game . signing him for 1-1.2 million with a 500k AHL salary gives us a Babysitter in Laval we can trust and a mentor the kids Respect .</div></div>

1 million for a babysitter who wouldn't play if injuries are low? No thank you. Keep in mind that Kovy, Weber and Gallagher already proved themselves to be the real leaders of this team. You want a good locker room guy who can produce and not slow the rest of the team on the ice.
