Four-Way Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rtapp326</b></div><div>Columbus is pretty happy with the way their team is constructed, so they will want a high-end scoring forward in return for Panarin. Columbus is able to stay on the path of building the roster they want, while each other team addresses a position of need. Plus, Columbus will get something extra back (see description).</div></div>
EDM would basically have to add a 1st, maybe 2019 1st. That would help the value for Panarin but I still don't think Skinner and a 1st is enough.

Garbage Man Scenario
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeyfan5699</b></div><div>Correct me if I'm wrong, but Macgarthur isnt costing them in cap space, but they still are paying him $4.65 mil annually as he is owed right? Although your insured contract point does sound familiar...
The point I was trying to make was moreso OTT cutting actual cost + salary cap because of their budgeted circumstances.
On your # 5 pick point.
So in this scenario, and most, MTL takes Tkachuk at #3 because he's a center(also why I got Zadina at 4), so ARI would be choosing from Boqvist, Bouchard, Hughes, Wahlstrom, Kotkaniemi, etc. if they didn't trade the pick.
Thanks for your comment!</div></div>
There might be very few contracts that are not fully insured in the league. Clowe of NJ was just 80% insured Horton's when he was signed by Columbus had his completed uninsured. Leafs traded Clarkson who playing at the time and took Horton just to say cap space. Horton will cost the Leafs 27.5m out of pocket when it's finished into two years. The only real disadvantage of an LTIR player and it doesn't happen in all cases, it MAY affect a teams ability WHEN they pay their performance bonuses. That's it.
You're right it is an interesting scenario for the # 3 or the Tzachuk selection. Phoenix picking at # 5 might like a quasi hometown boy, Tzachuk....if it means anything. Anyway we'll know if 15 years who made the right selection.

Garbage Man Scenario
Brouwer doesn't need to go that badly that Calgary would only take a bottom end 3rd round pick. Especially with Fox thrown in. I think that Fox should never be used to get rid of a contract, the consensus is that he will be a strong NHL D man, obviously that remains to be seen but if Calgary is going to move him then I think that it will be to acquire an asset and fill a hole as opposed to getting rid of a bad contract. If we can tolerate one more year of Brouwer the buyout process becomes pretty simple and with a new coach hopefully he will see a little more press box time,

Don't know much about the Rangers, but it's a pretty interesting collection of moves. Doubt Karlsson could be afforded though after 1 year.

2nd and 3rd Overall picks, because I love hate comments
First of all the trades are very reasonable.
Trade 1 killer is I don't think Carolina has the $7-10 mill. to re-sign Names and Hayes. All that money would have to come from the owners pocket.
Trade 2 is the most likely trade to be accepted. The only caveat I see is Montreal desperate need for a #1 center. If they think they could do it a 9. Then I could see it happen. Adding Alzer's contract to Smith's and Staal would be ugly at best.
Trade 3 I can't see anyone taking Staal without 50% retention. Then you might even need to throw a 2nd in the deal too.

Remove Shaw, and take Alzner. Remove Spooner and add Tampa's First or Sens 2nd. No hate here, its worth thinking over if the Habs received this offer. I may still not like the trade, but it wouldn't be so terrible.

MTL fans:
NO: Spoon + 9OA won't get you 3OA.
Very tempting= Hayes + 9OA is more fair for 3OA.
Maybe Names + Spoon + 26th OA is OK for 2OA? (But I can't see Carolina trading down.. as they are rebuilding for good)

I like the Hayes deal.
I definitely wouldn't trade Kreider. His combination of speed, skill, physicality is something we need. And he's still young.
Namestnikov, Spooner, and Gilmour all get a little more money. Maybe like 4.7, 4.25, 1.3 respectively.

With the quick rebuild the Rangers are pulling, I don't see the benefit of trading a bunch of assets for Karlsson. There's a pretty good chance New York is somewhere he would consider playing, but even with him, they aren't contenders next year. Might as well wait until he hits UFA and sign him without giving up a lot of good pieces.

Side question: Do u think u can switch the 3rd in the Dallas trade w/ Hanzal? (His NMC becomes modified NTC next year, and the Rangers can take his contract for 2 years, right?)

Florida would probably need to add to ensure salary evens out. Maybe Jamie McGinn? Playing on the 3rd line, making 3.3 per for this and next year

I think the Rangers should take a look at Spooner w/ Kreider. Those two can fly together and force defense to play back.

JTM is VERY good lol. You could use assets from the Kane trade or nylander and sign him to a long term deal.

Dubinsky back to NYR?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeyfan5699</b></div><div>Wow really?
I figured since he's got the higher cap hit Dubi would have the higher hit, but I guess not.
I think the trade could help both team tbh.
Rangers need Centers and CBJ needs a Defender. Torts liked Staal when he was with NYR so I'm sure he'd put in a good word.
I'd love to see this trade go down!</div></div>
it wouldn't be cheaper per se, but for DUBI, it would be a straight 1,950,000 Per year, even if they wait a year, then its 4 years at 1.95 Mill.
Because of Staal's bonus money (3 Million) & Cap recovery factor on his deal, (his salary is LESS then the AAV for the last 3 years so that get's evened out in real cash) Dubi looks like a better buyout in June or even waiting a year.

Rangers did trade McDonagh for cap purposes. If Ottawa wanted to go younger, McDonagh is easily tradeable and will get good return.

One of the more realistic Karlsson proposals I've seen. And the second trade, if nothing else, fill Ottawa's Chris Neil quota.
It's a well thought out idea, kudos.
