Agree.
Why would you give a 33 year old a six year contract?
Also, would Tarasenko go from $7.5 to $5?? Not that I want him either.

Will They Still Be A Playoff Team Next Year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ClockReads2113</b></div><div>For sure. Great center and defensive depth. Only weakness is wingers, especially since Stone can't stay healthy. They might want to think about trading Theodore for a legit top 6 winger.</div></div>
I agree but I think Petro before his age catches up to his play so they can cash in

I wasn't paying attention to UFAs

Good Offseason
lol Leafs trade a 3rd + 5th for Edmundson who was bad
3rd + 6th for Lyubushkin
Then TVR being a much much better player gets far less. Then I imagine the response will be “ he’s a 3rd pairing guy” while playing him on The 2nd pairing.

If it was a player like Hayton then maybe. The caps have too many RHD

Caps decline. We have no need for Soderstrom and that pick is valuable to our future.

Best top 6 in NHL history
A late first and a late second wouldn’t be enough to make up the gap between Zegras and Leonard imo. Leonard is gonna tear up this league. Zegras comes with a higher cap hit, too.

Next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ClockReads2113</b></div><div>I can see the Caps trading their 1st IF the return is a legit young player. Otherwise, no way they move it.</div></div>
Exactly, if the return was like Hayton from the Yotes (Although at this point it seems center is not really an issue anymore) or Marchenko from the Jackets

Next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jazzykiwi</b></div><div>Why? Jensen was linked to TOR at the deadline and the 1st is going to be mid round now and Hronek would be a serious upgrade to the D</div></div>
The others explained it really well.
From my view point Robertson isn't really worth much and doesn't address any of the caps needs. Maybe if it was a first line winger or something along that line it would generate interest, but losing a round in the draft and getting a meah forward in exchange for an anchor defenseman is not smart.
Additionally, Sure Iorio is expendable for the right deal but the capitals will not be getting rid of first round picks for the next couple years, they are actively rebuilding as well as trying to stay in the picture for Ovi so they will move later picks but in no way are they moving a first and a young prospect for one piece.

Tear Down
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ClockReads2113</b></div><div>As a Caps fan I'd love if you traded away Crosby for that but I imagine you can do a lot better than that.
Also, who sign Guentzel if you are tearing it down? Why keep Letand, Malkin, etc? If you trade Crosby you might as well trade everyeone.</div></div>
I don’t think there is a big market for Malkin with that salary. One of my all time favorites, but declining rapidly
I am saying stink for next year, use all that cap space to make playoffs in 26 and 27. Letang still pretty good D, Jake and Crosby reunited for last hurrah.
Maybe with FA signings and draft picks, they’ll only be awful next year

I am not a fan of Roberston so throwing that out there first
That being said, I don't see him worth 2 2nds....even with the 4th and 5th coming back. So Caps would decline (I'd hope).

Yeah this aint SAM'S CLUB.... you dont save when you buy in bulk.
Dowd = late 1st / 2nd + prospect
Lindgren = 2nd ish
Mantha = late 1st / 2nd + prospect
Edmundson = 3rd (market value)
Beck not available if he was i would ask for a 3rd
Basically need to add 1 more 1st and a few prospects / 2nds
