Questions for Caniacs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>amullican</b></div><div>I don't think the Canes view KK as a cap dump and I don't think they're quite ready to give up on him. Because of that and the fact that his buyout is relatively cheap, I don't think they're going to pay a team to get rid of him.</div></div>
Makes sense. There were a lot of posts while they were still in the playoffs and right after they got knocked out where people were calling for his contract to be dumped or bought out. But I think it was reactionary and most Caniac's have calmed down since then. Was just wondering if y'all were still feeling that way about him and his contract. I guess the fans opinions don't really matter, anyway, when it comes down to it. Teams are a business and have to be more level headed than fans generally are.

If Duchene misses out again
Slaggert is easily worth more than Kozak, and, Slaggert being younger and waiver exempt, is arguably worth more than Rousek. He might even be better than Rousek, but that is TBD. So why is CHI adding the higher pick?

A while ago I saw a Marner for Jones trade and if Chicago could get an extension worked out that could work for both teams. The trade I saw had some other pieces but I don't remember what they were,</div></div>
If a Marner extension is left up to the Hawks to negotiate, that trade likely doesn't happen. Marner and his team probably ask for $13m or more, and the Hawks aren't paying that.

A 2nd and a 3rd for a 3rd pair D man? Lilypad isn't replacing Murphy as Korchinski's partner. That pairing would be a trainwreck in their own end. If Lilypad was capable of playing 20+ minutes a night in a top 4 role, he wouldn't be getting traded in every Leafs ACGM on this site. Hawks MIGHT part with a 3rd for him, but certainly no more than that.

BEDARDhawks
If Lily is actually worth a 2nd plus, should that not make him worth keeping around in TOR? The correct answer is, he isn't worth that much and TOR fans want him gone. Even if he is worth that much and still has some untapped potential, I don't see anything about his game that fits KD's vision for CHI's rebuild. CHI declines. Go find a sucker, if you want an overpayment. Maybe Dubas wants him in PIT.

Keep marner away from this team. He wants too much money. Last thing the hawks need is for Bedard to see marner get 12 mil right before he's due for his next contract. That's how you become the Leafs.

i think they should stay the course. you guys have a chance to do something really special, one more year of what its been for the last few years and then go out and sign some free agents. maybe get a guy or two but to try to go for the playoffs now probably wouldnt be the best for their development

Oh I don't see it happening either, but it's still an option on the table and I haven't seen anyone post it up yet.

The idea was due to KD and Co were prepared for 4OA, and took a look at what happened last year. Could Demidov slide down the draft order? If they still want him, risk to trade down.
You might be right with the Calgary 2025 1st rd pick, over the 2025 2nd.

the big shock
Hronek is good. Like really good and he fits a need in Chicago. The thing is that Mikheyev is a cap dump so it takes draft capital or prospects to move him. Oliver Moore was a dream come true for Chicago when he was still on the board with Tampa's pick last draft. He's going nowhere. Tampa's pick this year is another top 20 and will net another top prospect. I don't see the value here for Chicago considering where they're at right now. Yes, Hronek is worth a package like that from a team ready to win now but Chicago's window is not wide open yet.

I kind of like this roster. Well done! I'd say Carolina matches that offer sheet, but not sure they can. Solid UFA signings. Right sort of extension for Vlasic. And this group is definitely better. Nice job on this!

Seeing as Kyle Davidson plans on making some meaningful transactions this summer, I think that makes it a lot more likely that we see guys like Slaggert, Kaiser, and maybe even Nazar and Korchinski, seeing significant time in the AHL. Whatever happens with them, I don't think any of them will have a roster spot handed to them. There will likely be competition. This definitely addresses some of that, but there might be even more, honestly. Probably not any super high profile FA's, but guys that will give young players a run for their money. I like the idea of Marchessault, and Chatfield a lot. I wouldn't mind bringing Domi back to CHI, too.
Regardless, good job! I'm excited for what they are going to do this summer, now, but I'm also a little worried that KD is feeling too much pressure way too soon. But maybe some of it is just lip service, and honestly, CHI wouldn't have been quite as bad this year if it wasn't for the mountain of injuries they had. We'll see, though. Gonna be an interesting summer and season.

Dream boat
Vlasic is getting at least three times that amount, and more than likely with term. He will be CHI's top pairing LD for many years to come, unless of course Korch or another prospect takes some HUGE steps and passes him up, which I don't see happening. Even then, he will be a very solid 2nd pairing guy. Also, Samuelsson is looking like a bad-ish contract for BUF. Not that he is awful or anything, but they might have prematurely signed him for too much money and term.
I could definitely see scenarios where they move on from Allan, Athanasiou, and/or most of our picks, as I could for most players on CHI's current roster, but not to add an LD. That would be a pointless move.
Reinhart will more than likely get more money this summer, and probably isn't looking to join a rebuild at this point in his career. I highly doubt Kane will be back in CHI. I don't mind the Montour signing, though. I think he would be an interesting partner for Korchinski.

Next year can be even better
The only way I think CHI would be willing to acquire Trouba is if he is willing to stop being such an unnecessarily dirty scumbag on the ice and take on more of a mentor/protector role, rather than an enforcer/goon. If so, I think he could be a great mentor to our young dmen, to help them build defensive skills and physicality. But I very much doubt he would be willing to do that. That dude wants to win.

Your take on Jones lacks context and has been proven wrong this season on a historically awful CHI roster.
