If they sent enough money out like in this trade, then yes.
Many Wild fans on here and journalists are not keen on trading for his contract, but whether it’s him or another star player, I think both Kaprizov and the fans deserve another player of that caliber to show the Org is serious about contending after next season. It would still mean the depth of the team suffers for 24-25, but the season will be a holding pattern anyway. With the cap finally going up significantly, the math could work despite the last year of the heavy Parise+Suter dead cap.

Not sure Hartman would waive, but I like that trade from the Wild’s perspective.

Where is the value for the Wild in that trade? Hartman is a cheaper, younger version of Smith who can play center. Bemstrom is a 4th line toss in who they don’t need.

Zegras seems like a possibility, for sure. He seems like he needs a scenery change, and the Ducks can’t pay all those youngsters.

No real need to tell you this it seems, but JEEk is the Wild’s most irreplaceable player besides KK. Granted every player has a price, but I don’t think the Bruins would have the pieces or be willing to match the price for Guerin to entertain a trade for him.

Wild decline the Kings trade, they are already small and Lizotte is tiny. I think they will keep Gus, anyway.

staying competitive
In OP’s defense, I think there is a distinction to be made between the terms competitive and contending. Obviously this team is not contending for the cup, but competitive (in the way I think they meant it: a winning record and making the playoffs) would be an accurate description/goal for 24-25.

Pretty much. Also, Yurov will be playing for Metallurg for one more year.

Fair enough, good reasoning. Would you give two years to Patrick Kane?

Yea no thanks, the Wild don’t have room to sign Necas and fill out the forward group afterwards. More importantly, Yurov could be a star.

Wild say no. Hartman is too versatile and important to the team as evidenced by his extension last fall. Berard is not a fit anyway, the team is already small.

If Guerin values Holtz enough, I could see this as a possibility. Not sure he does though.
How about throwing out the picks, make it Mercer and Schmid for Gus and Rossi?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JayTea</b></div><div>I'm fairly certain Guerin said he was pretty happy with our d at the end of season media appearance, they just had bad luck with injuries. (I disagree for the record, but he's not going to say the quiet part out loud while they're trying to sell season tickets for next year.) That being said, I really can't see them being interested in Chychrun especially not at the cost of a top prospect in the last year they're not going to be able to really compete with so much dead cap. This year they'll likely just roll with what they have and reassess the year after when they actually have some money to spend on upgrades.</div></div>
Agree. If Ottawa wants a higher end prospect like Heidt, then it’s definitely a no-go. If they could offload Spurgeon for a bigger defenseman like Chych (probably not a direct trade, but separate ones) I think they’d absolutely consider it. But yes, the dead cap needs to expire first and Spurg desperately needs to re-establish his value with a healthy bounce-back season if the Wild are to have any chance of trading him.

I think you nailed it, in terms of their ceilings and next season. I think they will want to see what they have in Khustnutdinov over a full year while he is cheap. That will be especially true if they trade Rossi this summer. Unless Ottawa is interested in Rossi himself… though I think they would be trading him for a different promising forward with more size and not a blue-liner. Talk to us next summer!

I think they could be interested in Chychrun but no thanks on trading Riley Heidt, the Wild want to see what they have in him next season… especially if he can play the pivot.

Zucc is reaching his twilight and Kaprizov would probably not sign long term in Buffalo, so they say no.
I really don’t think the Wild would want to do this either. Kaprizov >>> Skinner and is the engine of the team, he just needs one more dynamic forward with him before his contract is up and he will re-sign.

Guerin type offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caerii</b></div><div>I see this sentiment from virtually every fan of the team - why rush to trade Gus in what we know is Fleury's last season? - so I'm really hoping the team feels this way too. I think those that want them to trade Gus have fallen for the story of the HoF Fleury mentoring and tandem’ing with the highly-touted goalie of the future. I was there too, at one point.
But the more I’ve thought on it, the more I realize it would probably not go well enough to live up to what the expectations of this team are (making the playoffs, perhaps winning a round).

Guerin type offseason
I would only do the Zary trade (assuming Calgary wanted to as well).
I would keep Gus. They probably won’t get enough in return anyway due to his most recent numbers… like a 25’ 2nd is probably close to accurate, but it’s piss poor value. Also, do they really want to rely on an age 40 Flower and a rookie Wallstedt (regardless of his stock) to help get them back to the playoffs? I would keep Gus and see if he can re-establish his value. Wallstedt will get more starts regardless due to Flower being in his twilight. Better to ease in goalies, regardless of how highly touted they are.
