Thread: Karlsson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Britishbulldog</b></div><div>I agree with your points.

The thing I am wondering is.....am I the only hockey fan in the world who sees how far Karlsson has fallen? As a Leaf fan in the East Coast of Canada I was forced to watch a lot so Sens games with the Leafs blacked out by the NHL. I would joke about Karlsson but in reality could see how his skating was exceptional. It got him out of all kinds of trouble.

Seeing his Achilles get cut that night by Matt Cooke made me worry. He seemed to almost completely recover and he was still amazing on his edges. This summer with the operations he said in late September when he got on the ice that his ankle was restricted like a piece of leather was on it. He no longer skates on his edges the same.

I think he is done as an elite defense man because without his exceptional skating ability he needs to find passing lanes which he has been horrible at this year. Including last night if you saw the highlights.

I hope the Leafs avoid Karlsson at all costs.</div></div>

Very easy to claim he's fallen, but LOL look at our team. It took Karlsson a full season after the achilles injury to recover, this is the same thing. He's the best defenceman in the world, and superiorly smarter than 99% of players in the league. Once he finds a new balance in a skating technique, and believe me, he will, he's going to win more Norris trophies (even though he should've won the last two). Take it from someone who's watched every Send game this year, he's still the best player on the ice, but it's hard to play when his most common partner is Johnny Oduya. As soon as he plays with a competent partner again, I think you'll realize your opinion here (although very fair and justified) is incorrect.

Bickell had 1 year 4M and had an illness meaning he would never really be able to continue his career.
Martin has 2 years 4.8M (one TDL year though) but is also much older than Bickell was.
Hawks also got a 2nd and a 3rd. To compensate the difference.
A 3rd and a 6th isn't a good comparable to that.
San jose is not nearly in the cap trouble the hawks were in.

Datsyuk was traded with a 1st for a 1st. Not with a 1st alone...

My valuation is still accurate. Your just changing the facts to fit your argument. No cap dump has ever been traded with a 1st round pick for anything that wasn't already a 1st coming back. That's all I said. You are misinterpreting my comment.

Never has a cap dump and a 1st (not former 1st round prospect/youngish roster player) been traded for anything less than another 1st coming back. unless you get into semantics of "cap dumps".</div></div>

If you want to talk about changing facts, Bickell wasn't diagnosed until after the trade was made. A 2nd and 3rd rounder doesn't really compensate the difference either, as Terravainen is likely worth far more than that. Plus, if San Jose is to address their glaring forward depth with the Thorton injury, and still try to win while their window is briefly open (in a weak Pacific division), they're going to need to bring in players, with decently large cap hits (Brassard, Plekanec, etc.), they're going to be in car trouble, and therefore create a need to move the contract that inconveniences them, by moving this potentially high first round pick (therefore not as valuable), to become expendable.
