Realistic and most likely scenario.
Pretty good. Maybe giving up a little too much for that first rounder. Namestnikov and a 3rd should probably do it.

Probably under-selling on Bjugstad a bit. Had a mediocre year, but still talented, Lindgren is meh, so you should be able to bag at least a first for him.

I think the other commenters are undervaluing ROR a bit. That should be a yes from the Hurricanes. On the other hand, I think the Penguins probably value Sheary a bit more than what you have, although the value Imo is probably there in Bealieau.

+/- is the worst tool for player evaluation. Karlsson was, and always will be amazing, and under no circumstance should be traded for Holtby lol. Ceci gets destroyed every time he's on the ice; he brings down the performance of those around him. Brutal player.

The Lundqvist trade is good value, but I don't see Buffalo being in a position to pick him up. Maybe an actual contender in the West or something. Raanta is also likely to fetch more than what you have him here for, he's having a great end to the season.

The Rebuild Plan (Best Scenario)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>lol and why for just a 2nd round pick when you could have much more?</div></div>
Cody Ceci is consistently the worst player on the Senators, and one of the worst in the NHL. At 24 years old, it's hard to see how the Senators or any GM in the league sees value of him. Take a look at some of his states here from Corsica: <a href="http://www.corsica.hockey/player-profiles/?player=CODY.CECI" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">http://www.corsica.hockey/player-profiles/?player=CODY.CECI</a>
You can clearly see that he's actually gotten WORSE every year. Time to cut bait and move on. Recoup whatever asset you can get, but I would seriously trade him straight up for a bag of pucks.

Karlsson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Britishbulldog</b></div><div>I agree with your points.
The thing I am wondering is.....am I the only hockey fan in the world who sees how far Karlsson has fallen? As a Leaf fan in the East Coast of Canada I was forced to watch a lot so Sens games with the Leafs blacked out by the NHL. I would joke about Karlsson but in reality could see how his skating was exceptional. It got him out of all kinds of trouble.
Seeing his Achilles get cut that night by Matt Cooke made me worry. He seemed to almost completely recover and he was still amazing on his edges. This summer with the operations he said in late September when he got on the ice that his ankle was restricted like a piece of leather was on it. He no longer skates on his edges the same.
<a href="https://www.tsn.ca/karlsson-reveals-more-about-ankle-injury-1.868641" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://www.tsn.ca/karlsson-reveals-more-about-ankle-injury-1.868641</a>
<a href="https://www.tsn.ca/karlsson-reveals-half-of-ankle-bone-removed-in-surgery-1.868465" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">https://www.tsn.ca/karlsson-reveals-half-of-ankle-bone-removed-in-surgery-1.868465</a>
I think he is done as an elite defense man because without his exceptional skating ability he needs to find passing lanes which he has been horrible at this year. Including last night if you saw the highlights.
I hope the Leafs avoid Karlsson at all costs.</div></div>
Very easy to claim he's fallen, but LOL look at our team. It took Karlsson a full season after the achilles injury to recover, this is the same thing. He's the best defenceman in the world, and superiorly smarter than 99% of players in the league. Once he finds a new balance in a skating technique, and believe me, he will, he's going to win more Norris trophies (even though he should've won the last two). Take it from someone who's watched every Send game this year, he's still the best player on the ice, but it's hard to play when his most common partner is Johnny Oduya. As soon as he plays with a competent partner again, I think you'll realize your opinion here (although very fair and justified) is incorrect.

I think McDonagh can fetch a lot more than the contract you've offered on the open market. Also, this team is now seemingly in a complete rebuild, so I doubt we make some of these additions. Salary cap is also unlikely to rise $10 million in two years.

Bickell had 1 year 4M and had an illness meaning he would never really be able to continue his career.
Martin has 2 years 4.8M (one TDL year though) but is also much older than Bickell was.
Hawks also got a 2nd and a 3rd. To compensate the difference.
A 3rd and a 6th isn't a good comparable to that.
San jose is not nearly in the cap trouble the hawks were in.
Datsyuk was traded with a 1st for a 1st. Not with a 1st alone...
My valuation is still accurate. Your just changing the facts to fit your argument. No cap dump has ever been traded with a 1st round pick for anything that wasn't already a 1st coming back. That's all I said. You are misinterpreting my comment.
Never has a cap dump and a 1st (not former 1st round prospect/youngish roster player) been traded for anything less than another 1st coming back. unless you get into semantics of "cap dumps".</div></div>
If you want to talk about changing facts, Bickell wasn't diagnosed until after the trade was made. A 2nd and 3rd rounder doesn't really compensate the difference either, as Terravainen is likely worth far more than that. Plus, if San Jose is to address their glaring forward depth with the Thorton injury, and still try to win while their window is briefly open (in a weak Pacific division), they're going to need to bring in players, with decently large cap hits (Brassard, Plekanec, etc.), they're going to be in car trouble, and therefore create a need to move the contract that inconveniences them, by moving this potentially high first round pick (therefore not as valuable), to become expendable.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>Well he hasn't done anything to make you think he'd do this. Technically no GM has. I get sweetening the pot to get rid of a contract you don't want anymore but if ever it gets to the point of needing to include a 1st rounder to do it, the value in gaining that cap space is removed. Its almost exponential. Losing a 1st rounder to get rid of a contract would only be worth its weight in cap space if the contract was 10M+ AAV. The player would have to be a complete mess also.
I get we all like criticizing our/other GM's but even the worst Gm's in the NHL history would realize it would be better to simply buy out the player instead. Heck even trading a good player with high cap even though you still like the player is a better option. That way you still get full value back at least.</div></div>
Stan Bowman traded Tuevo Terravainen (a former first round draft choice) to Carolina, to get rid of the Brian Bickell contract. Detroit also moved draft choices out to clear Datsyuk's contract. Its been done. To move a bad 10m contract, you'd be giving the other team a lot more than a first round pick. I respect your point of view, but I think your valuation of draft selections are a bit off, especially seeing how the San Jose selection would be in the 20+ range.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>If San Jose is willing to move a 1st just to get rid of Martins contract, they might as well just buy him out. There is no reason that justifies losing a 1st just for some cap space. Hertl is the only guy they'll have to give a sizeble pay raise to next year and by next offseason, Martin will only have one year left on his contract which make buying out not too much of a problem.
Trading a 1st for cap space is what bad GM's do.</div></div>
In fairness, Doug Wilson is not a great GM Lol
