The Jets need a Vilardi type more then a Zegras type, then there's the signing factor, WAY better chance for the Jets to extend Vilardi then Zegras.

Could probably keep Monahan at a reasonable term and cap hit, let him be the 2c backup if the rookie doesn't work out this year (just like Namestnikov was this year).

100%. Either one, or both, are capable but real test is whether Matthews, Marner & Nylander can take over playoff games like they do in the regular season

A 2nd would be the want but if it’s a 3rd and a player it can’t be that player.

How are you feeling Jets fans about our prospect pool
I agree the future is bright. However, I think we lack a true star centre coming up, which will be needed if scheifele is moved. Lambert has many issues in his game and it’s easy to see him being moved to the wing as a result. Lucius has injury woes or I would have taken him. And perfetti lacks footspeed and size, not a great combo. While it’s not a top priority, I could see a world where the jets end up with 2 1b centres and lack a 1a. Not the worst problem, but still one.
Similarly, we have lacked a true 1 rd since Trouba and buff left (really went from feast to famine). It should be a top priority to draft a guy like that.
As said above, Chevy needs to move a defencemen before the tdl and get heinola some time. The kid was send back last year cause he wasn’t dominating the A yet, now he’s coming back after running the defence with the moose for a year. It’s ville time. Time to see what he can do in the nhl (and in my opinion, the answer is a lot)

We have a great future in forwards with McGroarty, Lambert, Barlow and Lucius, we also have a great future with OHL goalie of the year and WHL goalie of the year, but in defence, Elias is our only guy I can see in the top 4 one day, Bauer will be bottom pairing, same with ludmark and Chris, that’s the only place that needs to be solved, if a NJ Hellebuyck trade does occur one of Casey or McCarthy needs to be involved or our futures in net will have to be Hellebuyck 2.0, bailing the D out every game, over the course of the retool we need a makeover of the D core and solidify the top 6 and complete a safe transfer of goaltending where quality won’t drop completely over a years time. If Chevy can somehow extend scheif or fleece a team in trade, and do the same for Hellebuyck, these 2 generations of jets could cross and create a team this city hasn’t seen since the WHA days.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Cory</b></div><div>Agreed. The fans here are a fickle bunch and if the team is not"good" they will stop showing up. That is why I feel like Chevy is handcuffed and cannot make deals for the future. This is a small market, if not the smallest in the league and ownership needs to put people in the seats so that Winnipeg can survive here. I think that is why Scheifele and Helle are still here. Teams don't want to give up on roster players for potential rentals were Winnipeg needs NHL players with team control.</div></div>
The biggest problem with the current roster is Poink/Schmidt. One of those guys needs to be moved so Chisholm/Heinola can compete for that spot.

I like it but it all starts with Scheifele and Hellebuyck being moved for good young players and Schmidt/Poink being moved for the Chisholm's and Heinola's to play. I dont care if we arent that great next year as it provides a jump for our young guys to get their feet wet

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Cory</b></div><div>One is 30 and one is 25. His career is just starting. Scheifele is also coming up on 30 if he isn't already. Fredrick is a former 1st round pick. So, yes, the goalie still doesn't hold more value than a Center.
I want to belive Helle will get a massive return, historically I just have nothing to base that off of. I think we will all be disappointed. I also don't think the trade deadline will get much. I cannot honestly ever remember a top tier goalie being moved at a deadline.
As a Jets fan, my first hope would be to re-sign both.</div></div>
I think resigning both is the most probable outcome.

Scheifele and Helle deals
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>I understand your thinking Cory, but there's just no chance the Jets sell that low on Hellebuyck and Scheifele. <strong>They'd be better off just keeping them and letting them walk as UFA's</strong> as that has more value to the Jets than the trades.
Also, according to the insiders, Garland is a free asset, so he should not cost even that much. Taking on his contract for free is good value for Vancouver.</div></div>
If I were to put my money on an outcome, this would be it for Hellebuyck. Goalies are particularly hard to value, hard to maximize return, and are much less frequently traded in-season. Since there is so little cap space available throughout league, Jets probably aren’t getting a ton of bids. And since he has made public he wants huge extension, will be even fewer bidders.

Yeah, I think he stays as well. The "huge extension" part though, I don't think has any affect. What we think is huge and the actual people that are paying the money think is huge are incredibly different. The interested teams will have a fairly accurate idea of what the extension will be and if they want him will comeup with a way to make it fit. So, I don't think rumours of a large ask affect anyone outside of fans as the people involved know the actual story and aren't paying attention to rumours.
I do however think, with Vegas winning, that more teams are leaning towards "team average goaltending can work" and look elsewhere when they find out the acquisition cost and couple it with the extension cost.
