Scheifele and Helle deals

New GM Puts His Stamp
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Cory</b></div><div>Like i said. I like Chabot and you right all guys miss games. He plays basically the one position the Jets do not need any help from. We have Morrissey, Samburg, Dillion and Heinola all trying to claim that spot. Is he in upgrade on 3/4 of those guys yes. Is he an 8 million dollar player, probably not in my opinion.</div></div>
Chabot under a real defensive system and with the right partner is absolutely worth the money. He's a top player who has been asked to do way too much for years
But it doesn't mean that's what the Jets need right now. They should do a mini rebuild now

Easier imo to get a 2nd line winger than a 1st pairing dman who eats 30 mins a night.

What i would do
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Cory</b></div><div>Do you think their is just no interests in him from Buffalo or Buffalo just isn't willing to part with picks or prospects?
Here was my thought process and feel free to correct me on it.
Demelo = UPL
Hellebuyck = Middelstadt (figure he will always be a 3rd liner) Ostlund (prospects potential unless named McDavid, Crosby, Matthews are always unknown) the 1st will be a high pick if they make a run in the playoffs.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>He's still 30 and a pending UFA who wants a huge deal</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>masterjuddi</b></div><div>I think it's fair as long as there is an extension in place for Bucky that isnt north of 9. Casey has been a 3rd liner in BUF, UPL is still unproven and Noah has yet to make his NHL debut
Bucky's value is being undervalued terribly on this site. He's a 3 time vezina finals and one time winner. He's a top goalie still in his prime and should be valued as such.
Bucky makes Buf a playoff team, which is something sabers fans should be excited out. making this deal for him should be a no brainer. I still want him to stay in the Peg.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Cory</b></div><div>Me too. I would much rather keep him and give him his 9 mil a year than trade him. I just wouldn't go anything over 5 years.</div></div>
This is way to much for aging goalie who will want a huge deal. If they wait till deadline value will be much lower because at that point everyone will know if he is even willing to resign and if they dont trade him they will lose him for nothing. If you look at past huge goalie trades Ryan miller is an example. Miller who was the best goalie in the league at that time and signed 5 year deal was trade with steve Ott for goalie who wouldnt play for sabres (halak), Chris stewart (similar to OTT so wash), Carrier ( B prospect), late 1st and 3rd.
In the trade you proposed sabres getting another dman which they have 10 NHL dman on roster. For you cost controlled center who put up 60 points playing thrid line minutes and limited PP time. When thompson was hurt in the end of the year played on top line and averaged over PPG. Young starting goalie. One of the sabres top propsects (in one of the deepest forward pools) and a first.
The value is not even close. they would be lucky to get half of that. if you compare it to miller deal. It would be Rusek, first and third for Helly.

But, I do understand why you wouldn't want Schmidt. Your team already has players on ridiculous contracts (Foligno, Jones and Perry) Blows my mind that they could of had both signed to close to league minimum yet threw the bank at them.
What are they thinking? I get they want veterans for the prospects, but it just doesn't make sense to me.</div></div>
I don't know much about Zhilkin, but Hawks GM Kyle from Chicago has yet to make a trade where he gets a prospect from another team as a key part of the deal. He prefers to acquire picks and select his own guys.
Yes, Hawks overpaid both Foligno and Perry. But both guys fill a need for the Hawks and those deals got them above the cap floor. Both deals are for one year and don't prevent the Hawks from making additional moves if they want.

Debrincat extended barely got a 1st.
I’d be very happy with this return for Helly + Melo. Krebs and Ostlund are worth more than a 1st.
I’d prefer to move Helly to NJ for a package built around Holtz + Vanecek + 24 1st though.

I actually think the Meier trade was an overpay, at least at the time of the trade.
Was assuming (and still kinda am) that the conditions on the 2024 pick will hit combined with Zetterlund playing out of his mind at that time, and Mukhammadulin and Okhotiuk both taking some serious strides towards becoming NHLers leads me to think that Grier did quite a good job in the return he got for a 26 year old winger with a 10m QO.
It's a quantity type of deal and the assets being dealt from the Devils are ones that they had in excess, particularly LHD prospects, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Grier walking away with 4 bonafide NHLers here, two of which could be playing regularly in their top 4 or top 6.

No, it's misinformed speculation based on very, very limited information. There's absolutely no substance to it.
The issues reported in WPG were outright said to be from Wheeler and Maurice both being overly hard on Laine. The only thing Scheifele ever did was not defend Laine, which was fair because Laine didn't defend on the ice and is what was causing the whole confrontation. It's ridiculous to think that two professional athletes would hold a petty grudge towards each other over one of them simply being coached and confronted by his captain about his play, and the other player not stepping in to defend him (when it was not even warranted).

Vanacek gets a bad wrap tbh, Right now he's better than schmid and he's going to be a .915 goalie for a long time. He's not going to win any vezinas but he's going to give you slightly above average goaltending for a long time

I really don't want to lose Pinto, but it's pretty well accepted that that'd have to be the price to get Hellebuyck. but tbh I just don't quite see the fit for Ottawa. you're forced to pay Helle 8+ if he's even willing to extend, which would mean Debrincat is definitely gone, as well as losing Pinto in the deal. I'd rather Ottawa just look at cheaper 1B options in case Forsberg can't return to form after injury. I acknowledge that Pinto would probably be the price to get Hellebuyck if the Sens were seriously pursuing him, though

Can Vilardi play Center? I think if he can I would slot him in the 1C spot and I think that Lowry could take on and succeed in the 2C slot.
Hellebuyck trade looks okay but I would try and get Krebs and a 1st instead of Mittelstadt.
Not sure of Sanheims value so I won't comment on that one.</div></div>
I would move mittelstadt first, I like Krebs game a lot more. I don't see out gm trading 13oa, and since I don't want any part of hellebuycks next contract, I wouldn't offer 13oa for one year either.

By the way, I am also a big Devils fan, so I am torn here. I know that Hellebuyck is the only reason the Jets make the playoffs, and I have watched him live steal countless games all on his own. On the other hand, I am not sure New Jersey can offer what the Jets need to move him there.</div></div>
Unless Fitzy feels like he cannot sign Meier and trades him for Hellebuyck, I don't see it either
