They sure are rolling. Glad Dubois is gone, don't feel the same way about Wheeler. Know him personally from attending social events together and he is one hell of a good person. Personally, I think he was very mistreated in Winnipeg at the end and was used as a scapegoat.

Any goalie can get hot in the playoffs, backup or not. Lyon's in Florida did very well last year. Georgiev was a career backup in New York and his last year with them had a 898 save percentages until he was traded to Colorado. Guys are in the NHL for a reason and have the capabilities of being good.
But you are correct. If the Jets are down to their 3rd string goaltender, they are in some trouble.

I say do nothing but add depth. How many teams in recent years do better when they mess with team chemistry and add a big name. Rangers would be the perfect example last year.

Perhaps, pretty sure Chisholm gets waived next year and I personally don't believe a 3rd is a lot. I don't see how you think we have a better goalie in the system.

They are strictly depth trades. They only play in event of injuries. All playoff teams need backups.

Grade 3 needs surgery and usually takes 4-6 months. Travis Zajac came back just over 4 months. Max Jones, Mat Dumba took a little longer. Other cases have varied from 4-10 months.
Dougie had surgery, so is at least grade 3. The most optimistic window would be mid-March. Regular season ends April 15, which would be around five months.</div></div>
That's what I thought. CBSSports.com says at least Feb 15th. Which is very vague.

I'd take him if the price was reasonable, but for what you're talking I hope the Jets pass. The team that does pay that, will regret it undoubtedly.</div></div>
Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect yours. In my opinion, I have watched a few Flames games, not many, but have been impressed with his never quitting on a play and always getting in the dirty areas. That is what I think the Jets need. Maybe the price is high, maybe not. I honestly don't know value of any player as the market always shifts.

I am by no means a Flames fan. But I do believe Tanev is just what the Jets need and a high 1st is not that much to give up for him. I have been a Moose and Jets season ticket holder for many years. The hype around Heinola is grossly exaggerated. He is not a good dman thus why he hasn't made the team yet. He may become one, but he is not there.
I for one would be upset if he goes for this and we do not even try. While he doesn't put up huge points. The guy is a warrior out there and never quits on a play. I think that is the type of player we need for a deep run in the Central.

Agreed, it is. The way I look at is. Does he make us better for a playoff push? Is he considerably better than one of Schmidt, Heinola or Stanley. I would say, much better. I think he is going for a first either way. Do we want to pay a pick which will probably be i the 20-25 range. Sadly, I don't see Heinola working out here, so use him as currency if you can.

Retention could and probably would be there. i just have no idea what that would be. I don't think it is an overpay. Sure he is a rental, but does any one in Winnipeg at this point think Heinola has a future here? Tanev is a good solid right shot dman that the Jets so desperately need. He is also a physical minute muncher that could bring big dividend to the D.
It is a lot, but I think that is where his value will be.

3.75 mil is expensive for a guy who can bring an element of toughness back to a team that are severely missing since Buf left? I don't think a single team out there would say that he is expensive and not valuable to a team.

Moving on from Mark
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>A lot of things doesn't work for Ottawa here :
- Center is really NOT a position of need with Stutzle, Norris, Pinto (+ Greig and Ostapchuk if there was a spot in the future)
- Sens don't have cap space, they can't ADD more salary
- Scheifele is really NOT the type of player the Sens need to add (all offense, no defense)
- Sens didn't want to trade Pinto for Chychrun (and DeBrincat I believe), which were more team needs. Why would they trade him now for an UFA to be that they don't need?
- Sens might not be very interested in trading another 1st round pick after they didn't have one for 2 years (3 if you count Boucher, which I do), particularly for an UFA-to-be
- If a small % of the rumors about Scheifele are true, he's really not the type of character the Sens would target
- Also wouldn't make sense for them to trade a young player for a 30 y/o who will want a huge contract that will make him overpaid in the near future
- No spot/interest in Stanley as well
Let's say you think Scheifele is an upgrade on Pinto, which he would be OFFENSIVELY, but then you have either him or Norris as the 3rd line center? That'd be quite the waste... Plus, there's already not enough PP time to share with everybody. Sens need to get better defensively, not worse.
Yes they are both vets but that's where the comparison stops, Giroux is a premium 2-way forward, aging like fine wine too
Scheifele is UFA-to-be and quite overrated (always among the worst defensive metrics). Any team paying a 1st (that could be anywhere) and a young player like Pinto will regret it. Plus there's no garantee he'd re-sign there
Even if there was cap space to acquire him, I wouldn't dangle any of Pinto, Greig, Kleven, 1st round picks.... It would be lower tier assets</div></div>
These defensive stats talk needs to be looked at a whole lot better by people if they are going to make false claims. The guy is a career + player in the NHL. Yes, the past 2 years have been a slide for him, but on a really poor defensive team. He is also the guy who sometimes slots in on the 4th line and that line gets beat up a lot because of lack of depth. He was also not that bad compared to others.
Jordan Kyrou -38
Johnny Gaudreau -33
Alex Debrincat -31
Nicklas Backstrom -25
Patrick Kane -22
Ryan O'Reilly -21
Alex Ovechkin -16
Mark Scheifele -16
These are all prominent players in the NHL and only Ovechkin scored 40 + goals last year and all of these players made more than Scheifele. Their are a ton more, but I will leave that for everyone to look up on their own.

Ottawa already has there Scheifele in Giroux. They do not need more veterans on the team. This team is going to be moving up the rankings pretty soon with what they have. They could possibly need an upgrade in Goal, but time will tell if Korp can handle it.
