Matt Niskanen fixing the D
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PleaseBanMeForMyOwnGood</b></div><div>Well I will admit his past season was better than the 3 before it but we are talking about a guy turning 34 this year vs a guy turning 24 this year. How many years of good production do you think these two players have ahead of them? Dermott likely has at least 10 more productive years than Niskanen. Throwing away potential NHLers for current NHLers sometimes makes sense but throwing away the entire career of a legit NHL. Dermott was better last year and the year before than Niskanen from an advanced stats point of view but Niskanen had a nice bounce back with the Flyers. Still I would never move a 24 year old entering his prime for a guy who at best has 2 or 3 years of usefullness.</div></div>
It's completely understandable for Toronto to dislike this trade because of age. I was just arguing the fact that Niskanen is still pretty good as a 1st pairing d-man and he is in fact better than Dermott.

We're not moving Niskanen. He's been the perfect fit for us and he is really underrated at age 33.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PleaseBanMeForMyOwnGood</b></div><div>Does this trade also come with a time machine that gives us Niskanen from 5 years ago? Because he's been declining for a few years now and probably isn't better than Dermott is right now. I love how most of the fans on here think a guys rating on Chel is 100% accurate and players never decline with age.</div></div>
According to his numbers and advanced stats he is playing the way he did five years ago and he is better than Dermott right now.

Trading Scoring to Fill Holes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Random2152</b></div><div>If Philly turned that offer down, the entire front office would be fired immediately. Literally everyone.
OP that is a terrible trade wtf. That 2nd trade is only better in that it isn't mind numbingly terrible - just bad.</div></div>
One middle-six forward, two top-four defensemen > One top-six forward, one middle-six forward, one defenseman not even NHL ready yet
That doesn't even help with the Flyers needs. The last thing we want are more forwards. Myers is our only young and promising right-handed defenseman and Sanheim is our best option for our left side on our second-pairing. Makes absolutely no sense to give away two defensemen we do need in return for two forwards we don't need. If anything the entire front office would be fired for accepting that deal :tearsofjoy

I think Seth Jones is a bit overrated, but this doesn't get you him. He's their top pairing d-man and they are not really looking to trade him. It would have to be something beyond his value if you want to get him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>littlejerryseinfeld</b></div><div>LOL. So without Tavares taking up 11 million, marner takes less for longer term? LMAO</div></div>
Yes, because Dubas's unique cap system started with Tavares. Matthews based his contract off of what Tavares was getting and of course Marner then asked for Matthews money. Without the Tavares signing, Matthews probably goes for what Eichel got, even though he lives up to $11.64M as of today. I don't think Marner would have gone down to $8Mx8years, but his cap hit would be under $10M.

Lottery Win - Philly Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jetman</b></div><div>Yes, you are correct...Couts defends better cuz he is a 2 way C...not a high scoring winger.
My thought on this original trade was that Philly had 3 or 4 good Centers and that we could do a trade with that. The Jets want a good centerman that has a left shot.
Yes, Couturier is a great 2 way center so his advance stats are crazy but his trade value is slightly deminished when Connor is at the other end with the contract lengths. Connor is a great winger in his own right and is only 23.
I see their values being similar but if you think Philly needs Giroux, Patrick, Hayes and Couts to play C/wing, then fine but I would have thought that you would rather a high scoring winger than an over abundance of centers.</div></div>
The Flyers are a win-now team. Couturier is on pace for 26 goals and 70 points as a two-way center. Kyle Connor is on pace for 44 goals and 84 points. Even though Connor had the better offensive side, it doesn't make up for Couturier's defensive skills. Keep in mind that Connor is a winger and Couturier is a center. If Coots was a winger or less defensive-minded, he'd probably get close to or maybe even pass Connor's totals. Couturier is the better player now and his role is unfillable. It's definitely helps the Flyer's long-term outlook, but we're a win-now team and we want to go for the cup in the next two years. But yes, Connor probably does have more value because of his contract and age.
I think Morgan Frost is a good target. He's young, and he'll be a good playmaker for your second line. You probably want a younger guy anyway since the Jets aren't a win-now team yet IMO.

I never knew he was a penalty killer. I think I went too hard on him when I said he "can't play defense." He's not awful, but I don't believe he's too great according to advanced stats. If you think he's a good all round player, then I'll take your word for it. Either way he doesn't get you Couturier because I know for a fact that he defends better.

Well of course, because we will be moving out the player that is better than him. Honestly, there might be a player or two that is better or going to be better than him just because Kyle Connor can't play defense. His advanced stats aren't great.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jetman</b></div><div>The Jets also don't want to have Connor, Ehlers and Lafreniere on the left side playing with one good centerman
Per my post above, Philly is one team that have a glut of decent centers....</div></div>
We do in fact have a lot of decent centers. Does that mean we should give away our best one? The only center that <em>may</em> be available is Morgan Frost.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jetman</b></div><div>Yes, thats why you jump up two rounds in the draft to get a 2nd rounder....Sanhiem is also a add in to my main goal of getting a 2C.</div></div>
Couturier is a 1C. Going up two rounds in the draft doesn't help us when we're in win-now mode and that has little increase in value. I don't know what you mean by Sanheim is an "add in," but you're not getting him either.

Couturier is untouchable. I can understand why the value is there because Connor has term on his contract, but Couturier's advanced stats show he is by far better. Also, Sanheim is better than Niku.

Devils are in a rebuild right now. Hischier turned 21 in January and Dumba turns 26 in July. You don't trade your younger guys for older ones. Hischier is probably having a down year this season and and he's still young. He's going to grow into a better player as he develops and as the Devils get better. Also, the Devils don't need to dump Subban if they're not desperate of that extra cap space.
Boldy, Greenway, and the picks are nice, but they won't get you to Hischier.

KK isn't the player they thought he'd be, plus Suzuki is better than they thought he'd be. And they have the 8th overall pick in the 2020 draft - if they select one of the excellent centers that will do in that range - Rossi, Perfetti, Lundell - then maybe they see KK as expendable. Never mind if they win 2nd or 3rd overall in the lottery.</div></div>
Yeah, but he'll only turn 20 in May. I never understand why two season determines a player's career. It never makes sense to sell low on a player when it's possible to sell them higher.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafs_and_Sens_Fan</b></div><div>The thing is Konecny only has 1 good season where he has shown this level of production. Marner has multiple.</div></div>
So we just give up on Konecny just because we're getting a better player with less value? Yes, he has less value because of his contract.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafs_and_Sens_Fan</b></div><div>The skill level is the compensation.</div></div>
No it's not. Marner is on pace for 93 points and Konecny is on pace for 76 points. Konecny is a better goal scorer and has better advanced stats for this year. I'm not paying almost $5.5M for a 17 point differential lmao
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FloppyBiscuit</b></div><div>What about Marner + Dermott RFA rights for Konecny + Gostisbehere? Would still clear cap for Toronto, but I guess Philly would be getting both of the more desirable pieces unles TOR thinks Gostisbehere can return to form.</div></div>
Probably not. Dermott would be on our third pairing, just like Gostisbehere for when he plays. There is probably a team out there that can have Ghost crack the second pairing, and definitely for Dermott. However, it will only open a little bit of cap space and it definitely won't compensate for the Marner and Konecny swap.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>FloppyBiscuit</b></div><div>Niskanen seems like he could be a good target to include for Toronto</div></div>
He's still a steady 1st pairing guy for this year and probably next year. Niskanen has been underrated this year.
