Laughton
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gretzkyghosts</b></div><div>At the age of 24 Laughton played in 188 NHL games and scored 19 goals and 47 points.
At the age of 23 Krebs played in 188 NHL games and scored 19 goals and 59 points.
In two years Krebs will be a younger, cheaper Laughton, while Laughton will not be a Sabre.
This is a very bad trade for Buffalo</div></div>
Not necessarily. .
Fundamental difference here is that one guy (Laughton) saw his ice time increase steady by his age 23 season, where as Krebs has since his ice time reduced and has gone backwards. He hasn’t been given a bigger role and more minutes and has been stuck with Girgensons and Okposo for the past year and a half.
As you said, Krebs is the player that you hope Laughton can be, actually, to be fair, you hope he can be more than Laughton, but Laughton is a realistic goal.
The problem is with Krebs, while he may have similar numbers to Krebs up to his age 23 season, Laughton took off afterwards and maintained a steady upward trajectory as a 30-40 pt third line winger, but he was able to do that when he went from 11 to 14-15 mins a night.
But with Krebs, for some reason, has seen the opposite. His ice time has been reduced since he’s been here and for some reason, the coaching staff and Granato has not been willing to promote him.
What it comes down to is, do you want to expedite the process of Krebs someday becoming a solid third liner, or is he destined to be a fourth line forward forever?
With Laughton, you know what you’re getting, and the Sabres are not in a position to wait for potential anymore.
If anything, the trade is not enough to get him, because Krebs is no longer worth the first rounder it will take to get Laughton.

Pass. Grizz plays on 1st pair. ZG would sit in the press box.
No interest in downgrading.
Boston has a guy who does the same thing ZG does only better and cheaper in Prov.

Well they likely wouldn’t even consider trading Andersson UNTIL Hanifin actually did get signed
And even then,
I would think they’d wanna build around both of them

CGY wouldn’t do it
Can’t afford to if they’re also trading Tanev & Hanifin
I think we should target Matt Roy or maybe Demelo as UFAs this summer

(ANA/PHI) - Drysdale, 2025 2nd (ANA) for Gauthier
I think him skipping development camp was an early sign that it wasn't going to be a fit which is interesting considering how he shot up the board under the old command. Keith Jones mentioned before he started the blueline needs to improve and Drysdale is going to be there man. No other defensemen in the system besides Bonk and Andrea with Walker/Seeler certainly being sold off at the deadline. Gauthier is a sick player, hard to see him go but figure it is a positional need and with Michkov in the system, it makes sense. Hope this isn't a future Hall/Larsson trade but even then, I like the new front office making aggressive moves.
Edit: well he was going to refuse to sign so that's a solid return compared to a compensation 1st round pick in like 2030.

Probably means Anaheim takes Levshunov at this years draft
It's too early to decide a winner right now but it's going to be very interesting to see how this trade plays out in the years to come

id be surprised if RJ went down, his usage indicates granato thinks at least enough of him to be a regular nhler right now. Otherwise this is probably accurate. Bryson probably gets waived at some point. Then you have to waive one of Jost/Robinson.

Very fast, good on the penalty kill but has stones for hands and cant score on the chances his speed creates.

Chicago Blackhawks signed Andreas Athanasiou (2 Years / $4,250,000 AAV)
Since others have commented on the matter, I'll say this. A lot of people know that with the FA class being weak in terms of top end players, and in terms of total options, it's a sellers market. We are going to see a lot of anchor contracts handed out this summer. That being said, this contract isn't one of them. Is the cap hit a bit high? Maybe. 2 years is nothing to Chicago though. This deal doesn't hurt them in the slightest. With oodles of cap space, an extra 1-2 million spent overpaying for AA is nothing. Good deal. Glad Andy gets some short term stability, and Chicago get's a top 6 player for them and someone to carry weight for their (currently) brutal roster.

Trade Deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>poeticentropy</b></div><div>ah didn't see the 5 games in hand, that's big.
SJ isn't going to let Meier go at a UFA value when they can and want to resign him. The values I'm considering are ones with extensions because that situation maximizes SJ's return. BUF and NJ have the space to do an extension around $9m and that's the reported starting ask, not 10m</div></div>
I'm sorry, I didn't explain very well. My understanding is that he could elect to accept his qo (qualifying offer), which means he would make 10 million for one year, which would be his last year as an rfa, making him a ufa. So it would be vital that any team moving a ton for him- know that they can extend him. I didn't mean that his extension would be 10 million per year. The qualifying offer thing is something for rfas in their last year of team control. I don't remember all the rules, but I don't think you would wanna pay a crazy amount if it meant you only had him for this year and next.

I think it'll take more to wedge Grier off resigning Meier. Have seen Holtz from NJ. Morrow or Drury from CAR. Not saying BUF makes these guys available because they may not have that kind of interest in Meier.

(VAN/NYI) - Horvat for Beauvillier, Räty, conditional 1st
Vancouver did surprisingly well here, even with the pick protection.
New York… not so much, and the fit is weird. They better hope they can make the playoffs to convince Horvat to sign an extension.
Edit: It's also hilarious that Lou Lamoriello is the one who traded the 9 OA pick that became Horvat in 2013.
