Thread: Laughton
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gretzkyghosts</b></div><div>At the age of 24 Laughton played in 188 NHL games and scored 19 goals and 47 points.
At the age of 23 Krebs played in 188 NHL games and scored 19 goals and 59 points.
In two years Krebs will be a younger, cheaper Laughton, while Laughton will not be a Sabre.

This is a very bad trade for Buffalo</div></div>

Not necessarily. .

Fundamental difference here is that one guy (Laughton) saw his ice time increase steady by his age 23 season, where as Krebs has since his ice time reduced and has gone backwards. He hasn’t been given a bigger role and more minutes and has been stuck with Girgensons and Okposo for the past year and a half.

As you said, Krebs is the player that you hope Laughton can be, actually, to be fair, you hope he can be more than Laughton, but Laughton is a realistic goal.

The problem is with Krebs, while he may have similar numbers to Krebs up to his age 23 season, Laughton took off afterwards and maintained a steady upward trajectory as a 30-40 pt third line winger, but he was able to do that when he went from 11 to 14-15 mins a night.

But with Krebs, for some reason, has seen the opposite. His ice time has been reduced since he’s been here and for some reason, the coaching staff and Granato has not been willing to promote him.

What it comes down to is, do you want to expedite the process of Krebs someday becoming a solid third liner, or is he destined to be a fourth line forward forever?

With Laughton, you know what you’re getting, and the Sabres are not in a position to wait for potential anymore.

If anything, the trade is not enough to get him, because Krebs is no longer worth the first rounder it will take to get Laughton.
