His salary and age offset that.

That's interesting. Would suck for Pickles to leave, but that is a solid return.

However, if he's really that inclined to sign with the Flames then why not trade him and make it a a win-win scenario. Let him try and win a Cup with his good buddy Nylander and then he can sign with the Flames in the offseason.</div></div>
the guy just returned from 1.5 years away due to his mental health. I'm mot sure trading him and uprooting his life is a good idea. Toronto would also be the worst place for him to go, you know someone like Steve Simmons would do his best to tell the world all the details of Kylington's mental health

Perfect TDL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stavros99</b></div><div>Liljigren is garbage? Leafs lose this trade in the long-term bud. And he's easily worth a late 1st rounder, which seems to be the asking price for Tanev. The rest of the package should be more than be enough for the retention and Kylington, though I'm high on him, shouldn't take much to acquire after being out of the league for so long.</div></div>
On the surface you might be right, but Kylington is likely to re-sign in Calgary as he's been very outspoken about being loyal to teh team because of the way they stood by him during his mental health crisis. So I actually think both teams lose this trade long-term

Campbell and Ceci
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BruceBanner</b></div><div>I don't see Ceci as a dump, he has a similar tofu le to Tanev play but not as reliable. A definite downgrade.
But 2 * 1rst, Broberg and Ceci and Campbell for Tanev and Marky. I think it's close, but maybe Oilers add another B prospect...Calgary needs to fill the cupboard with guys that are on the cusp of NHL or are quality prospects. MAYBE RAPHAEL LAVOIE</div></div>The Flames also have to consider PR, Treliving is still getting raked over the coals by Flames fans for giving up a 1st to get rid of Monahan, bailing the Oilers out of a terrible long-term contract is not going to sit well in Calgary unless the deal is undeniably good for Calgary, because Campbell is owed more than double what Monahan was when he was traded.
The only way a deal like this doesn't have fans lined up with pitchforks is to get a 1st+ for Markstrom, to get a 1st or a 2nd + a real good prospect for Tanev and at least the value of 2 first round picks to take Campbell. Basically it would have to hurt the Oilers enough that their fans would be the ones with pitchforks.
A smarter deal would be a 3-way. with say the Sabres. Flames retain 50% on Tanev, the Sabres retain another 25%, Oilers send Ceci, a 1st in 2024 and a 4th in 2026 to Calgary and a 3rd in 2025 to Buffalofor the extra retention. Then Markstrom goes to Edmonton for Skinner and Holloway. I think that would be relatively fair.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BruceBanner</b></div><div>Haha. Ya. Oilers would need to give more for that package...likely Broberg.</div></div>
I think much more than that. Calgary would be taking on nearly $15m in salary between Campbell and Ceci, I don't know the going rate for cap dumps but that has to be at least a couple 1st rounders.

My knowledge of Francouz is limited, as I am sure yours of Rittich is as well (as is the nature of fandom, we know our guys better), so I will add some information regarding Rittich and that is that each of the past 2 years, he has been injured in the 2nd half and that has really hurt his numbers. In 2018-19 he was hurt in the NYE game and last year around the ASG. I believe his durability is more of a question to him being a starter than his ability IMO.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Brad21</b></div><div>I guess.</div></div>
Look at it this way, we're not getting either a top 6 forward or even a first round pick back. In this example we are trading away a cost controlled 23 year old top 4 defenseman for a 3rd liner with ppg production that falls between Dube and Mangiapane. But unlike Dube and Mangiapane, he's neither a late bloomer nor a rookie, and already has 180 games under his belt. Nathan Beaulieu who is a 3rd pairing defenseman. Mathieu Perreault, a declining winger that only scored at a 25 point pace last season and has a cap hit of over 4m, heck we aren't even getting compensation to eat his cap hit. Oh, and a 2nd round pick, that will probably fall around 50th. That is a terrible, terrible package, it's worse than what we got for Phaneuf.
Hanifin is a piece you can likely use to bring in a legitimate top 6 forward if you choose to move him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>How are Forsberg and Granlund worse than Gaudreau and Ryan</div></div>
As much as you like to claim Forsberg is just as good as Gaudreau, it is a bold faced lie; Gaudreau is significantly better than Forsberg. Forsberg might be a more complete player, but he's never even had a 65 point season and he's not that much more complete. That trade is absolutely terrible for the Flames. And "instant Swedish chemistry" as a reason is about awful of an excuse I have ever seen to do a terrible trade.
As for Granlund/Ryan, Last season they were separated by 1 point and Granlund's point totals have fallen in 3 consecutive seasons now. While Ryan is by far a more complete player and losing him weakens our center-ice position too much and hurts our penalty kill. Losing what Ryan brings is not worth the giant question mark that is Granlund.

I'd say it's not close to okay because it's a bunch of spare parts for a guy we are hoping can grow to replace Giordano on the top pairing in a couple years.
