Purely an expansion draft preparatory move, Shesterkin is exempt and Georgiev will be protected

Cap and that second year are a bit iffy for a 35+ player, but seeing him in red again is a blast. Yzerman really pressing the throwback button here!

How did Vesey fetch a significantly lower return than Burakovsky, who had 25 points each of the last two seasons? GM’s confuse me.

I loved him when he played for New York. That’s a magical return considering they basically paid Namestnikov and a low second to get him.

I guess I’ll be rooting for the Stars and Lightning these coming playoffs.
But tbh, that return is pretty underwhelming. It’s unlikely either of those conditions will be met. A first rounder alone would’ve done just fine.

(OTT/CBJ) - Duchene, Bergman for Abramov, Davidsson, 2019 1st and a conditional 2020 1st round pick
Ottawa salvages a pretty good return. Jarmo putting all his chips at the center of the poker table. Bold move for a team that isn’t even in a playoff spot as of now and has no primer on what will happen with Bob and Bread Man.

(NYR/VAN) - Mazanec for 2020 7th RD pick
What a mess Vancouver is. They could've made this deal (or something of this caliber) as soon as Demko got hurt. But because they had noone to bring up to the NHL and Markstrom got injured, they had to put in a poor DiPietro to get lit up like a Christmas tree. I’m surprised the Rangers couldn’t squeeze out more, Gorton must’ve felt bad.

Slight overpayment on the side of the preds. But they get playoff experience, so it shows that they really wanted him (rather than the devils pushing to sell him off).

Yeah, they now need to trade him or Marleau to even have an inkling of a shot of signing Marner, Matthews, Kapanen, and Johnsson. Someone needs to give Dubas a math lesson.

McPhee clearly investing, cause he thinks that this group of guys will return to the cup final every year. I dont think that will happen, and he’s definitely not worth 6M to me. McPhee handing out connys like candy canes

(TOR / DAL) - 2019 7th round pick for Carrick
To sign nylander, this is not enough. There is no way they can sign nylander to a longterm deal without getting into cap hell or parting with one of the members of their new triumvirate. They need to move marleau and horton’s horror of a contract, but I doubt thered be any takers without the leafs having to give up loads of picks and stuff.

Stacked in the sense that a good team (either the Panthers or Sabres) will miss the playoffs. Although the division has two of the three worst gms the world has ever seen...

Imo, the Atlantic is so stacked that the Sabres might barely miss out on the playoffs. I predict a 4th or 5th place finish in the Atlantic.

New York Rangers signed Kevin Hayes (1 Year / $5,175,000 AAV)
As a Rangers fan, I feel Hayes is a decent player, but definitely not a 5 mil+ per year guy. Therefore, it’s good they signed him for one year rather than putting themselves in straitjacket.
P.S. They should’ve given the Lightning Hayes rather than Miller in that trade. Any sane Rangers fan would rather have JT Miller.

Buffalo gets a hefty haul, but I think the first and second are more like tokens of gratitude for taking on Sobotkas and Berglunds iffy contracts. Blues get a guy who albeit overpaid wins faceoffs and backchecks, great player. I still think that Buffalo wins though, because of the inclusion of Thompson.
