3 way with Ottawa and Boston
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>athrin</b></div><div>seems OTT has giving permission to teams to talk to Stone and his agent about possible extensions.</div></div>
If thats the case and he agrees to some kind of terms I would assume that his value would start at 2019 1st, 2020 1st, an "A" prospect, and a "B" prospect. I dont know other teams prospect systems well but a package similar to:
-2019 1st
-2020 1st
-Studnicka/Vaakanainen
-Zboril
I don't think Boston would be willing to send that package, but I would assume he would pull in a similar return.

If it is known he will re-sign he will get a HUGE return. So far though he has been pretty non-committal, until that changes he is viewed as strictly a rental.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>athrin</b></div><div>Stone is on a whole other level to Duchene or any players traded so far this year and would not be a pure rental on NYI as they have the space to keep him.</div></div>
I agree that Stone is significantly better, but break down what they actually got in return for Duchene. They basically upgraded a bottom-6 prospect in Bergman for a middle-6 prospect in Abramov, so a slight upgrade there. Then they got Davidsson who is still a big question mark as to what he will actually pan out to be, a middle to late first round pick, and another conditional 1st. You basically got:
-Swapped for a slightly improved prospect
-A middle of the road prospect
-A late first round pick
-A 50/50 shot at another first
I think Stone will bring in:
-2 Solid prospects
-A Late First
-A 3rd pick that becomes a 1st if Stone resigns
I would call that a much better return than what Duchene got.

It's extremely unlikely they pull a prospect of that caliber for a rental. They likely will pull two prospects expected to be middle-6 forwards or 2nd pairing d-men, a first, and a conditional first on whether he resigns or not. Winnipeg is looking like they might be offering a Top-6 forward prospect and a 1st. Expecting anything else will leave you disappointed.

I feel like at the price of Zboril and a 1st Boston would rather add any extra value and just take Stone themselves. Interesting take though!

Mark Stone Trade
<a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1052993">https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1052993</a>
This would likely be what next seasons roster would have to look like in order to re-sign Stone. Definitely cant have Backes on the books. Notice the bridge contract that Carlo gets to put him in a free-agent class with Krecji and Rask.
The next season as Gofnut99 said there are some tough choices to make. We likely wouldnt see Chara back whether it be retiring or otherwise, unless he was willing to sign for around 1M. I don't think Grizz, Wagner, Halak, and Kuhlman will command much of a raise. That would leave us with about ~4M in cap, assuming the cap doesn't go up, between Beleskey and Seidenberg coming off the books, so we would likely need to trade Moore to resign DeBrusk. Coyle mostly likely goes UFA.
If we can pull that off I see a 3 year Stanley Cup window that starts this season and ends after the 2020-2021 season, possibly longer depending on prospect development.

I can't imagine that Columbus isnt looking to trade Panarin and Bob at the deadline with this deal. Having only one first or second round pick in the next three years seems like an unnecessary risk! If this is a cup or bust year I absolutely respect that nerve of Columbus.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tylers00</b></div><div>The Sens got almost the same value for Duchene, who is nowhere near as good and is older</div></div>
I am not disagreeing with that. Duchene is also a center which typically increases a players value. I do think you will get a slightly better return which is why I included a "Prospect" already proven to be able to play top six minutes and a guaranteed 2nd round pick. I do think Boston would be willing to do it for any two prospects not named DeBrusk, McAvoy, Studnicka, or Vaakanainen if that suits Ottawa better. I just used the two that I felt filled needs the best.

I would imagine Dorion is throwing his phone at the wall with every offer, knowing they aren't going to field a competitive team for at least 3 years. How many teams are willing to give up two B+ prospects, a first, and a second that has a decent chance at least a decent of being a first for a player that may not even resign? There are what maybe 5 teams in a position to make a trade like that? Ottawa just have to prey they get a better offer, but I don't think its a guarantee they do? Right now I would say Winnipeg is the front runner because they have the added benefit of not being in the eastern conference.

Why is that? Because of Organization Depth or because of return? STL's 1st rd pick will likely end up in the 17-25 range and they already have 3 first round picks. I feel that Buffalo could use the addition Offensive Defensemen, even if they just flip him for another first at following years Trade Deadline. Regradless I am sure some team would be willing to take that trade whether it be Buffalo or not.

I know this is about a week late at this point....but, my reasoning (at the time) was that I don't think Simmonds will be enough to make the Bruins competitive with Tampa and I would rather save the pick and prospects to trade for someone more impactful or just keep letting them develop in our system.

Buying low on Toffoli in his down season might be Boston's best option.</div></div>
I don't think loosing Krug would be as big of a hole as people make it him out to be. Yes we would miss his offense from the back end but it we got the a quality Top 6 right wing that would be pretty easily offset. It would also make our defense better in out own end and we are already sitting at 4th in the league with 2.63 Goals Against a Game, and we have plenty of LD in the system ready to step up. I do agree that buying Toffoli low could be a low risk high reward move and possibly the best option. I actually really like the John Moore contract, he plays above his pay at worst is a very tradable asset if we need to move him.

I don't believe Ekblad is really THAT overpaid, maybe the first year of his contract but he pretty much getting what he is worth. The thing is you don't see many young defensemen play this well on there rookie contracts. You mentioned Lindholm, but again he signed his contract two years ago and the cap has gone up as will all newly signed contracts. Also McAvoy an Ekblad both put up slightly better numbers in their rooking contracts. I wouldn't be surprise with any contract he signs between 6.5 and 8 mill, but I would suspect it will be more towards 8.

That is true but clearly the Bruins weren't willing to give up Debrusk, maybe Carlo too? Is there any team that is willing to give them more or a better offer? Any GM would decline a few offers while trying to maximize their return, simple business. Do you think come the trade deadline or next off-season before the draft they would come down on his asking pricing if they don't get the offers they are looking for, especially with a player who is going to walk away from the franchise?
