Can’t see EDM reading him though
*definitely not this season anyways
It would have to be a situation where they’re trying to extend him & he says “no thanks”
Threats basically the only thing that gets them to actually trade him imo

Buffalo has more centers than they know what to do with. Neither trade makes sense, especially with their cap hits

Too much from buffalo for mcdavid. The draisatl trade is interesting, but with a year and change before ufa, I think I'd let somebody else pony up.

Yeah, you aren't getting all that from Buffalo especially if Campbell is included. Plus McDavid will basically pick where he wants to go so if he does choose Buffalo it's gonna hurt the ask.

Ok, but you do know McDavid is extremely unlikely to be traded, right?
I know it’s probably “fun” for some ppl to speculate, but it’s so far fetched (esp for this season) that it’s really just a waste of time
No offense

The rebuild
Buffalo doesn't need wingers, we have several undersized skilled wingers coming, and even if none are ever as good as gaudreau, they are all on elcs. If the Sabres are gonna trade anything meaningful, it should be for help on defense, the physical defensive right shot kind, or maybe something less meaningful for help in net.

While it is early in the season, ONLY Power has a better +/- and only Dahlin has more assists among the Sabre Defensemen than Henri.
He achieved those stats while having the lowest OZ% among Sabre defensemen and ONLY getting 0:06 PPTOI/GM
Hanifin on the other hand is a LHD, plays 2:52 PPTOI/GM and has one less pt than Jokihaju while Henri is +4 and Noah is -7.
Furthermore, Noah is two years older at double the salary.
Now go ahead and make your case that Buffalo should give up a first, a decent prospect (3 goals and 5 pts in 5 AHL games as a 20 yo) while weakening their Right side defense.
It would be difficult to make a case that Noah is an upgrade actually.

Plus, we are pretty unlikely to spend big on a Hanifin contract extension going forward after giving Dahlin & Power their HUGE deals
A Hanifin “rental” just doesn’t make sense for us
Especially not at what it supposedly would cost to get him

<strong>So you think Jack Eichel, Rasmus Dahlin, and two second round picks are an underpayment for Connor!</strong>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pretzelcoatl</b></div><div>Of course. Nobody is going to argue McDavid isn't the best player in the world. In terms of trade value, however, I would say his contract puts him in third, behind Bedard and Hughes.</div></div> <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Czu8iks</b></div><div>The thing is, this McDavid would be only available to join "superteam", NBA style forcing trade to one and only team. While Sabres can give them plenty of prospects to restart rebuilding, I doubt McDavid himself would like to go from bad situation (assuming Oilers season won't come around) to 'meh' situation.
Same apply to Devils trading Hughes (eitherone) or Hischer.</div></div> <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>edeangel84</b></div><div>I wasn’t sure if 2 1sts was too much for NJ. I think the Leafs trade is about perfect value.</div></div><div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PurpleHippo</b></div><div>I doubt any team would give up their top players in a McD deal, not cause the trade value isnt there but cause it wouldnt make sense situation wise... it would likely be their top prospects/picks instead.
Also, if EDM is selling McD I'd hope we'd go into a full rebuild not a re-tool.
Taking Buffalo's trade for example, rather than Dahlin/Tuch would do something more like:
McD (half retained)
For
Olofsson (cap reasons) - Benson - Quinn - Kulich - D-Prospect (Strbak imo) - 1st ('24) - 1st ('26)
Buffalo may even add more, hard to conceptualize a McD trade.</div></div>
Let's all agree that McDavid is the 21st century Gretzty <strong>without the 4 70 goal seasons on his resume</strong>.
On 1988-Aug-09 Wayne was traded from Edmonton Oilers with Mike Krushelnyski and Marty McSorley to Los Angeles Kings for Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, round 1 pick in the 1989 draft (Jason Miller), round 1 pick in the 1991 draft (Martin Rucinsky), round 1 pick in the 1993 draft (Nick Stajduhar) and cash
Edmonton does not have any player near the value of McSorley to add to the trade so let's forget him and Krushelnyski
Jimmy Carson is Buffalo's Jeff Skinner 0.357goals/game v 0.439 goals/game over their careers.
Martin Gelinas is Buffalo's Casey Mittelstadt 0.518 pts/game v 0,508 pts/game over their careers.
Plus three first round picks.
Maybe Buffalo needs to add, but then Edmonton needs to add for McSorley and Krushelnyski
<strong>Sure, my Sabre offer is underwhelming yet reasonably comparable to the Gretzky trade but still, the Sabre offer in this post is off the charts over payment.</strong>
Well that is my tome of the week.

Outside of the draft which is still TBD his work is thoroughly unimpressive considering the urgency of being a team thats missed 13 years in a row.
Although signing luke schenn is not the answer</div></div>
Ya its not like he acquired Tuch, Krebs, and Levi via trade or anything. Not like he fleeced Philly in the Risto trade and got very good value in the Eichel debacle. He totally wasn't at all responsible for signing Sammy, TT, and Coz to very good long term deals, securing a long window of contention.
Extremely unimpressive that's for sure.

Pettersson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Prime_Jimbo</b></div><div>I don't think Kuz's finishing is sustainable. He got backdoor opportunities because Petey gets swarmed. He lived on the doorstep to the goal. Horvat had a lot of tips. Many of those came from Hughes at the point.
I do think that Petey having help allows for more production though. And that's what a top line should have. The mixture of forwards he had the year prior weren't always that great. Outside the lotto line (JT and Boeser which was about 150 minutes of the season) he was getting the Travis Green spin cycle of Vancouver middle six guys.</div></div>
That's all I'm saying.
High 80s points, high 30s goals, with elite defensive numbers. That is what I think Elias Pettersson is.
I think Nico is a low 80s points, low 30s goals, with elite defensive numbers.
I think Jack Hughes is going to be a high 40s goals, high 100s points, with very solid defensive numbers.
I think Hughes is the 5th best C in hockey
I think pettersson is in the 6-10 range with Crosby Barkov Point Tage. (probably 8th)
I think hischier is in the 11-15 range with Stutzle, Mika, Eichel, and Aho (probably 13th)

He isn't. You're just being decieved by the base stats.
Elias pettersson got 23 assists to Kuzmenko shooting 27% (kuzmenko had 24 xgoals on the season)
Jack hughes got 1 assist to Erik Haula shooting 5% (haula had 22 xGoals on the season)
Overall, Nico+Haula+Bratt+Dougie combined shot about 0 above expectation. Everyone else was also around expectation on the devils
Overall, Kuzmenko+Horvat+JT Miller (this makes up 2/3rds of Petterssons assists) were combined for about 30 goals above expectation. Everyone else was around expectation.
Now this goes into a combination of luck, shooting talent, opposing goaltending, etc.
It doesn't have any bearing on the ability of Jack Hughes or Elias Pettersson. But it inflates petterssons stats to the MOON
