If the Pens trade for Rakell at the 22TDL, I’d think resigning him instead of Getzlaf and one of Names/Erod makes more sense to me personally.</div></div>
I think rust wants about 6 mil but if you give him more term hell come down to 5/5.5 so I gave him 6 at 5

Shed salary for FA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DDUB</b></div><div>Any legit top 6F and I will be happy. I just kept as is because who knows how much the cap will go up and what Malkin signs for.
Or we trade McGinn, bring up a WBS for the 4th and add Palat. Lol that would clearly be ideal.</div></div>
I definitely would hold McGinn. You don't want to sacrifice bottom six depth. If some WBS players show they're ready then you can make moves.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DDUB</b></div><div>I agree with you. I just think the Pens need to get another legit top 6F for next year. Most, if not all, of the FA will be priced out for the Pens.</div></div>
There are better ways to make that happen than giving up Marino.

Shed salary for FA
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DDUB</b></div><div>I think you make strong points. Pens would have to have a good RHD locked up in FA to make the Garland trade with Marino.
To me, having a dynamic 2nd line offers more than what the 2nd pairing defense is providing the Pens. If this was 4-5 years ago, you would never consider trading a young Marino who is locked up. The Pens have 3-4 years max window. Load up the top 6, hope those ELC middle 6 forwards develop for your 3rd line and go for it.
Regardless of what we think, I have a feeling GMRH will make some moves this off-season.</div></div>
Yea I just think they wanna make sure the team is still decent for a while cause a full on rebuild will hurt ticket sales so much. That's why their first is off the board. They need to find a good winger for this year who doesn't cost as much and can be resigned beyond this year. I agree Petterson will be moved, and probably zucker too. POJ and Marino will pair up and they'll hopefully look for someone to matchup with Maths. Personally I like guys who can be had for not a ton more than Kap himself, ie Rakell, Olofsson, Gurianov, ect. Then I'd like a guy like Mayo from Ari or a similarly 24-26 y/o bigger stay at home dman to pair with Maths. Then I'm all for Namestnikov for a 3rd cause he'll play on any line and be effective. Mayo has term and is solid, give them a 2 and theyll add a low end prospect like Raty. Olofsson and gurianov are RFAs and don't have huge qualifying offers, Rakell is a UFA but shouldn't cost a ton to retain. Thats my ideal deadline cause those guys can be retained and then in the offseason you move Petterson and Zucker to have more cap. That way you can bring in another guy or 2 and have all the young guys right there

LTIR- Get Malkin his wing
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juiceman</b></div><div>Where is the blue chip prospect coming back?</div></div>
Does Boeser get a true blue chipper? With what seems to be him declining over the last couple years (lots of injuries) and his contract status I don't know. Maybe he just needs a change, but I dont think he has the same value as say Miller. This deal gets them a young roster player, decent prospect and a first rounder. Not sure they get much more than that tbh. I don't do this if I'm Pittsburgh as I don't love the fit.

Getting some depth for the playoffs
Zucker and a conditional 2nd next year for Drouin.
If Drouin is not available for at least 80% of the games or Zucker is not on Montreal's post TDL roster in 22/23, no pick is transferred.
Zucker is just a warm body for Montreal. If they can't raise his value and trade him for more than a 2nd at the deadline next year, they keep him and get a 2nd.
If they do trade Zucker (maybe he has a good year and they get a 2nd/3rd plus a prospect with retention), then Pittsburgh doesn't owe them a pick.
If Drouin can't stay healthy, Pittsburgh doesn't owe a pick.
So as long as the trade works out for both teams, it's considered an even swap. No reason for Montreal to consider it otherwise.

2nd line Wingers Or 3C
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pens2000</b></div><div>Tbf erod did all his damage before malkin came back and he was playing 2C/3C. Once he came back he moved to the wing and he’s had like 5 points since then. I’m not saying erod will turn into a superstar when he moves to the centre spot but he’s MUCH more effective when he has the puck and can create. Look at his numbers before the west coast trip and after then you’ll see</div></div>
he's 28 on a 1 year 1M contract for a reason bro.
You can build up the fluke play all you want. But here are two things that are true. A. he's not that good. B. I wouldn't want to be roped into a contract with him worth anymore than what he's getting now.

honestly all the pens need out of him is 3rd line production. they don't need him to be crosby out there. and i personally think he's most effective as a center. fluke or not heat least he has produced better than what kapanen is giving (who has less goals then DOM SIMON in their last 9 games)

new lines i like it
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DDUB</b></div><div>I like it a lot. Not sure Erod will go on a surge like he did earlier this year, but the Pens don’t need that.
I agree with filibuster above, they need to commit to the lines for the majority of the night.
As I put in my list earlier today, think Pens should still look for an effective 2nd line winger. However, I think it will be much easier to find a 3C/ or wings if Erod delivers.
I would love a world that Erod performs very well there and we can somehow make a trade involving Kappy for Jarnkrok. That would be a killer 3rd line.</div></div>
. I’m calling it now, if this is the look for tomorrow I’m expecting a huge game from erod. He has been a much better 2C/C then winger and it was pretty evident. But ya sooner then later they need consistency when it comes to the pairings

Well, it's Alvin's team now and no idea what kind of GM he'll be. If he's anything like JR then look out, but if JR was really pulling the strings you'd have five trades by now lol
