I'd disagree to a point. Full 50% retention for a 6th if other moves have been made and it might, and I only say might, help stabilise the lack of leadership that I personally believe the Avs are suffering from.

Yeah the tough thing is that Jenner isnt available and isnt being traded, so any trade would need to be a significant overpay to convince the jackets to actually make a trade. From a pure value perspective, yeah that package is plenty.

UPL Trade
It's a fair offer for upl, I don't think the Sabres wanna move him right now, so they would decline. If you think about what our gm has done (and not done) at the goalie position, it's been a sore spot for him. He has opted to stand pat with less than heroic goaltending, it's been a main source of criticism, and now upl has finally taken over the crease and played quite well (can't hang many losses on him recently). Unless he was going to swing a trade for saros, he would be crazy to make upl available.

I think you took what I said the wrong way. I wasn't meaning apples to apples, but moreso that very few teams have that kind of two-headed-monster combination. If you really look at the league, other than the Pens, Leafs and Oilers, how many teams have a 1A/1B on that level?

Those 2 2nd round draft picks will probably never play more games combined than Samuelsson. I'll just stop right there. The other trades are even worse.

I don't think there's any version of a Zegras trade that would convince me it'd be a good move for BUF. When comparing his likely on-ice impact to the opportunity cost associated with his acquisition, I don't see it coming out in BUF's favour.

no its where the premise doesnt make any sense. if pettersson is willing to sign 11.5 x 7, van would be willing to pay it. why would he decline that offer just to sign it in another city with similarly poor regular season history, playoff droughts, and similar taxes.
if he is declining a contract its either because he wants to get paid more, wants to live in a nicer city, or wants to play for a contender, or probably a mix of all 3 (like Tkachuk wanting to go to FLA).
but yeah, way to immediately get super defensive about it

TK is exactly the player i would want to replace olofsson with too. So if it cost me ostlund, a center who i dont even have ahl roster room for and a 1st, when hopefully this an other moves put me deeper into the playoff picture i'm probably going to pull the trigger on your offer...i would haggle the heck out of it though. I'd want to keep that first. Try and meet you with a 3rd...ok 2nd.
2 years of konecky showing my prospects what i want outta 5.5mil players on this team sounds like a perfect scenario to me.</div></div> <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>worldwidesensei</b></div><div>Lol, we have room for Ostlund. Olofsson is in every single Buffalo trade and I view it as a cap dump more than anything. So Ostlund, #7 in Corey Pronman's Sabres prospect pool, and a 1st for PPG player.... not far fetched imo.You can take out Joki and Ostlund and add Benson if you want.</div></div> <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMDannyB</b></div><div>Ur over valuing ur players... Just cause u drafted a player in the 1st round doesn’t make them a 1st round talent. We have plenty of 1st round picks that aren’t even in the NHL anymore lol...</div></div> <strong>Olofsson</strong> is mentioned in many trades not because he is bad but rather he has value and earns nearly five times as much as any ELC. The Sabres will need to use his current salary hit on Dahlin and Power immidiately and Quinn and Peterka in the near future.
It is really difficult to believe Olofsson while playing about 500 fewer minutes out scored DeBrincat last season and has more goals than Boeser over the last 4 seasons also playing about 500 fewer minutes, is a <strong>CAP DUMP</strong> while earning significantly less than either of them who are also not noted for playing much defense.
While it is true there are many first round draft picks who never see NHL ice, the reverse is also true.
Peterka and Kulich were drafted 34th and 28th OA, if one were to question NHL GM's it is safe to presume many would give up at least the 15th OA for either of them if not more.
<strong>Ostlund</strong> as a 19 yo is playing against men and is doing very well, he has certainly maintained his first round value after two years.
<strong>Jokiharju</strong> is a vanilla defenseman, he does not score nor does he hit.
In the 2021-'22 season ONLY Dahlin had more ice time than he.
Last season he was by a wide margine used more than any defenseman not named Rasmus, Mattias or Owen.
If Granato likes him so do I.
Obviously Travis Konecny is a great talent who had two different seasons of nearly posting a pt/gm.
Buffalo is building a team of players who want to be in Buffalo, drafted by Buffalo, came to Buffalo as a younger player, have a connection to a player/coach in Buffalo, have been on the team for a number of years or play on the fourth line or 3rd pairing:
Want to be in Buffalo, obviously Tuch and Okposo,
Drafted by Buffalo Peterka, Cozens, Quinn, Dahlin, Samuelsson, Power, Luukkonen, Olofsson, Bryson
Came to Buffalo as a young player Thompson, Krebs, Jokiharju, Levi
Have a connection Stillman, Johnson, Greenway
Play a less significant roll Jost, Comrie,
Have been a Sabre for a while Girgensons and Skinner
Which catagory would Travis Konecny fit into?
Peterka, Quinn, Benson, Kulich all have the potential to average 60 pts/82 games as Travis has done excluding his first season.
Well that is my tome for the week.

This is actually a pretty decent out of the box trade. Both players have a very specific skill set. Neither are well rounded players. Maybe this change of scenery can help both.

Casey has been maligned since his first full season.
While he did really well last season, he was able to score 16 goals and 41 pts over his previous 81 games, so it was not that large of a change as one may think.
IMO, playing on the third line he should be able to contribute 18 goals and 50 pts.
This would be an over payment with all things considered, and Buffalo should absolutely accept this deal if it were offered to them since Buffalo has several other center prospects in the pipe line.
Beauvillier would be a decent replacement and Podkolzin is decent prospect.

You're missing a lot of details. Beyond the fact that teams have used 22 man rosters for mostly full seasons already:
1) The salary number (but not the roster number) includes Caufield, Monahan, Slafkovsky and Xhekaj, all of whom will be ready for training camp, hence the 26 players.
2) Price is LTIRetired, Montreal always intended to use LTIR this season.
3) The preference for Montreal is to use the in-season LTIR instead of the off-season.
4) Montreal can paper enough guys down to allow them to enter the "season" under the cap, then put Price on LTIR, and then call players back up.
Montreal's cap situation has been and is managed.
Pittsburgh wanted to trade Petry to create cap space and flexibility because they wanted to improve the roster and needed to take on salary to do so. Montreal participated in the Karlsson trade because they got futures and got to move Hoffman, who was blocking young forwards. Montreal is not in the same position as Pittsburgh, they DON'T need to move Petry for cap space. They'll try to move him for the same reason they traded him to Pittsburgh (because he wants to play for a more competitive team and he's earned respect in the org), but they aren't going to move him for the sake of it, they need to get something that benefits them. If they aren't going to get it, then Petry will stay because he's still a guy who can play in all 3 zones, bring experience, and bring a physical element.

They really don’t. I personally rather MTL keep Petry because he adds a top 4 RD in our team. Plus Hughes has repetitively shown that he moves players at the price he wants, so Petry is not going out of MTL for free

TBH I would not trade Olofsson for Boeser one for one, much less add Krebs.
Neither Brock nor victor are noted for their defense, they get paid for their goal scoring capabiities.
Over the last four seasons Boeser has played 583:45 more minutes than Olofsson but has one less goal (80 v Olofsson's 81).
Two seasons since they both signed new contracts each Boeser goal cost $309,302 while each Olofsson goal cost $197,917.
Last season Brock played over 60% of the time with one of Miller, Horvat or Petterson as his line mate.
Last season Victor played about 10% of the time with our top two centers Cozens or Thompson.
Last season he had more goals than DeBrincat and only 22 forwards scored at at faster rate than his 1.6 goals/60.
The last two games of the season he played with Girgensons and Okposo yet netted two goals, keep him on that line and our fouth line may exceed 40 goals next year.
I sure hope Karmanos does not give Victor away for a third as many of the Sabre ACGM's often suggest.

No reason except that Lafreniere has played on the right with Panarin and despite the short duration he played well there. I agree Panarin was an overpay but it was also a mistake to pick Laf when there was no room to get him the playing minutes his draaft position deserved.

Not bad, the trades probably dont happen, but i see what you did. The pesce to buffalo stuff is done unfortunately. I think you are way overpaying in the trouba trade, not that it matters, I don't see him waiving. I kinda like the Wilson trade, but you likely have to swap peterka with something different. And that would still only happen if Wilson would extend, there is no way adams would move a young player like peterka for one year of Wilson. Wilson provides a dynamic that we do not have, and we play in a division with two Tkachuks and Josh Anderson.
