Patrick doesn't seem to be an NHL player, maybe due to his concussions. Just because he right handed doesn't make him a fit (on any team). Keith....iffy he worth near his 5.3m X 2 now.

Kieths not coming to oilers at full cap hit, yr 1 of his deals not a problem it’s yr 2 yr where that 5.5 cap hit stands in the way of Nurses extension and JP contract which could be anywhere between 3-5 mil depending on what type of season he has, wouldn't be surprised if he hits the 30 goal mark.

I want Edmonton to trade with the Pens. Pens will take Koskinen if Edmonton retains 750K-1M for 1 season. Brings Koskinen to 3.5M-3.75M for 1 year.
Take DeSmith and a 5th round pick. DeSmith definitely helps their cap troubles.
I’ll make the call!!
No but seriously, I’d be happy with a Koskinen for DeSmith trade. Both being 1 year rentals.

Lol we’re not giving up Smith for nothing; and especially not retaining a DOLLAR. Come on…

Sure there are hypothetical advantages in manipulating the LTIR, but the probability of either Edmonton or Seattle needing that leverage seems unlikely. It is rumored that Klefbom's contract is not insured, so Seattle might do the Oilers a favor by selecting him. Doing so might save the OEG over $8M in real dollars.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DEdward</b></div><div>It doesn't help Tampa as they are more than $5M over the cap next year with 12F 5D and 2G signed and no Young players they can send down without risking waivers.
It could work for some other teams, I'm not going through every team, but that still leaves the matter of still paying out the $8.25M owed to Klefbom. After the last year I'm not sure there the apatite for that.</div></div>
I just said Tampa as an example of a team wanting to use LTIR money to their advantage, im not saying he makes sense for them. you are getting caught up on minor details
plus not taking into fact that they have to lose someone in XD too, so they their cap space overages will be lesser
example they could lose Johnson in XD, and if needed trade for LTIR money to help even further with their RFA contracts in foote etc

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>coga16</b></div><div>Klefboms not exempt so you are going to risk Seattle taking a shot on him? He’s suppose to be healthy to start next season right? They could even take him just for the ltir benefits later if he’s not</div></div>
Klefbom will not be healthy to start next season and it has yet to be determined whether he will be able to play again.
Its a given that Nurse, and Bear will be protected during the expansion draft. What is not known is whether the Oilers will sign either Larsson or Barrie before Seattle is given an exclusive window in which to negotiate with UFAs. Rumor has it that Larsson is the priority in Edmonton, if his contract is extended then he will be protected as well. If Holland chooses a 7-3-1 protection strategy, he has no room to include Klefbom or Jones.
Given their current roster and prospect pool, it seems reasonable to project their d-core might look like Nurse/Bouchard, Broberg/Bear, Samorukov/Kesselring or Kemp. Samorukov may be ready for limited NHL exposure next season, but Broberg is probably at least one season away from regular NHL action. Signing Larsson provides time for Kesselring or Kemp to learn the pro game. With Klefbom's future in doubt, Holland has to find a veteran 2LD. He can't gamble on Klefbom being back because his team needs to improve now while not giving up its future.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DEdward</b></div><div>again correct me if I'm wrong but adding Klefbom and placing him on LTIR doesn't mean Tampa gets to spend $85.2M on dressed players plus all their LTIR players. They need to get right up to the cap including LTIR for openning night roster then place on player on LTIR. They can then go over by that amount. If they are over the cap before LTIR is used the relief you recieve is simply the amount you are over not the full amount of the player's cap hit. That's why the Oilers were still up against the cap all least year dispite Klefbom being on LTIR</div></div>
d if you have an unsigned RFAs for exmaple, you can wait to sign them after the guy goes on LTIR and you have the space to do it, teams can activate and use it in multiple of ways

Buy him out yourself and the cost is $1.9M x 4.
Retain 50% for Seattle to buyout costs $.95 x 4.
Savings of $.95M x 4 is not worth a 2nd and Samorukov.
That's just incredibly poor asset management.

The Seattle trade, if it were even possible, is shockingly stupid. Edmonton saves just $950k x 4 and somehow that's worth a 2nd and a good prospect??
Asset mismanagement at its finest!

I'm the same guy you just asked in the other thread and stand by what I said. Every Oilers fans post of the Kieth trade is terrible for the hawks. Always benefit to the oilers in cap space and a 2nd pair dman but nothing for the hawks, other than caleb jones I guess, who you guys will lose to Seattle if we don't take him anyways

There’s zero chance Holland doesn’t make a change in net, I think there could be a connection with Driedger his agent is Edmonton based same agent as Nuge

Seeing if can make sense of Duncan rumours
The rumors are Neal was a no go and the EDM / Keith mutually and genuinely want each other. So EDM isn't treating Keith like a cap dump like most on here suggest. And he's not IMO, but anyway. It'll likely be Mikko, Caleb, plus a 5th conditional for Keith that's got 1 to 1.5 retained.

Hell of a score for Chicago if they could salary dump for prospects… and no thanks to the same tandem in net.

The ONLY untouchables are Drasiatl - McDavid and Nurse. The Oilers are in win mode now, not development mode.
