Keith trade Neal buyout same goalies return
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GrinReaper</b></div><div>Why sign Benn both Koekkoek and Russel are better options
There’s zero chance Holland doesn’t make a change in net, I think there could be a connection with Driedger his agent is Edmonton based same agent as Nuge</div></div>
I sign Benn because he is significantly bigger than Russell and has significantly more experience than Koekkoek. All.3.come.to camp competing for 6-7D spots. Loser waived as either 1st call up or lost to another team.
I hope goaltending is upgraded but even Holland said in his year end presser, after being questioned about goaltending, that he could return with the same group. I beleive his answer was, "why not? they gave us good goaltending this year." The truth is they were top 10 in every goaltending catagory as a team once Smith returned from injury. I just hope all.those 1st shot goals is enough to force Hollad to find an improvement over Koskinen.

So EDM isn't treating Keith like a cap dump like most on here suggest. And he's not IMO, but anyway. It'll likely be Mikko, Caleb, plus a 5th conditional for Keith that's got 1 to 1.5 retained.</div></div>
if the Oilers can unload Koskinen and Chicago retains on Keith I would be overjoyed with that deal as an Oiler fan. That to me would be best case scenario.

That is probably exactly the type of deal that gets done for Eichel. Not sure Calgary would actually step up with it. Pretty balanced trade though.

Hell of a score for Chicago if they could salary dump for prospects… and no thanks to the same tandem in net.</div></div>
I don't love another year of no 3C that is right handed but I don't like the UFA realistic options.
I agree on the same goalie tandem but don't see where Koskinen can be moved to and I don't want two buy outs. I eat it for 1 more year and upgrade at the deadline.
Unfortunately I think that is what a Keith deal looks like. I don't love it but Stauffer was pitching this type of deal hard on Friday and being the Oiler mouth piece I think there is something to it. The extra prospect might be too much.
Overall I think the team is significantly upgraded on forward depth and in a weak Pacific a lock for the playoffs. The goalies will probably need to be upgarded at the deadline and if Koskinen goes the other way that frees up more cap to upgrade elsewhere as need at the deadline as well oe R3C.

Edmonton would probably be the best place for him. I doubt he even moves. Lives out of a hotel and on off days drives 3 hours or takes the 45minute flight home. Don't need to uproot the family for the one year.

No way Chicago does that. Turris and Koskinen are both negative contracts. There is value in Strome and with that much retained on Keith he has value as well. Chicago isn't just giving them away for our cast offs

Keith has 2 years left at an atrocious buyout if that's the route they went. Neal has a much easier to swallow buyout but is owed more in real dollars.
So the question is why the Blackhalks are looking to trade him. Are they just doing him a favour or are they looking to make cap room? If it is for cap room a Neal for Keith trade would be good for them.

Lol. Players want out of Buffalo like rats scattering from a sinking ship. They willl need players and future assets. The Oilers may need to sweeten the deal with a better futures but Koskinen along with Smith gave the Oilers top 10 goaltending once Smith was healthy and was a fine tandem goalie. Buffalo adds a crappy contract during a crapoy reboot year for another future asset.

Veteran 3C and a 1RW playing the 3rd line with Holloway insulate him while playing sheltered minutes. Holloway is going into draft +1 and was a late birthday. This is actually a pretty soft entry to the NHL and not what is wrong with this lineup.

Other than that, I like it.</div></div>
Gibson is better than anyone in free agency and has a great contract. Takes a massive overpay for it to be worthwhile for the Ducks. I suggested the trade for fun but probably say no if I'm the Oilers IRL.
Rakell is potentially the 1RW but put in 3RW for depth sciring to hopefully finally have an outscoring 3rd line. top 2 lines are already plus 5v5.

Agreed it is too much for a goalie but for fun, and with a total disregard for the longterm future, I made a trade that I thought was a big enough overpay that it would be accepted. This gets the elite goalie needed to win the cup and also adds a winger that could easily be in the top 6 but I put into 3RW for scoring depth and balance.

It's an overpay before your suggested changes. I made this suggestion because I think it takes a large overpay to get 6 years of Gibson from Anaheim not because I would actually make the deal from an Oilers perspective.

I'm pleasantly surprised how much debate/reaction this lineup has received. It's only my 2nd run at this and the 1st team was significantly less fun with majority of changes coming through UFA signings. What's the fun in that.
I do believe most of the trades are within range and at the very least get a counter offer. It takes 2 teams to trade but these aren't offers getting hung up on by the opposing GM, except maybe the Kassian deal. That's more wishful thinking and hoping to take advantage of a rookie GM that just watched his team get pushed around with now answer. I think therre is a case of some people over estimating the value of their own players. Perfect example is the Boston trade. Oiler fan says Bear is undervalued in deal, Boston thinks DeBrusk is. Makes for a good debate though.

Just off the top of my head, Pittsburgh once traded a 1st for Ryan Reaves because they needed his player type. there were other pieces that basically canceled each other out.

lead defenceman in points. so not a bad player. and all the categories you are talking about Barrie had slightly lower numbers. It's not like he was a drag. I would sign Barrie to make Bear expendable in a trade and it was honestly a really hard choice. I don't think the Oilers will be able solve all their scoring winger needs in free agency and a trade or 2 will be needed.
As far as the sign or don't sign Barrie debate that is/will continie right up until he signs somewhere else I think.

Far enough. you know more about your team than I do. Maybe I'd need to look elsewhere. I just saw Anaheim as a team that could use a backup goalie( Koskinen put up good numbers once he wasn't the starter, dispite the 1st shot goals) theu are rebuilding so another decent prospect never hurts and although they just picked up Fleury he isn't established yet so it's tough to count on him longterm yet and he can play the right side as well. I thought could be a fit there.

I think DeBrusk is a perfect rebound player. Young and skilled and has scored 30 before. Not a great situation with his current coach. I like Bear but my roster has Barrie signed and the team doesn't "need" another smaller defenceman. And you need to give to get. I'm an Oiler fan and I don't think Bear +3rd is an over pay. if it is not by much. 3rd to a 4th or 5th maybe.

lol, no one wants Koskinen. The trade is basically Samorukov to pay for 1 year Koskinen at $2.5M and a 1st for Rakell. Samorukov is a B defensive prospect that spent the year playing well in the KHL, with similar stats and role as Montreal's Romanov did the year before, and after having a very successful CHL career. He is about 1 year away from being NHL ready.
