<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>You are kind of answering your own question here. If the reported ask for Askarov was a high 1st in a stacked draft then isn't that what Wolf is worth at least too? Robertson (valued at roughly a 2nd) and a late 1st in 3 years don't come close to the value of a high 1st from this most recent draft.

As for your choice in goalie targets, they really don't make much sense for Toronto's window. Wolf, Askarov, Wallstedt, Cossa, etc are all quite a few years away from taking over a starting job in the NHL. If Toronto is looking for someone to be a bonafide #1 right now than Carter Hart would be the best target for them. He gets criminally underrated due to playing for a terrible team. In reality he puts up very solid underlying numbers.</div></div>

So Thats kind of why I Signed Samsonov as well I think Wolf could actually be a very solid backup this season. I honestly think hes ready to play games I think hes just being held back in CGY because of all the goalies infront of him. The guys going to be 23 when the season starts i believe so hes not a 18 year old kid. The problem with Hart is the Salary. Hes already at 4.9M an an RFA, which means his QO has to be atleast 4.9M if he comes over and has a decent season youre essentially whereyu are now with Samsonov. a goalie whos had one good season on a contract year whos going to want 5M plus whereas with Wolf if he can step in this season and platoon with samsonov and have a good season they can likely resign the guy for less then 2M thats my reasoning on why im not going after carter hart

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>That Philly trade is a trainwreck</div></div>

Do you want to elaborate? Constructive critisism?
It has been pointed out to me in a past thread Philly has passed on a low First and a second for Laughton.
Here Torontos getting a controllable asset for i believe three seasons on a team friendly deal and its only going to get more team friends 2 years from now. I see Liljgren as around a high second round pick. If he plays like he did last year and builds on it again I could see him fetching a low first. Not to Mention Liljgren is going to need a raise after this season. Are you ready to commit 4+ Mil to Liljgren if he has a decent season?
So my thoughts are. Liljgren(worth low 1st or second) , a first , They take on Jarnkrok, which isnt a horrible contract but at 2.1M with Knies, Domi and Bertuzzi supposed to be all playing on the wing I dont know if they want a 2.1M guy on the 4th line or scratched. I also think Jarnkrok may even get beat out for a job by someone like McMann or Steeves someone like that. which that Philly also retains 1.5M for the next three seasons... thats actually worth a decent amount on its own.
I honestly think that trade is worth it compared to value that has been thrown around for Laughton. Laughton may not score a ton of goals but hes a really good defensive Winger and can play centre as well. Also adding toughness.
I would love the leafs having the centres of Matthews, Tavares, Laughton, Kampf. or even Matthews , Domi, Laughton Kampf, or even Matthews , Tavares, Domi, Kampf and Laighton on the wing. They would create alot of combinations and depth that would be very hard to play against .
I understand it seems like alot , However look no further then the Tanner Jeannot trade, they also traded for him wih no control. needing a new contract thats probably going to pay him way to much money for what hes worth. My guess in the 4M area, Laughton is controllable for 3 more seasons. Look what these types of guys are commanding even if its just one team thats winning to always pay these rediculous prices all you need is one team to do it. They paid a 1st, 2nd ,3rd and a fifth AND Cal Foote for Jeannot. They also traded a first and Greco for Barclay Goodrow. These types of players do command a premium. Getting one thats already on a team friendly deal and chopping that in half , well thats gunna cost a decent amount. But the leafs need to just go for it. They have Knies, They have Hirvonen, they have a steeves , if they dont trade robertson. they have Woll, They have some decent prospects already in the system. and theyre keeping all of them almost with these trades. They need to stop using first round picks as ways to get rid of their bad signings that Dubas was doing and actually use them to improve the teams depth.

Not to mention they still have the Matthews, Marners and Nylanders, the thing I noticed about these Dyanstys is theyre to loyal to the players. for instance, Chicago. Toews and Kane should have been traded 3-4 seasons ago. I would have found a place they were willing to waive to and move them on Recouping some assets and first round picks. Toronto could use Matthews , Marner , Nylander etc and after 5-6 years still get a bunch of first round picks for them to help rebuild the team through the draft. If they wait til theyre almost retired to trade them with a ton of injures that wont work .

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GMDannyB</b></div><div>Laughton is a 3rd liner that can play 2nd for a dozen games or so in a pinch if needed. Anyone who tells you he isn’t a 3rd liner is crazy. Laughton isn’t even worth a 1st realistically but GMs think differently. Danny clearly wants a ridiculously stupid offer for Laughton because he doesn’t want to sell him. They have reportedly turned down a 1st and 2nd for Laughton and other offers of 1sts so realistically they don’t want to sell him because that is absolutely an overpay already for him lol. I just think it’s funny that people on here try to trade him for nothing as if Danny will suddenly just completely drop his asking price for him</div></div>

I really dont think im super far off on Laughton, just because Briere is asking crazy amounts doesnt mean he will get it and he may just decide to lower his asking just a bit to get the deal done and build the first round picks for next season before teams start grabbing the ones that are going to be traded up.

The way I look at it is. Laughtons probably worth a first. and a decent prospect. my thoughts was Mcmann. Then robertson for Salary retention. If the leafs have to throw a third in there to get the deal done then I think they have to do it.
but if Briere wants even more then a first and a second for Laughton I highly doubt he will ever be traded. Laughton is a third line player... Im sure hes looking at the Tanner Jeannot trade and thinking theyre similar value... However I dont think Lightning do that trade again if they had the chance that was just rediculous.

Its Possible he ends up getting a first a second and a prospect for him . I just dont see him worth A first a second and a good prospect. and i think thats why he hasnt been traded , nobody else does either.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MaxBorjshlapsky</b></div><div>I assumed you meant adding the defense to the mangiapane deal...I would trade Nylander for any one of their defensemen and a couple picks also, I would rather mangiapane but I'd be happy with on of the D instead yes.</div></div>

no no. The leafs wouldnt want Mangiapane. He got paid after the 35 goal season and he will never hit that again. The flames have handed out a couple of those contracts to players who have one good season after a larger sample sizze of not even close to those numbers and wonder why they have such bad contracts....
Examples:
Huberdaeu- Is on average a 70-75 pt player throughout like 8 years. Hits 92 once. never even came close to that any other time. then he goes off and has a 115 pt season on a juggernaut offensive team that didnt play much defence and they decide to sign him to 10.5M... The guy had one good season... and one decent one a couple years ago... rest were like 60-70 pt MAXseasons if that.

Kadri- The guys a 50 pt player every single year.. a decent 2nd line centre and a good third line centre. he goes off one year and gets 87 pts one season and now all the sudden again Calgary pays him way more then a 50 pt guys should get cause of 1 good season on the cup champs at 7Mil

Mangiapane- the guy is a 50 pt guy.. had one season where he scores 35 ... 50 pt guy they go give him almost 6 million...

The Flames are in a real bad spot signing all these contracts to players who had one good season and now theyre wondering why theyre not doing well... The players played well to get paid now theyre actually playing at the pace they can maintain.

Therefor the leafs wouldnt want the Flames mistake of the Manipane contract
