I'd say he hasn't been given the chance to prove himself. Oilers should be starting him today. If he stays at .913 sv % he is above league average (.908) which is all this team needs to be successful. Every1 craps on this team but they proved last year in the layoffs D and goalies were the issue. So if they get the better goaltending (league average) they are fine.

Its about a top 9 not just looking at top 6 minutes. What does trading Yamo get you and how do you fill that hole.
JP has dropped. I see $4 for a longer term.
How is the D worse? Pysyk has had a decent year on a bad buffalo team

Given Oilers recent success under woodcroft, Oilers just need 9 top 9 guys. Drai and Mcdavid are top tier, JP, Hyman, Nuge are top 6 forwards. Holloway should be there but unproven. Why add more unproven assets when you have 3 guys (YAmo, Foegele and McLeod). LAvoie played like trash in the AHL this year and has been better of late

My thought is you kinda do a "3-way" trade with Seattle. Get a second for Barrie and then flip it for Mayfield. I think for a 1.5year its worth it and gives a more defensive player for a playoff push/run.
Gives you a chance to see if the other guys in the A are good to go

If we hired Zito and not Holland
My concerns are repeated above on Marino, Petry, Kelfbom, Larrson (left because his dad died here and family didn't visit because of it). WOuld add though:
I dont think Hall would be a good fit here.
Zegras should be a top 3 pick in hindsight and based on the top 9 projected LHD is more pressing in the near future (Broberg looks to be a top 4 behind nurse)
Athansiou trade sucks today but pre-pandemic this looked good (maybe 2 2nds is too much even then but Oilers top 9 looked dreadful) and Oilers would have kept him in 20/21
Then your Kassian trade doesnt make sense. Why would you load up for the playoffs and then trade kassian considering how well he played that year??? makes zero sense.
Oilers had lots of shots in the dark at this time: you wouldnt have him on this list even he didint stick in detroit like he has so i think this is too easy to say
Hindsight is tough to look back on but idk dont think there are that many head scratchers outside of :
Kassian contract length and $ amount
Smith term
Turris term (should only have been 1 year)
failure to properly address goaltending (not for lack of effort I believe)

Seattle gets a guy who has 50% of his points in Edmonton on the PP, and 50% of his total point with the Oilers are 2nd assists. There is one GM in the league that sees that being worth 4.5M for 2 years and it's Holland. No body would be able to get Barrie to produce near his numbers in Edmonton. He's also on the wrong side of 30 for a D man that whose best asset is his skating. Oilers are either paying to get rid of him, riding it out or buying him out.</div></div>
This guy provides offense and hey second assists are still points that led to a goal.

3.5M and 2.75 isnt friendly for what they offer? Seattle already has a bad goalie contract why have 2?
Barrie value higher than Soucey. Turris is a cap balance for this year alone (very common in midseason trades)

Wouldn't do the yotes trade for multiple reasons:
Oilers need forward depth and Holloway projects to be NHL ready next year at worst.
Barrie is redundant with Bouchard so he gets trades before Ceci

As this is what Kane's 5th or 6th chance now?
Would not surprise me if by March he breaks Covid protocols again</div></div>
When did sports teams become the beacon of ethical signings? If Oilers win the building is packed and Kane's issues are quickly forgotten.
Again if he is a big POS then the league has a chance to act.

Ya maybe. Lou is a good negotiator with the younger guys aka Barzel.
In the end he is young and if he stays at this production no harm done all term but assume he grows and it's a home run. Bridge may cost more in the future

you have 230k and cant roster 23 players. injuries happen and you wont be able to call anyone up.
FYI. Cap will likely be flat considering arena attendances and restrictions in the league this year. 82.5 is optimistic
IDk how bonuses work when your team is on LTIR but Islanders could have a bonus carry over of $1,685,000 (This year is $1.3M). So that isnt even factored in.
So i say you are $2M over the cap next year
