Buffalo Sabres signed Tyson Jost (1 Year / $2,000,000 AAV)
Glad he’s back. Works hard. DongLord23 makes a good point about the face offs (our whole team needs to be better here)
As for the overpay, didn’t qualify at $2.5M and signed for $2M so good management by GMKA. I like how he is true to his word and respects his players but it’s also a business. He said he wanted to bring him back and he did.

Wow, love the player, hoping he would fill a gap in Buffalo actually. I think this is an overpay though. Good for Luke though.

Very solid player in Rochester with an occasional Cup of Coffee in the NHL. Like this as a depth signing.

He looked great in his NHL debut and we’ve seen his work in Rochester. This is a great signing.

Seems like Leadership and Loyalty are worth something in the Sabres organization. This contract is a reward that the Sabres can afford pay at this moment in time. He’s great in his role. I wanna see some AHL prospects too but this won’t block them.

BUF adds high second for trade back amp Olf
They are only swapping 1sts essentially 6 positions. Unless there is something really attractive at 13 by all means stay there but if not the difference between 13 and 19 is a coin flip. Adding a high second could easily be a late 1st in value and be a likely NHL player in time. You’re rolling the dice outside the top ten. I’d rather have 2 rolls over 1 on hitting on a NHL contributor

Who would vote no on this? 6’3”, 200 Lbs gritty defensive Defenceman playing in the KHL under 20. Sabres desperately need to stockpile D prospects as well. Great ELC signing

Like Korpisalo and Gavrikov chose to go to LA? Should Bedard just get to pick what team he plays for? Business and contacts are different from freedom of choice in other aspects of life.. Clearly a distinction not recognized based on your comment. You want to play in the NHL you follow the rules, my point is the rule needs to be changed otherwise College prospects are a major risk.
I don’t think anybody is against freedom of choice, fairness in draft pick destination for all NHL organizations is another issue.

Yes, it’s a good signing but I think players who don’t want to sign with the team that drafted them are selfish D-Bags. Has put the Sabres years behind with this pick even though they got something for him luckily. There needs to be a rule in the NHL you play with the team that drafted you or you don’t play in the NHL. Drafting College players is more risky than drafting Russians.

Buffalo Sabres signed Devon Levi (3 Years / $1,566,667 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gopherit</b></div><div>Wild fan here. I assume Samuelsson is one of the "legit top 4 shutdown defender(s)" you are referring to. Is Power not a shutdown defender? I'm curious as to what BUF fans feel about Power, Dahlin, Jokiharju, Lyubushkin, & Stillman. Along with Ryan Johnson (who's killing it for my Minnesota Golden Gophers).</div></div>
Yes, if we clone SAMUELSSON x 4 it would be perfect. My point is we need more of that. Power and Dahlin is excellent but are more offensively focused, they both roll the dice too much with defensive coverage, but manage it well. Jokiharju is quick and skilled not spectacular at defence or offence. Stillman is a boarderline NHL/AHL defender. I like Lyibushkin as a 3-7 defender. We need an upgrade on what’s left.
We just lost 7-0 to Boston and 10-4 to Dallas. Our defence is our biggest issue because we can fill the net on the other end.
I’m going to upset some but UPL is not an NHL goalie (I think his save percentage is 50/50 LOL) as least not yet. Hopefully Levi is the guy, seems early for him to jump into NHL but we’ll see.
To be fair our actual defenders skills are above adequate. I feel more our defensive problems are 1) lack of a true #1 goalie and 2) Coaches that have no idea how to scheme team defensive NZ and DZ coverage because we do have the horsepower.
Back to my original point of wanting a shutdown defender, yes I prefer Samualsson type defenders. Ie: Trade Jokiharju for a Gavrikov type player. But at the same time we also need team defensive commitment and better Coaching in this area.

Our goaltending and team defence is atrocious. This is a step in the right direction. We need another legit top 4 shutdown defender and team defence to clean up our own end and playoffs could actually be a realistic expectation in 2024. Could happen in 2023 but seems like a stretch this year. Fingers crossed 🤞

(BUF/NSH) - Asplund for 7th
What are you going to do? He wasn’t a fit in the Buffalo lineup, mainly because there are more desirable options available. GMKA did him a favour and put him in a spot where he could succeed, and open a spot for a prospect

I like this, I’d be nice to have a checking line with some edge. Something the Sabres don’t do well is physical play. I late second and a 5th round round pick are magic beans that may or may not even play in the NHL. So we have something tangible that fills a minor need. Sad part is, our biggest need, Defence and Goaltending was not addressed! Hopefully at the Draft or off season

(BUF/CHI) - Bjork for future considerations
It’s clear Bjork wasn’t a fit in Buffalo but he a a contributor at the AHL Level. Seems odd Rochester isn’t at least getting something back. Don’t think anyone is concerned with his Cap hit is minimal. The winner of tbis trade is Bjork as maybe he’s have an NHL shot again in Chicago

I’d say a fair trade. He was a 3rd round pick in the first place. Word is he wasn’t going to sign with the Sabres so it’s a good return and really a win for both clubs.

This may be the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen GMKA do. Bloom is an awesome prospect that could easily turn into something much more. Don’t understand why you’d trade for a bottom pair defender.

Philadelphia Flyers signed Travis Sanheim (8 Years / $6,250,000 AAV)
No Trade Protection (that I can see listed) so it will always be an asset / trading chip for Flyers. If it goes full rebuild mode some team would be happy to pick up a solid D-Man at at market value contract. As years go by Cap hit will seem cheaper with cap probably going up.

Buffalo Sabres signed Mattias Samuelsson (7 Years / $4,285,714 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dannibalcorpse</b></div><div>Samuelsson being a $7M player in 2026-27 is probably the top 25% of outcomes if we're being generous - not saying that he's a bum, but that I could easily sit here and find 3 guys who flamed out after a good half-season for every defensive Dman you could bring up that wound up being a $7M player by the end of his RFA years.
The overpay now is strategic, obviously GMKA and team see the value here and willing to commit he’ll be part of the core moving forward. Sure they are projections and speculations but that’s part of being a GM, and their judgement is good enough for me.
Buffalo has a boatload of Cap Space and to not weaponize take advantage of it in some way would be neglectful</div></div>
