I'm personally not a fan, but see the value. Kickstarting the demise of the franchise is tough, but I think the leadership is still important especially for the team. ZP was always the kind of player and forechecker that caused others to not take shifts off. Between the two I'd rather him over AJ, completely forgot about Holtz. AJ is interesting because I cant tell if he stinks or had an off year. I think the parise, henrique, johnsson line would be interesting. But I'm updating to add holtz

What do you think should be added? Given he was on waivers, I'm looking at it like ANA wants to move the contract

They have a ton of it, the issue is they are in the pipeline and not quite ready yet lol. The last couple of drafts they've been looking for thiccc boys and kids who play heavy.

Right now, Nico is not looking like a top line center. It is possible that he is developing slower, but it is also possible that he never was meant to peak there. I see him as RNH comparable - the ideal 2nd liner but not somebody who will drive the top line.
I'll give you according to your name though, he does seem like more of captain material than any of your other prospects.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Nhl_oilers</b></div><div>Care to explain?</div></div>
sure, but i'd expect you to also explain why hes not a 1C.
He's playing top line center on a bad team at age 21. He's not big but hes very strong protecting the puck and in the corners. He's extremely defensively responsible and is a leader in the room. His play gets better as the situation gets tougher, he can be counted on in all situations, and with all of this he's played through nothing but headwinds from both a teammate perspective, coaching perspective, system perspective, etc.
He's getting stronger each season and its beginning to show in the faceoff circle. On top of that he's playing more with the puck on his stick which is why hes scored more highlight type goals recently. He's 21 and only getting better

where does drysdale, byram, sanderson, soderstrom, hughes, makar, and smith fall if you had to place them in terms of ceiling as a top pairing d?

Sometimes it's just time to get behind something and that's why I'd trade all of them. But I agree with you: We are not forced (financially and all other aspects) to make any of those moves.
And if you look at my ACGM I've got 3 rookies/young players with very little experience in our bottom 6 and that's also very unlikely to happen.</div></div>
im all aboard mueller and mcleoud - i just personally don't understand the hate against wood (from everyone). my theory is that he has so many chances and doesnt bury that many but would you rather someone that buries a higher percentage of the time but generates very little chances? and in reality hes still so young and his production isn't going to lead to a large contract so hes an incredibly valueable depth piece imo

I don't see Wood's value higher than that after the last two seasons. I'd even say he wouldn't be a regular on many teams and for that his contract is terrible.
Same with McLeod (look back at what we got for Quenneville who also was a former first rounder). No one cares about where he was drafted, the results just aren't there.</div></div>
I couldn't disagree with your statement more
Wood is 24 and an absolute wrecking ball. If he's smart, he'll train with a guy like oates and work on finishing some of the grade a chances he creates. Hes big, fast, and a matchup nightmare. you don't give away guys like that. on top of that youre trading a prospect to get back an awful pick. who does this help? we're not even cap strapped we have enough money to sign half a roster this offseason.
im undecided on the mcleoud trade, idc if we trade him tbh, i'm unsure if cole is the guy to package him for. Maybe, hes certainly having a fine year

Maybe Expedite the Rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Subbanator7667</b></div><div>What makes you think they are going to improve next year to the point that thier 1st isnt going to most likely be a top 10 pick?
I actually really like Wood, fast, physical, and plays a complete game. Think they were smart to keep him around through the deadline.</div></div>
This year quite literally everything went wrong. On top of that we had 0 goaltending for 50% of the season, as well as an unmotivated team and garbage system. Despite all of that, we are moving in the wrong direction for the lottery because the team is finally developing towards understanding the intangibles.
The ownership showed, too late imo, but showed they are not here for another rebuild. Which translates to a proven coach with a proven system for next season.
The young kids started to show some bite, nico, jack, pavel and jesper..at a certain point the frustration boils over. It was dumbfounding how long it took this team to show any emotion.
Ty smith wasn't ready last year but you better believe he will be this year. The defense will be addressed and improved, which should lead to better goaltending for anyone that plays in net
and for the first time in a long time binghampton is actually playing meaningful hockey that might actually improve the players in our system.
On top of all of this, we have an astronomical amount of cap space that can be spent or weaponized to retool and address needs.
Gusev is a star, Nico and Bratt keep getting better. Zacha will be and is an essential part of this team, and Jack will put on some weight. There is a lot going for this team and a lot to like for players on the move to consider when evaluating ntc's and free agency. Of course theres a chance they stink and draft bottom ten, but in actuality this year was more of a fluke in my opinion. I expect marked improvement next year.
I also believe Blackwood is going to make waves next year, I think hes going to be a top goalie for the next few years, which certainly raises expectations.
Oh and I also expect PK to be much better next year, now that he's healthy, he'll be focusing more on mobility which should serve him well

They're not going to be a bottom 5 team in the standings (lottery anything can happen). I think trading wood and a 1st is a mistake, i dont think labanc fills a real need.
I'm prob the minority but teams wish they had someone like wood, you have to remember hes still only 24 and hes the kind of guy that really makes a difference come playoffs. hes big, strong, fast, and occasionally finds his hands.
The fans are impatient and haven't seen this because we haven't played meaningful hockey in a long time, but wood brings a different element and anyone with eyes can see he creates havoc all over the ice for everyone lol
