I don’t see why the Panthers would do this, it certainly doesn’t make them a better team this year.

When you proposed this trade did you try and structure it so both fan bases would think “why?”. The trade doesn’t give either team anything that they really need.

Florida isn’t doing this. They don’t want that cap hit for a soon to be 35 year old for the next 3 seasons. They would have no chance of signing Huberdeau to an extension. They could get a younger Chychrun for those assets, and he has a better contract.

Not sure if Driedger is an upgrade
I think Driedger is better than anything the Oilers have now. He was really good in Florida the past two years. He was making the saves on Yandle giveaways when Bob couldn’t. He should be used to a run and gun offense in front of him.

KLINGBERG NEW DEAL FLA
This may sound crazy but I don’t think the Panthers do this for a rental. Their need is to add a defenseman. Right now the weakest position on the team is the sixth D spot. Adding Klingberg would be great because all the other D could slide down a spot and make the 6D much stronger. But giving up Montour in the deal ruins that. He also has 2 more seasons on his contract at a fair AAV. Giving up Eetu would really hurt chemistry, as he has centered the 4th line which has been a very good energy line that is sent out at critical times. Also, it is the one line that has stayed intact most the season, as the other lines have missed players due to injury / Covid.

After watching the Panthers smoke Dallas 7-1, and Klingberg being a -3 we will withdraw this trade proposal as we don’t need him.

Three-pronged trade
You never understood my original point. The Panthers are looking to upgrade their D. It is the number 6 D, and depth that will hurt them in the playoffs. Rank them where you want, but Gudas and Montour are currently our 4&5D. We wouldn’t want to give up either of them for D help. So this trade doesn’t work for the Panthers.

Three-pronged trade
Why would Florida do this. They don’t need to swap D, they need to add depth at D. And they give up 2 picks and get back an older player that is not having as good a year as the player they give up. No!

Help with proposed trade, salary retention
I want to propose a trade between 3 teams. It has salary retention of the same contract by 2 teams to make it work. This has been done before in the NHL so the final team only gets hit for 25% of the AAV (David Savard from CBJ to Tampa, with Detroit involved to retain some AAV). How do I do this in the trade machine?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NCPANTHER1</b></div><div>The problem with signing Reinhart to a long term deal is after this season the Yandle buyout balloons to $5.5m and Barkov's extension will kick in and he's going to almost double his salary.</div></div>
But others come off the books. Stralman and Vatrano and Nutivarra. Luongo dead money goes away. There should be room for Barkov and even Verhaeghe if he has another good year. Worry about the year after that. Huby, Weegar, and Spencer Knight (at least he is RFA). That’s why you want more than 1 year deals for Bennett and Reinhardt. You need that locked in. Hopefully by then there is some solution to Bob’s contract.

Florida declines. Tippets going to be good, made progress this year. He’s RFA after next year, but without arbitration rights, so his price won’t be to bad. We need that to help sign Barkov and Huberdeau.

I tried to do something similar. Yours looks better because you only have 22 players. I added 3 scratched players for a 25 man roster which I think is more realistic. That added about $2.25M.

I don’t think the Panthers give up that many draft positions to get rid of Stralman’s salary. It’s only 1 year left and he’s a good insurance policy if you have a D get injured or a young one not develop as planned. Maybe for one of your earlier second round picks.

Why in the world would the Panthers do that. Give up a guy who they used a #13 pick on, and is ready to play (not to mention probably help the Bob situation in future years), for 2 second round picks. I’ll tell you what, we’ll send you Bob and give you 2 second round picks for taking him.

And the pick is #20 so it’s not like it is an early lottery pick. However, we do have another defenseman that you might be interested in. He’s very reliable, never misses a game, and has ties to New England. 😂

Why would the Panthers give up Marchment for a goalie they don’t need. Suban would be lucky to start on the Panthers AHL team. No chance he would make the NHL club. Why would they give up a forward that played significant minutes on the top line for just Suban?

The arrogance of Leafs fans. Why in the world would the Panthers make that trade? We wouldn’t make a 1 for 1 trade let alone throw in a 1st rounder. Wait, did you maybe forget to add that you were taking on Bob’s contract. Then this trade might make sense.

Oh, no doubt about it. Boy do I wish there was an easy way out of Bob’s contract.
One other thing, I wouldn’t resign Wennberg. I think Anton Lundell will be up to fill a center position. That takes about $2M more off future years to sign those players.
