On Cap Friendly, it is all numbers like cap dollars and stats. But there is a human element to the game too. His children are in the Okanagan and he misses his children. Why would you expect Duncan Keith to give it 110% for Chicago after you did not accommodate his reasonable request?

100% agree. Benson/McCleod/Marody was the top line in the AHL and they are all ready to play in the NHL on a 3rd or 4th line. But for whatever reason, Benson and Marody keep getting snubbed. I guess it is that Benson and Marody do not have blazing speed or size, which is what Holland wants. Go figure.

RIGHT???!!! I do not see why Holland does not give Benson and Marody a season in the NHL instead of signing players from Europe like Haas and Nygard . . . I just want Marody to get a chance somewhere if they are not going to use him in Edmonton. Philly seems like a great team for letting rookies play big roles.

Holland had to overpay people in Detroit to keep the Wings' playoff streak alive. In Edmonton he's been very, very cautious about term and cap hit, so this Duncan Keith rumor has me scratching my head. That said, it terrifies me as well.

So scared that Holland is going to do something stupid.</div></div>
Me too. I am just going off the reports saying that Chicago wants to open up lots of cap space to sign Seth Jones or someone like that. That seems unrealistic to me honestly. To me, the more likely scenario is that Chicago takes back some salary, albeit not as much as it loses. I honestly do not care so much about Jones because I am so bullish on the guys coming up behind him like Broberg and Samorukov.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stan_Bowman</b></div><div>Chicago rejects.</div></div>
Sorry but I do not think Chicago has much say in the matter at the point at which Keith asked for a trade to Western Canada. Who is going to eat that cap hit?
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>Says terrible contract in description, but doesn't realize his salary is $1.8M per year. AND, also puts him in the 2nd pair... sounds right...</div></div>
I think "cap hit" is really the issue. Salary would only matter if Daryl Katz was broke and it mattered. Edmonton is a very lucrative team. 2nd Pairing in Edmonton does not matter much because Darnell Nurse is a minute horse. Keith would play less than 18 minutes a night on the second pairing on this team.

Oh I see your point now. Yeah, I would have Benson in the lineup and ease Broberg and Holloway into the lineup. But yeah, it might make more sense to have the latter two in the AHL and call up Marody. Defensemen often need many years in the minors, but not forwards, IMO. At some point in the minors forwards stop "developing" and stagnate. I honestly do not see how much better Benson/Marody would be after another year in the minors. They are as ready as they are ever going to be.

We also need a starting goalie, which I believe Holland will go for Petr Mrazek... but I hope for Linus Ullmark. I have never been a fan of Chris Driedger.</div></div>
Good points. With goalies you really never know. Who would have pegged Smith to shine like he did this year? Who would have picked Koskinen's game to fall off so bad? Remember the chorus of people wanting to sign Markstrom, Holtby, and Korpisalo, etc. over the summer?

One of the worst contracts in the NHL . . . If the Leafs had to pay 1st to get rid of $6m of Patrick Marleau for 1 season, then I don't see why this is an overpay for several years of OEL.

It is a dumb trade from EDMONTON's perspective. Why not just play Kahun with McDavid instead of give up assets for Dzingel who costs 3 times more?

Aside from that, I think nuge has found success on the wing and maybe a guy like haula could be had for a third line role.</div></div>
I feel like I am taking crazy pills, but I just don't see Nuge as having much chemistry with McDavid. Wingers are easier to come by than centermen, so I was thinking of an internal solution to the 3C problem.

If the Oilers are so bad, how come they were No. 1 in Canada last year? More importantly, who in their right mind would think that Toronto would be No. 1?
Goaltending? Let's look at goaltending NUMBERS for a minute:
1. WPG - Connor Hellebuyck SV % .922
2. CGY - Jacob Markstrom SV % .918
3. EDM - Mikko Koskinen SV % .917
4. MTL - Carey Price SV % .909
5. TOR - Freddie Andersen SV % .909 <<<
