It does save them 1.5 in cap hit for next year as well.

Solve Big Problems
Hmm...the first-round-pick is for taking Mrazek's contract. Then a 2nd for Reimer and a 2nd for Middleton, plus having to take on Dermott's contract; doesn't seem like high enough a price, let alone the Sharks are giving Balcers, too? Feels like some other assets have to be coming back to SJ.
It also seems like Toronto is in this unenviable position where they are so cap-constrained that they can't think about fit/chemistry/character, only cap hit...like, Middleton would be a good fit, but Balcers is another soft/skilled winger and Reimer wasn't TML's solution in net for years.

Maybe. He's cheaper, would be cheaper to re-sign, and is a pending RFA

Sharks have no need for either player. 2nd round pick is nice but I imagine that they could get more for Middleton alone...

DNVR lets go nuts
Someone like Ranta has no value to a team like San Jose, they have plenty of those players. I think they'll want someone like Barron, if not someone like Newhook with no first-rounder coming back.

It's not terrible value for SJ; I also happen to really like Barron. But...does Compher have positive value at this point? Maybe neutral value, at best...and that first-rounder is for next year as well...I think Colorado has to add.

That trade is basically a 3rd for Reimer. Sharks could do better. I'd imagine they could even get a first from a desperate team.

Counting on Bordeleau as the #2C is a big ask.
I can't see Barabanov re-signing with the team that traded him. It just doesn't happen!
Labanc probably has negative value at this point. Blichfeld is not worth much.

Sharks sell off
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>There are too many goalies available to get an overpay IMO.
Here’s a non-exhaustive list of names who will likely be on the market in 5 weeks:
Varlamov
Holtby
Fleury
Korpisalo
Halak
Khudobin
Allen
Dell
Greiss
Jones
Reimer
Anderson
With maybe 3 teams looking to acquire a goalie, the market is flooded. Reimer's is one of the better names, but I don't think you can expect an overpay.</div></div>
Keep in mind that Reimer isn't a rental, with one more year left on his deal.

If the Sharks are taking all that cap back AND giving up a solid rental in Barabanov, I think a first-round pick has to be coming back.

Sharks sell off
It seems like the price for a top-quality rental is a very good prospect, a roster player, and a first-round-pick. In the Avalanche trade, it's Barron, the first, and then Kaut+3rd in lieu of the roster player. I suppose Colorado fans think Kaut and Barron are top-quality prospects? To me, Barron is solidly a B-level prospect (more top-4 than top-pairing guy) and Kaut is someone with rock-bottom stock who needs a change of scenery. Not to mention that the pick will be next year, and likely quite late.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>The Reimer ask is way too rich. Declined.</div></div>
I agree that it's an overpayment. I'm hoping Edmonton is desperate enough. After all, they have a history of goaltending rentals working out very well for them.

OK so generally "forward core" doesn't mean ALL the forwards. Forward core means the "core" of your forwards; your very best forwards.
Anyways, Compher would at best be 8th among the Sharks forwards, and easily the least valuable because of his contract. Compher is better than Nieto; I Comper at 1.3 over Nieto at league min. But I easily take Nieto at league min over Compher at 3.5.

Stop acting like he is some sort of Black Plague player, he is a good useful player that is a tad bit over priced, what you are saying about his is jus straight up lies. You can say you just dont like him as a player, dont flie in an effort to belittle him and make it seem he is worse than he is</div></div>
What is the Sharks's forward core, then? Let's see if that's where the confusion arises...

....How so? Who is the Sharks's forward core, exactly, and how is he better than half?
He's a low-end third-liner/high-end fourth-liner who is overpaid in a league where the cap is ~7 million less than what it *should* have been.
