Really? We already know that Fitzy offered up Holtz in a Markstrom deal. We’re only a year removed from Fitzy refusing to include Holtz in a Meier deal who happened to be the biggest fish on the market. Now he’s offering him and more for a 34 year old goalie

In this market, he absolutely is. Who are we to talk? We have Korpisalo and Vanecek as our goalies who are arguably the 2 worst in the NHL

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Holtz on a bridge, sure.
Mercer and Luke need to be locked up with term</div></div>
If you want Mercer on a 7-8 year deal this offseason, that’s probably gonna take 6-6.5m like Hagel got in TB. I wouldn’t even consider offering him that deal rn with the way he’s played this year. You can get him at 3.5m for 3 years and then when 2027-2028 season comes along, you sign him to a longer term deal around 7m if you want

The guys I’ve bridged here line up to other guys expiration dates such as Palat and Hamilton. Luke very well may end up getting an 8 year extension because in Fitzy’s eyes, the Hughes brothers can do no wrong, but a bridge for Mercer, Holtz, and Bahl definitely makes the most sense

Hanifin and Gibson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>But let's do some simple math.
You have UFA hanifin valued here at 7 million. (market value) You're buying 1 year of him at 5 mill. That is 2 mill in surplus value.
Let's conservatively value Siegenthaler at the graves deal of 4.5 mill. That is 5.5 mill in surplus value there.</div></div>
The way you’re looking at it isn’t reality tho. The first thing you have to take into account is the quality of player. Siegenthaler is a 2nd pairing dman while Hanifin is a top pairing dman which is why he’s worth the 7m. Tbh, Siegs for the better part of the past year has been one of the most inconsistent players on the team. He was god awful today vs the Habs. So yeah maybe we have him a million under market value, but that doesn’t mean he’s unmovable if you can land a player like Hanifin

They’re not gonna be able to give everyone 6-8 year extensions. You need to be able to bridge certain guys in order to add to your roster

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dubcity</b></div><div>Calgary declines not taking back Siegenthaler in a small deal like that</div></div>
Small deal? You’re getting back a 26 year old top 4 dman on an extremely team friendly deal in addition to a potential top 9 winger and a 1st round pick. If you think you’re gonna get more than this, you’re not gonna like what you get when Hanifin actually gets moved

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>Then get more retention on Gibson. At the price you're paying you certainly can. Or go for a cheaper cap option like Pettersson instead of Hanifin. If you're trying to shed cap 3.4 mill on siegs isn't the way to do it</div></div>
Pettersson will be at 4m in 24-25, but then he’ll be due for an extension as well that will probably pay him 5.5-6.5; Hanifin is a much better player. If acquiring Hanifin means dealing Siegenthaler, I don’t even think twice and I’m not a Kevin Bahl fan. Even if you’re not confident in Bahl for 24-25, you can sign someone like Kulikov for 1m on a 1 year deal. Not gonna get more retention on Gibson with his term and them taking Vanecek back

He’s sub .900 in the AHL & on a bad contract that will have quite a large QO when it’s over
Keeping the 1st is not a positive if you’re trading Holtz.
Holtz > mid 1st rd pick</div></div>
The goalie market is very inflated rn and Knight has star potential. Despite his .896 sv%, he still possesses a 2.71 GAA. Through 57 NHL games, he has a career 2.91 GAA and a .906 sv%. Those numbers are good enough for the Devils and should improve as he gets older. I am personally a big fan of Holtz, but Ruff doesn't like him. With Siegenthaler back tn, there's a good chance Brendan Smith goes to 4LW and Holtz finds himself scratched for the first time this season

Holtz for Markstrom Retained
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WranglerWranglin</b></div><div>No one is saying it's not a fair offer, it is, there's just not incentive for Calgary to do it. They have a blue chip prospect in net and a goalie to shelter the hell out of him if they so choose. Wolf has proven nothing at the NHL level yet and until he does the Flames should not throw him into the fire with Vladar. Unless the pros seriously outweigh the cons Calgary has no reason to make the deal.</div></div>
I think CGY is already past that point in terms of their thinking. James Nichols already reported that they approached Markstrom about waiving his NTC and he approved. If there wasn't a retention issue, this deal would be done already. CGY seems to be comfortable parting with Markstrom and running with Wolf/Vanecek/Vladar for the next few years. Where are you guys really going these next few years? Let's be honest
