Hall and Vat to WPG comments please
Winnipeg says no. No need to move Laine, and for Trouba I think we'd want back something younger and a bit cheaper long term.

Give us this day our daily Trouba
How about this: Trouba and Little for Santini, Zajac, and either the 1st round pick in 2020 or Mcleod and your 2nd round pick 2019
The Jets Biggest needs are RH defense and center. LH defense and wingers they have a plenty.
To offset the downgrade from Trouba to Santini, the Jets would probaby like a prospect at center. You have Hishier and are going to have Hughes so McLeod is expendable. However, there is no guarantee that McLeod or the pick will become a top 6 forward, so the Jets are still taking alll the risk in the deal.
What might entice them to make a deal with Jersey would be to take Little's contract which has 5 years left in exchange for Zajacs which has 2 years left. This would give the Jets more cap space after 2 years when Laine's bridge expires

Devils need Trouba
Retain 50% on Sami, swap Zacha out for Mcleod (solves the RFA issue with PZ, cheaper too)
Santini and Speers to Tor for Kappy (cant say it enough huh Kog?)

This is one of the best Devils predictions I've seen.
I agree that you might have to sweeten the deal for Trouba though. Maybe switch out Noesen for a Mcleod/ Quenneville/ Zetterlund?

What Teams Actually Want to Make a Move for Brodie

If Boston I would want 62 and 96, Calgary could chip in a late pick for it.

What I would try to do if I were GM
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dodger510</b></div><div>Devils would accept, because you're right to doubt McLeod. He hasn't proved anything. In my opinion you're better off asking for a later 2nd round pick and a better prospect – NSH 2nd and Nathan Bastian or BOS 2nd and Joey Anderson. I don't think McLeod is in the NHL in 2-3 years, but as a fan I hope he figures it out.</div></div>
Devs would probably do any of those. I'd prefer Joey A and the Bos second.
Bastian can be that net front guy, started to show his worth real late in the season
Mcleod is a late bloomer, but I get it. He's gonna be that middling guy who will probably replace zajac

Likely true ... as long as it fits under their cap, which is problematic. They will want Bratt. Need scoring.

Best I Could Do
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dodger510</b></div><div>I think you're technically over the cap with Horton included on Day 1 of the season or however that works. Can someone explain that to me?
In this scenario, wouldn't TOR need to create the $5.3m needed by sending players on 2-way contracts down on paper... don't think enough $ qualifies to cover Horton.</div></div>
Cap still works. Horton remains on the cap until opening day, you're correct. But during the off-season teams are allowed to exceed the cap by 10% (roughly $8.3M next season) so Horton's cap hit is fine. The second the puck is dropped in game 1, he's allowed to be placed on LTIR and therefore Toronto wouldn't be over the cap because they're allowed to exceed the upper limit by the amount on LTIR. Essentially Toronto is allowed to go over the cap by $5.3M next season and they're compliant because Horton's cap hit doesn't count towards the playable amount of cap space used. It's legal

Devils next year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dodger510</b></div><div>I think Ty Smith makes the team next year, so I'm not sure Mueller AND Carrick are both with the big club when the season starts. 2-way contracts would be ideal, but I hope they improve the defense in other ways before next season. We can't just keep throwing the same players out there and expect different results.</div></div>
Ty Smith 100% in the lineup game 1 next season. It's not fair, but Mueller over Carrick because of the price paid to obtain Mueller.

Nylander Trade
Take Marleau out and replace him with Zaitsev. Also drop the NSH 2nd rounder from the trade. If you do that, it is pretty even for both sides.
NJ receives:
Nylander
Zaitsev
TOR receives:
Severson
McLeod
Speers
2019 BOS 2nd
2019 DAL 3rd

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dodger510</b></div><div>How would you modify the trade to adjust? No picks at all?</div></div>
If you're looking for just Nylander, Severson straight up is pretty close to fair value. If you're willing to take on Marleau's deal:
:devils
William Nylander
Patrick Marleau
TOR 2020 2nd round pick
TOR 2021 5th round pick
:mapleleafs
Damon Severson
Blake Speers
seems more fair since New Jersey is taking big money off the Leafs cap

Nylander Trade
I love Nylander and I've backed him up and will continue to back him up..... BUT.. if this is the deal in front of Dubas, I'd drive Nylander to New Jersey myself. & You're taking Marleau's contract if he retires? .. What's Nylander's new address in New Jersey? I'll have him there by sunrise tomorrow.
That is actually a pretty big package, and most definitely now "buying low" as you've suggested.
Deal.
