One more splash
I like the addition, I just don't think you have the cap space if you want to keep Hall / Bratt / Hischier / Blackwood around next season. Maybe moving Kyle Palmieri would help in your scenario, but I think the Duchene move puts us in a bad cap situation for next season.

Get even more talent
I don't think Zacha gets a "prove it deal" – I think he is what he is. If you give him like 4 x $2.5m I bet he'd sign it and even if he fails he's set for life with $12m in the bank.
I think he's the embodiment of "gripping the stick too tightly" and a short term deal is going to put a lot of pressure on him. Plus if he breaks out, $2.5-3m is a steal.

2.38 GAA over his last 13 starts of last season with a LOT of prospects / call-ups playing in front of him – that's the Cory I'm looking for.

Taylor Hall
Before I get into anything, Taylor Hall just won Most Valuable Player in the NHL at Left Wing. You probably shouldn't move him to center.
Your trade logic isn't terrible, but it's exactly why this type of trade would never happen. If the Devils traded Hall, it would be to a team that has a chance to re-sign him, and it would include conditional picks based on that. Hall would not sign an extension in Buffalo. If he leaves NJ, it's because he wants to "win now", and Buffalo isn't any closer to a Stanley Cup than the Devils are.
In my opinion, the Jets lost the Trouba deal when they wouldn't let him discuss an extension with NYR, and not including conditional picks. There is no way the Devils would accept this trade, they would get a much better offer from another team.

NJ Fans whats fair value for Zacha
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gregb569</b></div><div>overpay by NJ</div></div>
I'm fine with it if it happens on draft day. The Devils have 3 2nd Round Picks this year including #34, and they're getting Jack Hughes... you're going to have a good draft class.
Not saying it's ok to throw picks away, but since they're picking #55, #61, and #70, I think I can spare one for exactly the type of speedy young winger that can play with Jack Hughes for the next 4+ years.

I think that deals makes sense from the Leafs perspective. Gives them a 3C so they can move Kadri for RD help and they have RW depth anyway.</div></div>
If they keep Zacha they'll probably try him at wing, maybe even with Hughes at some point. Personally I'd rather have the natural winger in Kapanen there and he and Hughes can grow together.
However, Zacha is pretty good defensively, and could take over the "Zajac Role" of defensive-minded C / matchup play / penalty killing in 2 years if / when Zajac is gone.

I'll take a stab at it: Zacha + 2nd Rounder for Kasperi Kapanen (preferably tonight / tomorrow and it's NSH or BOS pick)
Both are RFA's, Kapanen is going to cost more than Zacha, should work out contract wise for both teams.

I'd probably do that Hall trade, but too much relies on who Chicago takes.
Kakko #1, Turcotte #4 would be slick – or Hughes #1, and Bowen #4.

Does Shero Move 34th Pick
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wingert41326</b></div><div>Do you see him packaging the 34th and another pick/prospect or roster player for an impact player on a cap strapped team?</div></div>
Ha, I mean anything is possible, but Devils fans tend to over-value their prospects – the cupboard is pretty bare. I wouldn't mind making every single pick this weekend to be honest.
The good thing is that we have so many young players already on the NHL roster or fighting for the last spots like Quenville / McLeod / Bastian / Anderson, etc., but past that fringe NHL player there's not a whole lot there.
Shero also doesn't do as well as people think he does when he gives picks and receives players. He hit a home run with Kyle Palmieri, but beyond that the list is shakey:
Patrick Maroon for a 3rd – not bad.
Michael Grabner for a 2nd – terrible.
Marcus Johansson for a 2nd & 3rd – injuries kinda ruined that one.
Mirco Mueller for a 2nd & 4th – terrible.
Beau Bennet for a 3rd – bad.
That's a lot of picks that could be prospects in our organization right now.
Anything can happen though!

Agreed. I could see him using it to trade up as well, back into the first round, or up to 32 after day 1 if their guy is still there – hopefully someone like Vlasic or somehow Cam York.

Vegas trade - Nyquist and Boyle signing
I don't think Vegas really has a reason to trade Tuch, he's well worth his cap hit – he's the guy you move other people for in order to keep.
That said, that return doesn't get you Miller AND Tuch – those are the best 2 players in the entire trade.

Marner Offersheet NSH VGK
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>While there might be a gentlemen's agreement regarding offer sheets, you have demostrated why so few are presented or signed. Likely a non playoff team is the only team with cap and do they want to risk lottery picks? In Marner's case does. he want to play for Jersey for 11.25 or remain a Leaf for 10.5? Imagine if Hirschier has a breakout year, does he warrant 9m and Josi wants a raise to stay.. Suddenly the Devils are against the cap with no first rounders. Signing Panarin or a UFA or next year and keeping the picks might be of more value to the Devils.</div></div>
Totally agree, it's a risk – but I feel the Devils have a lot of good young pieces in place who will only get better. In year 2 of this scenario I clear $28m in cap space, not counting any potential cap increases. I also have Kyle Palmieri entering the last year of his deal at $4.5m – a great number if I need to trade him, and could potentially even fetch a 1st at the deadline to recoop some assets.

Year 1 is definitely a gamble, and maybe this is a homer pick, but I think this squad would be a playoff team by year 2, or at least knocking on the door and have 5% odds – picking 12-15ish. But I've traded Taylor Hall here, so we won't win the lottery.
2020 1st: #1-10
2021 1st: #10-15
2022 1st: #20-25 – if this is a down year, Seattle also enters the NHL and the odds could change.
2023 1st: #32, haha
Definitely wishful thinking, but I'll trade an 11% chance at 1st overall for a 100% chance at Mitch Marner. It's really not the draft that bothers me about it, it's "what else could you acquire with 4 1st round picks?" – the sky is the limit there.

The Devils actually have a lot of guys that play RD, the depth chart on here is a little wacky. Severson, Vatanen, Ty Smith, and Santini all play RD. Will Butcher played LD this season because we were so shallow at that position, but he also played RD in college and in his first year in the NHL played the right side, then got moved to the left – and had a down year.

Coleman is the better player – by a lot in my opinion. Eakin put up his numbers on a GREAT Vegas team, while Coleman put his up on a TERRIBLE New Jersey squad. Coleman plays in all situations – he's one of the best penalty killers on the team and got some power play time at the end of the season. Coleman is also younger, cheaper, and is locked in for 2 more years VS Eakin's 1.
I don't think Blake Coleman is going anywhere for a while, unless someone overpays. Cody Eakin ain't it.
