I’d be willing to swap McLeod for Merkley if it meant giving up a 4th or 5th next year instead of the 3rd. If the value is the same and NJ can’t fetch an additional late round pick, I’d still rather give up McLeod...

Honestly, I don’t think Duclair is worth a 1st. He started hot then really fell off a cliff.
I’d use that 1st to at least start a conversation for Dunn, Sergachev, or Devon Toews.
I definitely like the Mikael Granlund signing though.

So THAT’S why you resigned Mueller! lol
I keep seeing non NJ fans resigning him in AGMs for that same kind of contract, but any Devils fan will tell you that he’s worth more to us getting an offer sheet at that price so we can be compensated a 3rd round pick. Not faulting anyone for it, seeing as they probably don’t watch much Devils hockey, but the guy is a dumpster fire.

100% agree. DeMelo in a bottom 4 role to help Smith is something I’ve been thinking for a while. Dunn or Toews would be fantastic, and I honestly wouldn’t mind paying Dillon.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Isles777</b></div><div>I would overpay Dillon on AAV to keep the term down. Maybe something like 4.5 x 3. I think that's fine for his age 30, 31, 32 years. </div></div>
I think this deal is perfect. With the team NH is putting on the ice now, they will have to overpay guys to play there. They have plenty of cap to do it, and I believe Dillon will be very serviceable the length of that contract.

NJ Devils
I love Maroon, but I think he would take a cheaper deal to play for a winning team like he did this year.
Krug won’t sign in NJ unless he’s making more than $8mil, and even then he still may pass in favor of a playoff team.
I really like Kuokkanen, and it would be tough for me to see him go after a handful of games in Bingo and with the big club. But Puljujarvi may be worth it... I’m not quite on his hype train like everyone else just yet.
Overall I like the team though. Definitely strengthens a desperate RW core and I am a huge fan of the Granlund idea. Contracts for Mac and Bratt are fair. Keeping some sandpaper in the bottom six with Maroon and resigning Hayden. BUT, you resigned Mueller so I can’t give it a passable grade lol

Playoff Time
I think Barrie is just another version of Subban. Non existent this season, turn over happy, right handed, “offensive” defenseman. Not worth that much money, and definitely not worth that term.
Krug won’t play in NJ unless it’s for a kings ransom north of $8mil.
Sevo is worth way more than that to most teams.
Term is fine for Blackwood, but he and Bratt would be grossly underpaid.
But, bravo on not resigning Mueller.

I probably should have covered that trade as well. That’s essentially for anyone who would want him in exchange for a mid round pick. I think any one of the younger guys like Boqvist/Anderson/Merkley can out produce him. His physical side is a plus, but that’s all but gone away this season.

That’s understandable. I would be willing to part with Vancouver’s pick, but I’d want to keep Arizona’s, unless NJ wins the lottery.

Cap Floor Means Spending
This all just looks like spending money because they can. Too long and too much money for Vlad and Edmundson, and judging from this year that Barrie signing will give NJ another version of an under performing Subban.
Haula could fit in the bottom 6, so that’s alright.
If they are going to spend, they should do it on more impactful players like Granlund and Dillon. They will have to pay more for those guys, obviously, but there’s more than enough cap to do so.
Sevo will fetch more than that, and Zacha could be packaged to get another younger D man with term.

I can see where he’s coming from setting up lines from a production stand point, but I agree it’s misguided. Mueller on the top pair is probably because he has the most NHL experience. But again, he shouldn’t be there in the first place.
Lines aside, spending $12mil on one Dman with the holes on this team is the biggest issue. That alone can fetch two solid top 4 guys (preferably both on the left side).

Draft 2020
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Duggysdanglers</b></div><div>As this draft scenario plays out , I’d still take Raymond at #6. Need a skilled winger for Jack Hughes especially if Drysdale is gone by then. And JD will go in the top 5 for sure.
I like Jake Sanderson with their #10 pick. That’s a steal IMO. If the season had not been canceled and he got more viewings at U-18’s and the combine then JS might have even been rated higher. NHL bloodlines helps a lot.</div></div>
I like the idea for a winger for Hughes and wouldn’t be opposed to Raymond, I would just go BPA. To me, that would be Rossi. The two players I’m highest on are Sanderson and Quinn. Quinn has an incredible release and good hands, but sadly, I don’t see NJ acquiring both.

I keep seeing Mueller resigned in AGMs. He’s a dumpster fire of an NHL defenseman and rarely uses his big frame the way he should. If that’s the price tag on him, let another team give it to him and collect a 3rd next year from an offer sheet

As a NJ fan, Holtz and Drysdale already gone at 6, I go Rossi and Sanderson at 10.
I personally love Sanderson’s game. Great skater, on one one skill, long reach, sees the ice really well, good build for only being 17, and not afraid to get physical. I definitely see him being a 2 or 3 Dman down the road.

There isn’t much to trade which is why I think Sergachev is a pipe dream. Would I be mad as a fan if they went the offer sheet route? Not necessarily, but I wouldn’t be comfortable having only one pick in the first 3 rounds next year. A possibility of 3 firsts this upcoming draft helps, but only if they hit on all three.

Oh 100% agreed, I’ve been guilty of it myself, but if someone is interested, they will give it a look regardless. I just didn’t see the point in being dickish when he didn’t even give feedback on the initial post. Trust me, I’m not trying to turn this into some comment battle. Myers is an underrated signing. Very much on board, but not willing to give up a 3rd rounder to a division rival when NJ doesn’t even have their own 2nd round pick. Unless, another team wants to sign RFA Mueller (who, admittedly, is a dumpster fire of a D man) for the same price. Thus, recouping the 3rd rounder.
I’m not fond of Zacha half the time, but I hold a grudge since I was rooting for the Devs to draft Barzal or Rantanen at the time (hind sight... blah blah... whatever), but he is a very serviceable 3rd line playmaker/2 way guy who can PK as well. I would be willing to move McLeod, Wood, and Senn for Dzingle, Nedeljkovic, and a 4th or 5th if Carolina is interested, and calling up Bastian.

Devils 20-21 Roster prediction
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>zyyyp</b></div><div>hahah, appreciate the feedback my man. I feel like we're not in a position to add multiple big name FA's, still rebuilding and have a fair ways to go!
a weaker blue line helping us get another relatively high pick wouldn't be the worst thing for us. as for the Wood trade, I feel like he's overvalued by teams because of his physicality and his bite, can have a scoring touch at times and has 2 years left so felt like a late 2nd would be okay but you're right it's wishful thinking. mainly just wanted to get a 2020 2nd back and we don't have a whole lot to sell off. I wanted Palmieri gone at the last deadline! going to get far less value for him next season.</div></div>
I agree that NJ fans want to get the most out of assets while their value is as high as it can get (Wood about 2 months ago and Palms), and a 2nd round pick is a bit of wishful thinking. As a fellow Devils fan I wonder what you would think of my hypothetical here: <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1690196">https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1690196</a>
Palms seems like a solid locker room/on ice guy. Trading him at the deadline for assets seems like a great idea while his value is high, but he is a leader for a young Devils team. Keeping him, and possibly resigning him, only benefits the progression of younger players.
I would hope the front office pays (or overpays) D men with certain D men capable of playing top 4 minutes to make up for PK’s turnover friendly game and/or bottom 4 pairing guys to let Smith and Butch develop their offensive side while sheltering their minutes.
Khudobin is a nice signing, but maybe a bit too much money for a back up if they really believe in Big Mac as a starter.
But I’m glad we both agree on NOT resigning Mueller.
