Ottawa needs space doesn't make sense to trade for a guy with a higher cap hit
Joseph will probably cost near a 1st to dump. So Laughton is pretty much being traded for a 4th.

It's not a huge difference. This also just sounds like someone who just looks at charts and doesn't watch them play. Tage is also a better goal scorer. They are close.

It's focusing on the the biggest part of value. Why do you think a vezina winner went for free? A salary cap exists. These guys are also out of their prime. Value is about future not what they did the season before. Do you think columbus would trade Fantili for Stamkos?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mv21227</b></div><div>Pettersson is miles better defensively. Tage is awful in his own zone, Pettersson is elite. So yes, Tage isn’t on Pettersson’s level
Eichel’s return was not better than Tkachuk’s. Tkachuk returned a 115 point winger, a top pairing dman, an 3rd round prospect, and a 1st. Eichel returned a solid prospect, a top 6 winger, a 1st, and a 2nd</div></div>
Tage is also elite and a better goal scorer than petey. Tage also isn't awful in his own zone. Sound like someone that just looks at charts. He plays a decent amount on the PK. Pretty good stickwork. That line is just plays a high risk game because that's what they're coach to do. They'd rather have them score a ton and give some up. Just because someone is better defensively doesn't make someone on another level.
You realize both were 30 and FAs the next year right? Most people are taking Tuch & Krebs in their early 20s at 5.5M for another 4 years instead of Huberdeau + Weegar at 16.75M in their 30s for another 8 years. I swear people on here just don't understand the value of contracts & cap space.

Petey would get more than Eichel. He’s a better player than Eichel and doesn’t need career threatening neck surgery. You’d be looking at the value of the Tkachuk trade minimum</div></div>"
Thompson is around the same level. This is goofy.
Tage 162 points (85 goals) in 156 games last 2 seasons
Petey 170 points (71 goals) in 160 games last 2 seasons
Just because the guy got some 3rd-6th place Selke votes for the first time doesn't make him on a different level than Tage. Tage is also on an extremely good contract. Petey would be making 3M+ more with his new deal.
Eichel got a better return than Tkachuk? Like Krebs + Tuch is better than 2 30 year old rentals that needed huge contracts.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juiceman</b></div><div>You're right, asking for a player of similar caliber is absolutely outrageous. How dare the Canucks ask for a team's top player when trading their top player!
The return will be much bigger than Eichel because a) Pettersson is objectively a far better player than Eichel was. Eichel never had a 100 point season being top 10 in Selke votes. and b) Pettersson doesn't have a career threatning neck injury and a terrible relationship with the organization fueling drama and controversy</div></div>
Why do you completely ignore the context lmao? Petey would be asking out because your team is trash again. He would be refusing to sign a contract with the team. You don't get a player of the same caliber back in that scenario. You don't get rewarded for screwing up the early career of your star player.
Don't forget the biggest part. Eichel was already signed. Petey isn't.

Eichel got a more valuable package than Tkachuk. Tkachuk got 2 30 year old rentals that needed a big contract. Eichel got a valuable prospect + a very promising 24 year old signed with term.

and all the guy you mentioned were also not traded in the offseason?
so like do you disagree that players are worth more at the deadline? do you think they are worth more now?
are you saying team were fighting right now to get a bottom 6 dman and that why he was traded for a 4th but at the deadline teams wont want bottom 6th dman so they offer will 6th max? is your whole point that ''there is no guaranteed''?</div></div>
Because Klingberg didn't get a great return at the deadline like people thought he would? His value tanked playing on a bad team. Idk how you missed the point that bad.
I said he was worth probably a 6th rounder and you said guys are worth more at the deadline "in case you don't follow trades".
He's a bottom pair d man who is going to be playing little minutes on a a bad team. He won't be worth that much.

Klingberg was never traded for to begin with, cant really ''flip him for more'' if you didnt trade for him at the starts.</div></div>
People thought Klingberg would easily fetch a 1st at the deadline. You can just look at the forum on the singing. He didn't even come close to that. Guys aren't guaranteed to get more at the deadline.
Boosh is a bottom pair d man who will be playing 15-16 minutes on a bad team. You want some comparisons at the deadline mr i follow trades?
Robert Hagg for a 6th
Jordie Benn for a 6th
Michael Del Zotto for a 6th

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stadel</b></div><div>"A 3rd liner is part of the core? Where are you expecting Benson, Savoie, and Kulich to play? You're just not making any sense." Idk why thats so controversial, good 3rd line forwards are regularly part of teams cores. I expect Benson to take Skinner's spot once age catches up to him. Savoie is a bust. Kulich will likely round out the top 9 taking Greenway's spot.
"He's signed his 1C, 2C, and top pair d man & partner to Dahlin to long term deals. That means he's signing everyone to long term deals now?" Anyone they are fully invested in yeah. Why would he give Samuelsson term but not mittelstadt? Samuelsson's numbers (from a negotiating position) arent even that good. He had no leverage, but Adams was willing to commit anyways. If he likes they player, hell keep him long term. Again, not all that controversial
"Where else is he gonna be playing? Are you gonna be giving a major raise to a guy on the 3rd line? You've said like multiple guys will be getting top 6 minutes lmao. You're not gonna have a guy on the 3rd line making 6M. Adams will just trade him if he wants that much." I actually said Quinn and Peterka, two guys you left out of this convo fyi, will get top six minutes. And again, its not all that uncommon for a 3rd liner teams are high on to get long term commitment. Keep in mind, this is 6 million at a 92 million dollar salary cap.
"Young goalies never play 50+ games their first few seasons. Insane to expect a guy to have that kind of workload his first year." Fully agree, which is why they wont make the playoffs next year.
"It doesn't really seem like you do. Rask & Tim Thomas split a lot of time his first few years. It's a good way that Levi doesn't get forced to have an insane workload. They can split the amount of games they play. If Levi struggles he isn't forced to play for the Sabres to have a chance." No I promise you I understand what you are saying, I just dont agree with any of it lmao nor do I think the Sabres will trade for Gibson. Let's face it, it's trending that way (the Sabres not adding a goalie).</div></div>
Because your 3rd line / 4th line / bottom pair d men are a revolving door on good teams. The core is your top players. Paying 3rd liners big contracts is how you get in cap hell. That's what Tampa did with Tyler Johnson. They avoided that mistake again and moved JT Miller when they realize they didn't have a spot in the top 6 for him. Adams is smart. He's not going to pay a guy big money to play 15-16 minutes a game.
"Savoie is a bust" Ok thanks for self identifying yourself as clueless. I don't have to waste my time anymore.
"Why would he give Samuelsson term but not mittelstadt?" You literally read out why lmao. He's Dahlin's partner. They envision him being on the top pair with him.
"I actually said Quinn and Peterka, two guys you left out of this convo fyi, will get top six minutes." Yes and Cozens, Tage, Tuch, Skinner who will obviously still be getting top 6 minutes.
"this is 6 million at a 92 million dollar salary cap. " LMAO so Gibson's contract wouldn't be that big of a deal anyways?
"Fully agree, which is why they wont make the playoffs next year." They were a few points away last year. I don't see why they couldn't. Levi just won't be getting an insane amount of games.

Theyd have to trade him in that scenario (which they should explore for sure)
Why is Levi only playing 30-40 games? If he's as good as everyone says he is, he will play more than Gibson, a goalie with a sub 900 save percentage? Like I get the gibson idea, its good shelter for him in his rookie year, but beyond that who would you rather invest in, him or Levi? its a no brainer.</div></div>
