Arbitration was player elected, so they only needed one. But it has been a multiple days since it was resolved. So the window is now closed (most likely)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>bhavikp27</b></div><div>No you can't. You need to wait at least one year. Also, PIT doesn't have a second buyout window. Most importantly, if you sign Erik Gudbranson, it already tells us you don't wanna win</div></div>
Aston-Reese filed for arbitration. Their second buyout window is open, but being a team that has never used a buyout/compliance buyout it is highly unlikely they use it.
And it wouldn't make sense to buyout Gudbranson for 1.25mil cap relief this year and then lose an additional .25mil in cap next year (total cap hit for buyout and contract would be 4.25mil)

Retain on Johnson for another team to buyout
The biggest cap hit happens in year 4 and that takes the spot of a replacement level player. Realistically theres maybe 3 years before the wheels fall off. You lose a goalie you may lose on waivers anyway and a 2nd (or 1st) round pick that may not make an impact for another 3-4 years. If you want to win now, you may have to burn yourself in the future.
I'm just laying out another scenario. Is it ideal? Not really. But there's no ideal fix other than a mutual contract termination, which won't happen.

It'd be nice if people read the description instead of just looking at the trades

Toronto gave up a first for a $6.25mil buyout. $4mil buyout costs a 1st too?

Pretty sure that if he waives his NMC, the team that he is traded to has the option of keeping it in place or not. NTCs are that way, not 100% on NMC.

Has a trade like this even been done
The Caps traded Orpik to the Avs so they could buy him out and Orpik could re-sign in Washington for cheaper.
The NHL wasn't a fan of it and warned both teams.

They dont want to move Stone but may be forced to if he threatens to sign an offer sheet. He could sign 1 year/$4mil somewhere and the Sens get a 2nd round pick for compensation.

Chucky for Domi?
I would rather have Galchenyuk on my team but they are both 2nd and 3rd line players. It's not so lopsided that Montreal is trading a 1st line center for a 3rd line wing; that's what some people thought Galchenyuk could be, a first line center.

How so? The Penguins aren't re-signing Brassard. They're trading away a late 1st round pick. You are replacing Sprong with Tkachuk. Sheary doesn't make sense to keep if he is playing in the bottom six.

Rutherford brought Brassard in to play with Kessel on the 3rd line. If you want your 3rd line to be a 3rd scoring line, no Sheahan wasn't a perfect fit. That's not how my team is configured.

Scoring help
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tulrich</b></div><div>Nitpicking here but Sheahan's qualifying offer would be $2.075M. I think JvR would probably cost the same as Horny ($5.3M) and I'd rather ship out Hunwick and see if I can hang onto one of Sheary or Hags but overall, pretty good roster!</div></div>
I initially had JvR the same as Hornqvist, but Kane signing at $7mil kind of threw a wrench into that so I bumped him up a bit.
I'd like to have Hagelin added to the bottom 6, but his cap hit is just too high for what he is. Rust is essentially the same player.
We signed Hunwick after he had an above average year and last year he brought his numbers back to baseline. It really wasn't that bad of a season and I expect he will have a solid year, even if it turns out to be spot duty.

Kessel
Arizona won't trade their 5th overall. Kessel won't waive his NTC to play in Arizona. Penguins don't need prospects. Coyotes are trading Max Domi for Andersson, Bennett, and Dube while keeping draft picks and keeping enough salary to stay at the Cap Floor.

If Kessel leaves...
Why spend $3mil on a backup goalie when you can have one for $1.5mil or less?
Pens are full of RWs: Sprong, Hornqvist, Rust, ZAR. that's one reason why they would move Kessel, to make room for Sprong.

Just because you trade a player for a pick doesn't make it a "cap dump."
A 2nd is a little high for Kassian, sure, but it isn't that far off especially if it turns out to be a late 2nd assuming the Oilers make a playoff run.

For me, it's a chance to sell high on Maatta after he had a really good year last year, but with Letang, Dumo, Schultz, and Brodie, the top 4 is full already and $4.6M is a lot for a bottom pair guy when you have other NHL ready options.</div></div>
Middle ground....trade him between December and Trade Deadline when someone has a top4 get hurt and panicks ro make the playoffs
