With the NHL's new transfer agreement with the Swiss National Leagues:
a) Does this mean all Swiss players drafted from 2020 onwards are now in the 4-year rights exclusivity camp, or is that TBD until we find out more details about the transfer agreement?
b) Is this retroactive to Swiss players already drafted? I suspect not, given how many random Russian players still exist on teams' reserve lists from previous CBAs and transfer agreements.

(BUF/PIT) - Rodrigues, Sheary for Kahun
Sheary and Rodrigues appear to be decent depth players, even coming from a team as meh as the Sabres. frankly, this team needed some competent bums to play in their bottom-6, and having them around to help shore up the 3rd and 4th lines isn't bad. this gets Sam Lafferty and Anthony Angello off the roster and back to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, anyway; Mike Sullivan clearly didn't trust them to play many minutes.
I kinda liked Dominik Kahun myself, but you have to give to get, and I find it hard to imagine that Jason Botterill's stupid enough to give up Sheary and Rodrigues for a bag of magic beans.

the modified NTC was likely to lower the per-annum cost of the contract. and it's only an 8-team no-trade; that's not <strong>that</strong> restrictive.

i think it's fiiiiine.
the $3.5M - $4.5M range is what most teams appear to be giving mid-tier defenders, outside of the ones that have weird and wonky cap situations (and you can argue, for those defenders that <em>are</em> getting underpaid, that it's frankly unfair to them to be so, from a labor perspective). good on Pettersson for getting his money, and good on the Penguins for making a decent bet on a 24-year-old who at least hasn't peaked out on his aging curve yet.

(PIT/DAL) - Palve for Nyberg
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Yojimbo</b></div><div>Yeah, I believe that Bill Guerin was the GM of WBS while he was assistant GM for Pittsburgh, before moving to the Wild...
It's just the added depth of the trades with if the guy is good enough for another AHL team to want, how does the original parent NHL team "feel" about it? Is he a call up option being moved for someone that we will never call up? I just think that there might be more discussion put into a trade like this than many NHL-level player trades.</div></div>it's probably the same amount of discussion, just aimed at a different section of the organization. With the level of the players we're talking about in this particular trade, I think the only reason the parent NHL club even got involved was because the players involved were signed to NHL contracts, and, even then, it was probably more of a bureaucratic "hey, sign off on this, pl0xkthxbye" type of conversation.
Mike Vellucci is HC and GM of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He sees that Oula Palve isn't really panning out for his team the way he'd have hoped. At the same time, he's not too happy with his defensive depth. He's had injury issues on defense; Pierre-Olivier Joseph missed a good amount of this season with injuries, I think, so the defense is a bunch of vets (David Warsofsky, Zach Trotman, Kevin Czuczman) and a few other young guys (Niclas Almari, Matt Abt, and Jon Lizotte). The W-B/S Penguins and the Texas Stars were playing a series last week, and so Vellucci probably talked to Scott White, GM of the Texas Stars, and said, "hey, whaddya think about a trade?" like most GMs do. they talked it over, agreed to something, and then each GM contacted the GM of the NHL parent club and got the go-ahead.

Did the Penguins contact the Stars saying that they needed some AHL D depth and the Stars had a lot, so what do you want for who? Did the Stars want some AHL F depth and contacted the Penguins?</div></div>I'd presume this sort of thing happens more at the AHL level. The WB/S Penguins and the Texas Stars presumably have GMs that aren't Jim Rutherford and Jim Nill, respectively. They, too, obviously make trades. This probably explains NHL trades of "random guy for 'Future Considerations'"; the guy going the other way is likely on an AHL contract, so they obviously don't pop up in NHL player contract databases.

(NJD/ARI) - Hall, Speers for Bahl, Merkley, Schnarr, 1sr round pick, conditional 3rd round pick
I'm personally surprised that Chayka didn't have to give up Ivan Prosvetov. He clearly looked like the best prospect of the bunch (he's had 8 starts and a .944 for Tucson, vs. 12 starts and a .907 for Adin Hill), and, given the Devils'... struggles with goaltending, he'd have been a good get.
We know Hayton, Söderström, and Jeník were off the table to begin with; the only other real good prospects available were Brayden Burke, Lane Pederson, and Kyle Capobianco. If Shero wanted longer-term prospects, I suppose he could have looked at Mattias Maccelli, Aku Räty, John Farinacci, or Ty Emberson, as well.

How is Alexandre Texier considered exempt from the Seattle expansion draft? He should have already accrued at least 2 seasons of professional experience because he played 10 NHL games during his age 19 season (2018-19), unless "NHL games" is only defined as regular season and not regular season + playoffs (which is weird, because the CBA defines "NHL Games" as regular season + playoffs).

(CHI/DET) - Perlini for Regula
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockeyplayer1</b></div><div>While I agree with this statement there are other aspects that show his defensive play. I'm sure there are going to be some people on here that berate me for using "an old useless stat" but he has been top 2 on his team in +/- every year hes been in the OHL. He has improved each year in this department and is a +14 through 10 games this year. On top of that his ice time has gone up each year and he is playing against other teams top lines. He is still fairly young too, having an August birthday.
I'm not out here saying this kids all the real deal but he has shown improvements year over year. He is one of the few defenseman in the OHL that can and is willing to play both sides of the puck. Not to mention he's a BIG boy. He is something the Blackhawks have NONE of.</div></div>Well, tbh, trying to read boxcar stats for defenders is difficult to begin with, and, frankly, the OHL's website only lists so much in terms of stats. I would hesitate to make any definitive conclusions about a junior player based on what stats the OHL publicly provides. (As an aside, many of the European leagues do list advanced stats like Corsi, etc. on their websites, which is more helpful for evaluating players if you're, for example, a busy adult with many important things to do that aren't "watch hockey tape all day".)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>krakowitz</b></div><div>A healthy Nick Schmaltz to start the year has been huge for the Coyotes. There's a clear vision for how Chayka and Tocchet want this team to play, and Chayka has moved out a lot of the guys who he didn't personally acquire to get that. Schmaltz is a great fit playing either center or wing for the Yotes and he's been very productive offensively to start. Strome was never going to do that in Arizona. Both teams are happy with this deal</div></div>indeed. he had a slow start, but Tocchet said he was shaking off the rust, and he appears to have shaken it off pretty quickly.
I also like that things are starting to fall into place for the Coyotes: the power play, Tocchet's system, getting shots on goal, etc. yesterday's game against the Preds was great in terms of the Coyotes continuing to put shots on goal, even after being up in goals.
