<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PuckLuck_77</b></div><div>For Oiler's fan's benefits, I'm going to make a simple scale to show how far off this is.

Let's take a scale from -10 to 10, where anything in the negatives is an overall negative value to the team, and anything positive is an overall positive value to the team.

I'll give 1st round picks in the top 10 a score of 7. They are generally guaranteed NHL players, generally in the top-6, in rare cases the top 3, but there is still some risk, along with the time that will need to be put into the prospect. So pick #8 gets a 7.

Pesce, a bon-a-fide shut-down defenseman gets an 8. He can play top line minutes on nearly any team, is 24 with significant NHL experience and on a team-friendly contract for a long time, but will require a protection slot at the expansion draft, which is why he doesn't get a 9. 10's saved for players like Drew Doughty, Connor McDavid, Sydney Crosby, Auston Mathews, etc.

Now, let's look at Lucic. He's a fourth line player on any team in the NHL now. He's getting paid 4-5mil more than what a player should be getting paid on a bottom line. He requires protection at the draft, at the cost of a younger player. He is the model of the "old-NHL" and can't keep up with the "modern NHL". And to top it all off, he's perfectly healthy so there's no LTIR path out, AND he's got a NMC. He is the very definition of negative value to a team. -8 is the score I give him. Not -10 because he can still provide a physical presence to protect younger players on the team.

Add them together. (-8) + 7 = -1
Pesce = 8

You're still another first round pick in the top 10 before even being close to Carolina not just straight hanging up the phone on you. Even if you fudge the numbers 1-2 in either direction, it's STILL off by a country mile.</div></div>

I updated traded, better? Carolina would be part of 3 way trade, so they trade Lucic to whoever he accepts trade to. They don't keep him as I don't think Lucic wants to play there.
