Realistic Deadline
Makes sense. With Boston's cap, seems like they are in a decent spot with all of their salaries. Didn't know if they are looking to add something bigger at the deadline.

Hey, Cam. I know you live near the beach and can golf in flip flops everyday. How about you agree to a trade to beautiful and sunny...Ottawa?
I wonder if you take out Duchene, what a trade for Karlsson looks like and getting Bobby back. Fowler, Ritchie and two firsts?
Although, I really, really want to see your fourth line in a game (even if none of them win a faceoff).

2018 Ducks Offseason JVR!
Getzlaf just had 61 points in 56 games. He's still the Ducks best player and I wouldn't take Schenn straight up for Getz.
Don't think anyone gives a pick for Eaves until he's healthy and even then, very doubtful.
Someone's going to overpay Maroon, but shouldn't be the Ducks.
And yeah, you forgot to pay Montour. Probably 2-3 years at $2-$3M/per.

I would be more interested in Ho Sang because of his speed. Not sure how overblown the "attitude" issues are, but he would be a player I would be interested in and could use a change from NYI.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jhook1</b></div><div>understandable, why not trade him to the Isles for Dal-Cole and a third?</div></div>
Because with Dal Colle, you are probably getting something similar to Ritchie anyway. A Top 10 pick from the 2014 draft who is underwhelming their lofty pre-draft expectations. Ducks need younger talent in the pipeline. Not saying Dal Colle can't turn things around, but Ducks swapping out Ritchie for another non-speedster project doesn't really help nor fit into the roster.

I think the reason you trade Petterson is exactly because he isn't a top four D. He won't pass up the four ahead of him and the defensemen below him need a shot as well (espcially Laarson). You package him with Ritchie to recoup some value. I don't think realistically Ritchie gets moved either, but if Murray really wants to get faster and more disciplined, he has to move on from one of the slower players who takes bad penalties. With Eaves coming back and Terry in line for some playing time, moving Ritchie helps with the cap to get some younger players in like Jones. There just isn't enough forward spots keeping Ritchie. I think Brown is the 4th line player the Ducks need. Not Ritchie.

He's 24 and coming off of his ELC ($925K). He has almost no bargaining power. If you look at almost every RFA negotiation with Murray, it will be much less. There is no reason to give him that much. It might be an unfair system, but no reason for Murray to give him that much for no reason.
You might want to figure out which arm you can live without.

If you look back at Murray's RFA's, he definitely plays hard ball with them. Rakell was an all-star last year and only makes $3.789M. Hampus is only making $5.25M.
He's going to be under $4M for sure unless he signs like a 6-8 year extension and even then he isn't going to be close to $5M. Most likely gets the Sami Vatanen show me contract for a year or two.
Ritchie doesn't have great value right now, but packaging him and Petterson together helps recoup a 2nd and 3rd. Too many forwards and too many young defensemen so there is a logjam at both. Petterson is redundant with Laarson, Welenski, Mahura and Megna waiting. Plus Petterson is never going to be above Hampus, Manson, Fowler or Montour so might as well get a pick now.

Kerdiles won't get more than $1M if he is tendered at all. Hasn't been healthy in a long time. $2.25M is insane for him.
Cogs won't be down the middle.
And Miller definitely stays. I think Berra is done so if Gibson goes down for any extended time, you really don't want to run Boyle and a 3rd string AHL or Eriksson Ek too early.

And then next year, you have Bieksa's $4M, Vermette's $1.75M and Bolls $900K coming off the books.
Bieksa's money goes to Manson.
Vermette plus Fowler's salary goes to Cam's extension.
Montour, Ritchie and Kase get a slight bump.
I'd resign Cogs, but don't think he could get a raise. I love the guy, but would give term, NTC in exchange for lower salary. Maybe 4-5 years at $2.5M?

Despres is the cap relief
I agree. I really want to see Etem get some minutes with an actual playmaker like Rakell. Etem keeps moving around and I feel like he needs a few games to find his game and not be playing 6 minutes a night with Boll. Etem and Rakell played pretty well together with Sekac a few years back and Rakell has only progressed.
I'd much rather see something like:
Ritchie / Getz / Perry
Cogs / Kesler / Silf
Cramrossa / Rakell / Etem
Garbutt / Vermette / Wagner
With that lineup, I think you are stronger across all four lines and the Rakell line has a lot of speed to get in on the forecheck, cause some disruptions and score some goals.

Ducks 2016
Theodore played really well when he was called up for his first season in the NHL. In the playoffs yes, he struggled, but I don't actually think Larsson outplayed him during training camp or that Larsson would be more reliable over the course of the year. I think Theodore was going to start the year with the Gulls anyway so they went ahead and moved him down.
Larsson is going back to Sweden as soon as Lindholm is signed. They didn't want to send him back so soon since Theo could ride the bus back, but once Larsson is cut, he's gone for the year.

Confused Duck Fan
They sent Theo and Montour down because Larsson has played well so far in training camp. I think its more likely that Theo and Montour were going down to the minors anyway while there is a logjam at defense. If Larsson doesn't make the team, he is going back to Sweden not the AHL so they are probably just hanging on to him for now in case the Lindholm situation isn't figured out soon. I think Theo is better than Larsson, but Theo can come right back if needed; Larsson will (most likely) be in Sweden the rest of the year.

You are better off just sending Fowler for a 3rd than trying to move Stoner with Theodore. Theodore may be the best defensmen not named Lindholm the Ducks currently control. To throw him away just to move Stoner is ludicrous. If Murray did that, I can guarantee the Samuelis would fire him on the spot.

Let's hope so. Ducks need to shed some salary ASAP. Murray waited too long. I like Despres and would have like to keep him, but too many defensemen and Theodore is too good to be in San Diego. Lindholm and Rakell need to be signed now.

All those teams will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
Ducks don't keep Streit. They move him to the Devils for less than market value. Devils will take him because they can easily swap him at the deadline for a 2nd or more as a rental since he will be a UFA.
Devils take Stoner because they need defensemen and again, pay basically nothing to get him.
And yes, Flyers probably don't do that deal, but didn't know how much being able to move Streit now would be worth to them.

Ducks won't spend that much salary and these moves are mostly lateral at best and bad for the Ducks. (Rakell will probably get a bridge deal. Don't think he will make more than Silf when they both only have one, 20 goal season each).
Bernier for Niemi is basically a wash. Bernier's cap his is $4M, but only owed $2M in cash so technically "cheaper" than Niemi. Then that leaves Fowler for Roussel and a 2nd? That is horrible value for Fowler. Also, I hate Roussel.
Manson is super underrated and cheap so moving him with Stoner and a pick for Pouliot makes no sense.
And if Vermette is your 2nd line center, you are asking for trouble.

Done deal then. In the that scenario, Rakell is signed for $2M bridge contract. He has one, 20 goal season and spent time on the first line with the twins. The bridge deal will be to show he can continue his growth and (hopefully) center another scoring line.
Lindholm gets $5M for 4 years. Maybe a little lower than what some people are projecting, but he is still an RFA. Unless he wants to sign for 7-8 years, I don't think he gets much more than $5M (again, hopefully). I could even see a scenario where he goes for $4M for one or two years.

That's hockey, man. That's salary caps and free agency. Will Getz be worth $8.6M in 4 years? Will Toews be worth $10.5M when he's 35? Are the Sedins worth $7M? Every team has 3 or 4 guys they are overpaying long term to get production now. That's life.
