I have watch him play the last 5 years. he struggles with a lot. Plays well a few games, then back to reality.

Illinois and California taxes are pretty close. Like a .5% or in that ballpark. So I dont think that is a huge issue. besides, a majority of his contract is already paid. His actually salary for the year is 6.8. not 10.5. And who wouldnt want to be in California in January and February?

hard to do that when you have Martinez and Theodore taking that top 4 ice time.

Ducks keep on going
I like some of the ideas. I agree to not sign Strome, even if its the intention to trade him at the deadline. Versus signing Strome and Burakovsky, I would just sign Forsberg for $8+, that will get us to the floor and leaves a spot for someone else. I really feel Forsberg fits in with this team and on a line with Z or McTavish.
In this scenario, we get Shane Wright. I think you move him to wing and you form a #1 line with Milano - Zegras - Terry. Second Line would be Wright - McTavish - Forsberg. That would be really really nice top 2 for a long time. Puts the rebuild in fast forward quick.

Ducks with a huge no on that one. Bowers hasnt sniffed the NHL and has to be resigned. essentially thats Lehkonen (needs to be resigned) and a first for Gibson and Comtois.

He is signed for 1 more year at $6 mil. Based on that, could be a good call to get a 4-5 years in the $6.5-7 range. he doesnt set the world on fire in terms of production though. He hasnt cracked 30 points since his contract. Injuries aside. (he hasnt played a full season either. So there is a "injury" concern there.

Early Offseason ideas
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Salzy</b></div><div>The vibe I’ve gotten from CGY is that they may keep Monahan, obviously I’d rather him over Looch but I think the latter is more realistic
Bear really does seem like a great fit for us though, both short and potentially long term
I just see Nuke as the perfect compliment to Z and Terry I’d love to have him even if it is a bigger deal than he may be worth.
That’s all I was trying to do here, toy around with some different ideas once the playoffs are done I’m going to take a crack at a more predictive offseason for us. There are so many potential avenues this team can go down this offseason</div></div>
Completely agree. We can push to sneak in the playoffs with this team. That is something to look at. If not, we would be a year away with a ton of draft capital.

Early Offseason ideas
Instead of Lucic, I would love to get Monahan. If he can bounce back from his injury, I think he would be a great add for 2nd center and ease McTavish into that role. However, I like lucic in the role of Des and he can still skate well.
I really would like the ducks to go after Bear. He would be perfect for what we are looking for on the right side and with his age.
The addition of Nichushkin is ok. He is for sure driving up his cost. But instead of trading Comtois and signing Nichushkin, hold the trade and sign Forsberg and have him play on the wing with McTavish. That would be my dream. Then find a trade for Shatty.
But, I have to say, I like what you did here. Got me thinking of the possibility. Could push for a playoff spot with this team like Kings did last year.

playing with an idea

The reason it was going nowhere is the fact that Bob Murray was a terrible GM when it came to rebuilds and holding onto "his guys" (Lindholm, Manson and Rakell). With what Verbeek did the few months he has been here has sped up the rebuild a lot faster than we think.
If that trade for Gibson was offered, I think they do it for Foote and Boqvist (even though you need to resign him). Tatar still has some skill and would be fine, but he is a cap dump with just the one year remaining.. Blackwood would block Dostal for this year as a backup. But is a throw in just cause.

Though I love this team you put together. Pasta would get in the $9mil range next year. Then you have Zegras, Drysdale and Terry all becoming FA at the same time. We wont have the cap space to get everyone in. even if we shed $10 mil off the books. But that first line looks saucy!!

In theory, Monahan is the better player for sure. However, he isnt a cheap player to take on especially with the last 2+ years of not producing. Especially if the Flames need cap space to sign everyone in the offseason and have wiggle room. But I would take Monahan on the Ducks. He can help solidify the #2 center role and shift to wing if and when McTavish is ready to take on full time next season. And if he isnt, then you have a quality center in place already.

Me personally, I would ask for Karlsson and no picks. But I know that would never happen. But realistically, it would be Reilly Smith coming this way due to the MNTC Dadonov has. (if this trade ever happened.)

In technical terms he does. the $5 mill from Dadonov comes off the books. Then placing Kesler on LTIR would provide them his full $6.8 mil in "cap Space" (think of the Kucherov method TB did last year). So in theory, it would relieve $11 mil. Something like that. (that is my understanding)
