Detroit Red Wings signed Jake Walman (3 Years / $3,400,000 AAV)

Walman is a big reason as to why Seider is playing great right now.

If Walman can keep up his current play this contract is a steal like no other. Walman and Seider complements each other so much that they've been one of the most statistically elite pairings this year. If anyone hasnt watched Red Wings this year this may look steep but he's definitely worth it from this year alone. Let's see if he can keep it up.

Capfriendly, please allow one to calculate a buy out in hindsight.
I want to check how much a Khudobin buyout would cost them had they done it this off season but that possibility is eliminated since capfriendly's tool calculate all buyouts at this point for June 15 2023. Even when I go to the buy out tool itself and change the year to 2022 or 2021 Khudobin's name doesn't exist in the filter. I know it doesn't exist for 2023 since his contract is up then but surely one gotta be able to calculate that for previous years, no?

How Deep Could This Team Go
That trade w Hawks is the worst I've ever seen. Why do Detroit need a soon to be 34 year old UFA Kane and a RD Seth Jones with a contract until he's 35, especially with Seider occupying 1st line RD spot??? This trade would wreck Detroit for the next decade. I'm happy you're not the GM.

Why would u trade Klefbom? He goes straight to LTIR and will probably never play in NHL again, it's a non issue for u guys. And we would much rather keeping Veleno and Lindstrom than getting Yama and a 4th

But there isn't a cap retention though. He's 37 and got 3 more years left. Sharks win this trade.
Edit: but if there is a 50% cap retention I don't see why Sharks would trade him, unless it was for a 1st++

Flyers get Cap Space - DET retains 50 on Bertuzzi
I'd love this. Yzerman doesn't weaponize the cap as much as I'd like to though. He had premium opportunities last year to do it for draft picks but never did and other teams took those picks instead. And I think we taking JvR from Flyers for a steep price is a match made in heaven. We don't have premium extensions to hand out this year and we are not in a position to hand out big bucks to premium players in FA yet so we taking on that 7 mil cap hit would make perfect sense, for a steep price of course.
I love Bertuzzi but his and Detroit's timeline doesn't align.

Bad contract in terms of past production but could end up being a good low cost tandem for Avs. No issues trading the contract either if it doesn't work out.

Red Wings Cap Weaponize
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mikearky</b></div><div>Wings not taking on Murray just to buy him out. It is not this year or next year that hurts it is year3 and 4,when Seider and Vrana need new deals and Murray will eat 2.5 million in cap when the Wings will need money to sign some of their RFA's & UFA's to new contracts</div></div>
Yeah that's fair. I was dubious to the trade myself but it makes sense in any way to me. Detroit will have enough cap to resign everyone they need to resign in year 3 and 4. 2,5 mil is nothing and won't affect the resigns of our top talent. But I get where ur coming from. Had they not traded for Husso it kind of would've made sense without a buyout. Red Wings will have lots of cap still by year 3 and 4 as Hronek won't get 4,4 again and ELC players like Edvinsson, Söderblom, Cossa etc. will still be on their ELC. But it was just a hot take to gain 2 relatively high draft picks.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PredsWingsFan</b></div><div>our response here is 100% why this trade is garbage. Why would Yzerman help them free up 11.5M? There is nothing here for Detroit as you are claiming "a struggling Provorov (who underperform relative to his cap)"... Just insanity how you think this trade is actually decent in anyway for Detroit. I dont see anywhere in Yzerman's history where he has helped out a team so much. Not starting now.</div></div>
You don't think a Provorov for our LD and a 2023 1st is a good addition for Detroit? We got a glaring hole on our LD and there is no capable LD that would be good enough as a 1st LD together with Moritz. Provorov needs a change of scenery and he would get a fresh start in Detroit under Lalonde. We also need to reach the cap floor + JVR's 7 mil is only for this year. The Matt Murray trade & buyout would only last 4 years and our window is 4-5 years from now. The 1st rounder would be unprotected as well. We need to stock pile draft picks and add on our LD. This trade addresses both of these issues.

I agree but unfortunately for them Fletcher is their GM. Considering all their moves this offseason Fletcher consider them being in the hunt for playoffs and may then trade out a struggling Provorov (who underperform relative to his cap) and JVR and get the best player in this trade for 2.375 mil while also freeing up 11,5 mil to use in the free agency. The upcoming season is Fletcher's 4th season with Flyers as he was hired July 11 2019. He won't care about their 1st and may upgrade massively with that cap space freed up. If everything goes as planned and Torts get them under control the pick won't be an issue. If the pick is a high pick Fletcher will be in trouble anyways.

Phili NEEDS to deal JVR and they will have to overpay
A 7 mil cap dump would cost a 2nd in 2023 minimum. So forget a 6th going back. But Flyers doesn't have any so they'll have to trade their 1st and get picks or players back as compensation.

Kane Trade Possibility
1. That's way too much for Kane.
2. No team will pay to get Kane unless it's 50% retained. So he will only cost 5.25 for the next season to the team that trades for him.
3. Rangers won't trade Goodrow or Chytil. They may trade Kaako though since Kane would take his place.
4. 2 1st and a second is too much in terms of picks as well.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mikearky</b></div><div>Like Provorov but can not trade Bertuzzi and do not want JVR</div></div>
Why not trade Bert? He is an expiring FA and I can see him wanting 7-8 years at around 7-8 mil. Dude got 2 x 4.75M after 48 in 71 in 19/20 and 7 in 9 in 20/21. Imagine what he would want now with 62 in 68 in the past season. And why not JVR? He has 1 year left of his 7 mil and it's a good cap dump for us to take on that fills Bert's hole. And it helps us reach the cap floor.
