Khaira is not our best PK guy. He’s maybe 4th.
You’re also completely making up the Heinen trade rumour or Holland is an idiot. I have a lot more confidence in Holland’s GM capability than I do in your insider knowledge.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Oilers were interested in a package of Georgiev and Buchnevich in the summer.

EDM actually going for it
Why would Edmonton trade give up Bouchard, who projects to be Barrie with actual defensive ability for Barrie, who is gone at seasons end and sucks at actually being defensive?
And a first round pick? Common man this is ridiculous

Keep crying bud.
I know you got your pride stripped and got force fed the realization that you're team is going to miss the playoffs but there's no need to take it out on the Oilers.
Also you should know the Oilers are 15-5-2 against the east, so you really cant hide behind "whaaa we're better because they play in the pacific" the oilers would love to play in the Atlantic.

Deep down I know that. But the knee jerk reaction to seeing Vegas and Vancouver loading up while we’re dropping like flies in a battle with them for positioning is to find a way to stop the bleeding.

Why not? He is expiring at the end of this year and the Sens have like $30mil in cap space. You don't even have to take him on your AHL team, just take his contract back and loan him to finish out the year in Bakersfield if you want.
You're getting a pick that moves up two rounds from the one you gave up to get Namestnikov and a young and cheap hard nosed bottom 6 player that is useful to have around for a rebuilding team. I honestly thought that might be a bit of an overpay for him.

That was a "failure" from two GMs ago. The Holland front office shouldn't have any issue at all adding a player that can help us based on swallowing pride and admitting that two GMs/scouting department ago screwed up. So I'm not sure what you're trying to say here.
Gustaffson will/should also be drastically cheaper than Petry?

Playoff Run

Absolutely yes unless you're completely mad.
Barrie is good offensively but pretty bad in his own end at times, basically the anti-Larsson. He also expires in 20 games and the Oilers wont be able to pay him what he wants, even if they could they don't have any need for a second pair right shot offensive D, that's what Bouchard is supposed to be next year at probably 1/8th the price.

It's my understanding that they want someone they can pair with Ekblad who is a right shot D.
So if that's the case Martinez being a left hand shot would be a great fit. And I don't think that they would do the trade for him directly because I think they are kind right at their internal cap.

Tatar trade Thoughts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeterChiarelli</b></div><div>3rd in 2022 that becomes a 2nd if Tatar extends in Edmonton before July 1st 2021?
I think Russell has a similar eastern bias - especially towards Quebec - as a lot of pro-oil Albertans do. He's from a small town that lives and dies via farming and natural gas production, so he's very much been exposed to that mindset. I think he's fine playing in western Canada and in the States, but I think eastern Canada and New York are for sure on his NTC. It's a silly, useless political reason to block a trade, but knowing people from those areas, it wouldnt surprise me.
It you want extra to take back into next season, Khaira can be had for scraps.</div></div>
I would absolutely shocked if his political opinions (which we aren't even sure exist) come into play on where he does and doesn't want to play hockey for 6 months of the year.
I think the only reason he would block trades to the east or USA is because his wife and kids live in Alberta and he wants to be close to them. I highly doubt politics are in play.

Tatar trade Thoughts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>Possibly. Although from what I've gathered about analysts saying "this is the deepest drafts in years". they generally are speaking to the top 20 in the first round and while the difference between the 25th pick and the 40th may not even be that big, the idea of a 1st carries more weight. I could get more bang for my buck if came to you and offered a non lottery protected 1st in 2021 as compared to a 2020 2nd rounder of a team that is currently in the playoffs, right? I know I would be more interested in the 1st.</div></div>
Fair enough, honestly if the Habs would do it for Jesse+2021 first and we get to keep Lavoie I think that might be preferable for us anyway.

Tatar trade Thoughts
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>I_Am_Atem</b></div><div>Umm, no. His market value is set to a 2020 1st + with the recent trades.
We could do a comparable Zucker deal: 2020 1st, Puljujarvi, Manning or Russell (whichever you're willing to part with the most and if Russell waives).</div></div>
I actually kinda disagree, I think if anything the recent trades have showed that you maybe <em>wont<em> get a first for Tatar. Zucker is signed to twice the length and Coleman has 1/5th the cap hit.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>As much as JP and Lavoie are enticing, they got get a 1st rounder more. If it has to be a 2021, so be it, but its got to be a 1st + other good assets.</div></div>
How much higher do they value a 2021 first (with the way the Oilers are trending it would be a late one) vs a 2020 2nd in probably the deepest draft since 2015? I get that the first is prettier on paper but you might be getting a pretty similar quality player and youre getting it a year earlier.</em></em>

That’s fine, Neal seems fine on either side assuming that’s the combination they would use.
The oilers more than any team seem to not generally put much thought into which wing a guy is on, it seems their system is pretty fluid in both ends and wingers cross cross all shift long.
