Gotta look at Kadri trade in hindsight. He had gotten suspended twice in a row in the playoffs which was a huge factor in the leafs losing in 7 against the bruins. They got Barrie who had a hell of a season as well a young Kerfoot for someone who would've stayed their 3C. The trade looks bad now but at the time it somewhat made sense. People like to clown on dubas but compared to some of the gms in the league, dubas is overall a pretty good gm.

Lol dude the leafs arent trading sandin, robertson and niemela plus a 50 point scorer in kerfoot for 1 year of JT miller. Wouldnt pay that for pasta let alone miller.

Originally thought that as well but then thought about it a little more. I think PJ just fits on the third line better than kerfoot does. Signing him 4 years at kerfoot money is risky but it can also turn out to be a huge reward as many signs point to him being nichuskin 2.0. As for kerfy, i think he gets that much easily considering the season he just had.

Marleau was taking up 6 mil in one season compared to mrazeks 3.8x2. Mrazek was also a fine tandem goalie before this season and will most likely rebound considering how goalies work. The value has already been rumoured to be around an abruzzese level prospect so no chance leafs have to pay a 1st to move it. At that point they just buy him out as there's still cap space remaining.

When he was up with the leafs, which wasn't much, sometimes he'd seem great, sometimes not too much. Just like any rookie though. I found he tried shooting too much up with the Leafs. When he returned from injury to the Marlies however, he was amazing. He's got an insane shot as well. Think of him as Caufield LIte.

I will actually be so happy if he breaks out this year. Would solve a huge 2LW gap for us on an elc contract.

Nah you gotta be patient, still only 21 years old. In a more offensive-minded system with hopefully some better linemates, he's gonna breakout.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GeauxPreds1</b></div><div>What’s even more funny is Nashville probably turns it down. Tomasino is gonna be a stud and His first year he was buried on the 4th line with 4 liners for most of the season and still got 32 points. For some reason hynes had a crush on kunin and he played most of his time on the second line. Not this coming up year Tomasino will definitely be in our 6 and I’m guessing 20 goals and close to 50 points his second year pro as a 21 year old. Poile doesn’t have a track record with hitting on forwards in the draft fiala being the only one in awhile so I’d like to keep the one he might of truly hit on</div></div>
People geniunly don't realize how amazing he's gonna be which is why i think its gonna be insanely hard to get a player like that away from nashville.

The leafs have 3 players under contract the year matthews hits free agency. Marner, Tavares and Rielly. There's no way Dubas hasnt though about this. Matthews probably gets extended first thing in 2023 offseason.

Matthews by the end of his contract is 99% gonna make more than mcdavid. Cap goes up, mcdavids contract was signed a long time ago, marner when he was an rfa got offered 13 mil by Columbus. No way there arent teams throwing even 14 mil at matthews. Again though, matthews if he goes to arizona is gonna be the face of hockey there, u cant give chycrun captaincy over him no matter what.

Thoughts on base trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JaredOfLondon</b></div><div>value wise that's a win for the leafs, but it still makes them a worse team. the leafs still need to replace nylander and still need to add all the other things they need. there is no matthews or whoever who can step in and dominate or even be a top 6er out the gate.</div></div>
That depends more on how the Leafs scouting staff sees slafkovsky. Personally, seeing him in the world championships and his other highlights, I think he's absolutely ready to tear up the league in his first year. I expect him to get going faster than wright will. He's also 6'4 225 lbs and adds a lot of physical play in the top 6 that nylander didn't. There's a risk to it, but the reward is pretty high as well.
