I was thinking they might prefer Niemela to Amirov, as they're looking for RHD, but the Leafs have so many winger prospects and very few D so I think they'd probably rather give up the winger

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sens65</b></div><div>$11 million third line centre?</div></div>
I think the idea would be to have 3 lines you play more or less equally, kinda like what Florida does with Marchment-Lundell-Reinhart on the 3rd line. But you could shorten it up if they're down a goal late and run Miller-Tavares-Nylander. If I was the coach I would have a balanced top 9 and just rarely play the 4th line

If you bring in JT Miller-- IMO it's not to play C. Would be a great fit as LW in top 6.</div></div>
Could do Kerfoot at C with Miller/Mikheyev on the wing. Lots of different combos you could play with

Keeping the core with Pietro
I really like this, I was wondering if anyone had some solutions to bringing in Pietro and still having competent depth. I like moving out Kerf and Johnsson, but the one thing I would add is I think it maybe better to move Holl over Engvall. This way you can switch Dermott to the right and give Sandin a spot. It also gives you a bit more breathing room and the ability to spend a little more at 3C.
Also I really like the veteran adds on the 4th line, but I think it's worth noting that even if some of these guys won't sign here, you've still got Malgin, Brooks, Agostino, and Korshkov at <$1M who can slot in.

As someone who watches the Devils, do you think this trade proposal would be worth it for them?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>masterjuddi</b></div><div>Subban is probably the most polarizing player in the NHL. He does make your team better and, at times, is an elite dman. But why does he keep getting traded? Think about dmen he would be compared to as far as production and salary. You dont see those guys getting moved</div></div>
He’s been traded as many times as Gretzky, just some food for thought.
I think in Montreal there had to be some type of rift to result in getting moved for an older, and IMO worse player with a longer contract, but I think from Nashville it was purely because he was the most expensive D-man, and they had Fabbro ready, and they wanted to allocate cap to Duchene because the need for a C was greater than the need for a RHD

Really? I think he'd be the Leafs best Defenceman, and locked up for 3 years at a very reasonable number. They're just giving up a little more than what the Devils gave to get him

All in
I think this may be a little too much to give up for Tanev, but if the leafs were to get him, I think it would make sense to send Ceci the other way. Primarily for cap reasons, and also because I think Holl is probably better than him anyways. Toronto and Vancouver happen to be my 2 favourite teams so I don't think I'm too biased one way or the other, but I think Ceci a 3rd and a middling D prospect would probably be enough for Tanev, he isn't the defender he used to be, and is very injury prone.

I agree with your sentiment on Zaitsev, but based on what a lot of people have been reporting Zaitsev has positive value, Pierre LeBrun said the Hurricanes could have interest in Zaitsev + Kapanen for Pesce/Hamilton/Faulk. Rick Dhaliwal also said the Canucks have interest in him. So i don't know if they see the Zaistev contract as a burden.

Definitely not the best Defence in the world lol. EK65 will probably not sign for less than $10M and I think the reason Ghost was on the block was because they have too much money on Defence and wanna have room for Myers and Sanheim to play bigger minutes, they probably aren't looking to take Petry back. Drouin for Ghost might get it done tho?

$10.5M is the max I could see Mitch making in Toronto, and the only way for that to happen I think is with an offer sheet, because at that point it's 2 1sts 1 2nd 1 3rd, which isn't quite good enough return so it might still be better to overpay him by $1M. But I don't think they should sign anything more than $10M unless they're forced to with an offer sheet.

FINALLY NO MARLEAU
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vmach</b></div><div>welcome to NHL buddy. But one thing I have to agree, is that you shouldn't have had Marleau on the first place, you'd have more help if you would have added someone like Seabrook (or similar), who has 3 cups and knows how to handle pressure and what to tell to his teammates when they get out of control. So the problem with Marleau is not that he is 4th liner, but rather that he is not a clutch player.</div></div>
I agree that they shouldn't have signed Marleau, however Seabrook is probably the only player who is more overpaid in the entire league. I think not having either probably makes the team better going forward

Well, I suppose Dermott might agree to a one year kind of, bet on yourself type deal, but I think that just prolongs an even steeper contract for the future, don't want him to end up like Trouba. Muzzin on the other hand will probably want more term or certainly more money. Keep in mind he's going to be declining now, so he'll either want security for his older years when he's not as good, or a lot of money now, knowing the next time he signs a contract in 2 years, he'll be a worse player than he is now. I think you look at Mike Green when he signed a 3 year $6M deal or just recently 2 year $5.375M as the minimum.

What the Leafs could look like with only internal replacements
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>????. Then if Zaitsev isn't worth his cap hit, no other team wants him, therefore he just can't wished away. Then if he worth close to his cap, the Leafs need to keep him cause they don't have replacements.
For those reasons, IMO Zaitsev won't/can't be moved this summer.</div></div>
Other teams will probably evaluate him differently, the entire league doesn't agree on everyone's value, otherwise trades would never get done. And even so they don't have to trade him for assets, I traded him to Ottawa because they have a lot of cap space and i figured they would rather have Zaitsev than a player who can't play of similar cap hit. Even if that's not enough they could throw in a pick/prospect to get rid of his salary.
Also the leafs still have 3 pretty good defence men without him, I don't think they're hurting that much

What the Leafs could look like with only internal replacements
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>I always think it's ridiculous to trade regular RHD Zaitsev and expect guys like Holl, Borgman and Kivihalme can step in and play big NHL minutes. Leafs have their biggest depth at forward and forward cheap replacements. So why is there reluctance to trade a big cap forward fo prospects/picks or ELCs in order to create cap space.</div></div>
The main purpose of this was to see what the leafs look like without any additions, so I didn't try to acquire any roster players. In other posts I've played around with trading Kapy/Johnsson + for Pesce/Miller. But overall I think you have to consider a players value in relation to his cap hit. IMO Zaitsev isn't much better than a replacement level defender and is not worth his cap hit, where as even though they have a lot of good forwards, I believe they're all worth their cap hit.

Given his comparables I think 3 years at $3M is probably at the upper end of fair, an offer sheet is possible for sure if the leafs let it go to July 1st, but it seems teams tend not to do that. Also just because Edmonton may offer more, Kapanen may not want to play there.
