Filling holes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Grebby14</b></div><div>They wouldn’t be in the same situation. Peterson expires in one year so they could either buy him out and be on the hook for a lot less years or they could bury him for a year then when Drai contract expires they have more cap space to build better team around him and McJesus which could be part of their pitch. They also get a d for this year that would help them on their run.</div></div>
But the Oilers would want that cap space to win now. That’s the point of paying the 1sts. So this is basically paying 2 1sts for cap space they won’t see for 2 more years. Campbells buyout is almost the same Petersen for the first 2 years of the buyout. And even then with the cap expected to go up about 9M by then it’s not worth it.

Well if those assets are Meh for you... then I can't really convince you of the value of this trade.
And that's fine - we are here to agree and disagree, and in this instence, to agree to disagree :)</div></div>
He’s right though. Calgary could get that same value if they just trade Tanev alone with retention themselves. This is basically just Montreal getting the value of taking on a bad contract while also getting rid of their own for next to nothing.

He’s not that bad. Worth 9M? No maybe 7 but unfortunately that’s the contract Holland gave him. Oilers fans just expect every roster player to be McDavid at their respective position.

The Oilers defence is actually above average. They rank 4th in scoring chances against, 3rd in high danger chances against, and 9th in high danger shots against. Unfortunately they rank 30th in SV%, 31st in high danger goals against and 32nd in high danger SV%. They need a goalie that can make a save. I’d pay the price to get either Jake Allen or Carter Hart.

Woodcroft said he’s still considered weeks to week. He’s missed 11ish weeks so far and they were talking about the last time a player suffered the same type of injury when he was first injured and if I remember correctly they said that player missed 14 weeks.

Oilers TDL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>Why not?
Since April 1st 2021, Murray has a 0.926 SV% which is top-5 in the whole NHL (among 82 NHL goalies who played at least 10 games)
Need an even bigger sample size?
Since February 4th 2021, Matt Murray has a 0.913 SV%, which is 23rd (among 82 NHL goalies who played at least 10 games)
Problem with this proposal is it doesn't consider the Oilers cap situation the following 2 years
I sure wish Murray's salary was lower (but not that big of a deal outside of Melnyk's pockets) but Sens don't do this trade.</div></div>
The oilers would have almost 17M in cap space for next season. If they move Kassian and Keith retires ( hopefully) that would put them at 28M.

So say Edmonton offered Lavoie, Savoie, Koskinen and Turris for Murray, JBD and Foresberg who adds or is it fair as is just a good old hockey trade? I’m just wondering if Koskinen and Turris’ negative value compensate for Murray’s value with 2 years left and $15M owed. And does Lavoie and Savoie make up for adding Foresberg and JBD.

It’s not that I’m willing to trade him. But if we were I don’t think you can go wrong with Jarvis and Morrow. If hypothetically Jarvis and Holloway were both available at 14 in 2020 I think Jarvis would be an Oiler and JP would have probably been traded (most likely to Carolina).

I’ve always thought Puljujarvi isn’t the type of winger that fits with McDavid or Draisaitl. If Carolina calls and offers Jarvis and Morrow I’d accept.

I would love to add Paul. Decent 3C not overly offensive but he can PK and let Holloway play out the rest of the year in the AHL. Also not really a fan of adding Bourgault I would prefer to sent Lavoie but Holland has terrible negotiation skills and I bet Ottawa would demand him in return for a 21 year old top 4 RHD prospect that is a lot like Larsson while also taking Barrie.

Two things.
1st. Holland didn’t want to send Broberg and Holloway which was Arizonas asking price.
2nd. He said he’s not moving the 1st for a rental.
JBD was very good in the games he played for Ottawa this year. JBD and Branstrom when paired together were 1 and 2 in xGF, GF and Corsi. If it wasn’t for Ottawas position in the standings and lack of necessity for him right now he would probably still be playing in the NHL likely on the 2nd pair.

If JBD is available ( he definitely shouldn’t be) and I’m the Oilers I’m on the phone right now. Barrie, Foegele, Bourgault, Savoie ( they draft his brother) and a 1st for JBD, Brown and Forsberg.

My Most Wanted Deadline Move
Don’t think you need to give up the 5th. Most mocks have him going for a 4th. The 2nd is more than enough to compensate the retention. I would even argue a 3rd next year and a mid prospect would be enough. Braun is good but he’s not much of an upgrade over Holl if any at all. Only valuable to the leafs cause his cap hit.

It’s funny that you call him an overpaid 3rd pairing LHD cause he closer to an underpaid 2nd pairing LHD. He’s the Dman the Oilers should have targeted in the offseason not Keith, Barrie or Ceci.
